how to unlock Iphone 3gs, modem 05.16.05

my 3gs is not a factory unlock iphone, I bricked my previuos 3gs by flashing the ipad bb, so I went to the apple store to replace it and they replaced the iphone (believe it or not) so I can assure you is not factory unlock.

you said your phone stuck on apple logo after rebooting?
 
@huang...it was, for some reason it was giving me that problem after I rebooted it, so I had to used 'ibooty' everytime I rebooted it. After installing Corona from cydia it fixed the problem.

Sorry. Those steps are a little ambiguous for me. Anything a little more detailed would be appreciated!

To be honest, is very clear the steps he provided, same steps I followed. The iphone is being use by my sister as of now and she's been talking on the phone for hrs and no problem at all.

Your reading comprehension of broken English must be better than mine. I understand starting ireb and putting the phone into DFU mode. After that, detailed step-by-step instructions would be nice; especially for the novice.

By the way, I'm not taking credit on this. I'm just corferming that this method really works, and for those who don't believe this, they should try it first bfore saying it doesn't

I'm pretty sure the 3GS you got replaced was factory unlocked. Apple started selling factory unlocked 3gs phones when the 4S came out.

I've heard stories of people bringing in their 3GS phone to get it replaced (around December 2011), and when they exchanged it with a refurbished one, they are factory unlocked.

For the record, I tried the phone with a tmobile sim card and it didn't read the sim.

Is this what you mean it unlocks? your phone can't be used with T-Mobile or it did not read the T-Mobile sim?

Just to clarified that the gs is not factory unlock

Anyway, once I see the tutorial on how to do it and test it myself. I don't believe it.

Yes, he unlocked it somehow with cydia.:D What does that mean?
A BB that is clearly not unlockable with ultrasnow and he claims he sells them on ebay or CL. Whatever.
Im sure if it was for real he wouldnt be the only one that knows about it and would be all over Dev Teams blogs and other online JB and unlock sites.
And the only one that confirms it is probably him again using another handle that he just made up just to post on this type of topic.
Making that same spelling and grammar mistakes on both user ID's as jcasco16 and huang.
Either way its misleading and fake if he's trying to promote his sale or auction links so I'll be ready to report him.

ok here the easy step an d what u need
1 ireb
2 itunes
3 ipsw 4.1
4 redsn0w0.9.10b1
first run ireb as administrador then phone onDFU mode start itunes shift+ restore ipsw 4.1 let it finish might come up with erro but just ignore it turn off the phone close itunes ,start itunes ,turn phone on DFU mode again ,restore ipsw 4.1 again after finish the phone will reboot, use redsnow to jailbreak, run cydia let it finish dowload, go to search find ultrasnow install it them u are done:)

You can list the step by step tutorial here. I am willing to spend $150 to $170 on Craigslist to buy a 3GS, then update it to 5.0.1 so I can get the baseband to 05.16 in order to try your method of unlock.

Worst case scenario, i can just sell it back on CL.
 
if u need to update to a5.01 then u need to do a costom ipsw with snobreese hope u guys happy with this
