I already had mine from a previous mission setting eyetv up with Plex. That wasn't easy either though. It's basically a hack really.

I will stick with Channels and Emby for recording. This is definitely above my pay grade. Lol

Can I buy the $60 dvr service now and try this
Or only early Kickstarter backers can try this ?

Yes. But Channels DVR Beta is limited so you may want to verify with support@getchannels.com to see if you can get in after you get signed up.

Here is where you sign up for HDHomeRun DVR Beta.
https://www.silicondust.com/shop/

Once you spend the $60 then you need to spend $25 for the Channels App. Only current owners of Channels can be in the Channels DVR Beta. I have started using the Channels DVR Beta and it has limitations based on missing features from the HDHomeRun DVR Beta. But the Channels Beta Software (prior to the DVR) has always been pretty solid for even a normal released product.

Keep in mind that the HDHomeRun DVR Beta is really for people that are "very early adopters". Expect to have problems. Also, you have to decide where to run the DVR Software. I.E. On a NAS (this is what I do) or Windows or Mac or Linux. Setup is more difficult then most software products because it is for "very early adopters".

You may want to read this forum starting from the beginning announcement.

Yes. You would have to pay $60 for early access which includes 1 year (I believe) Guide Data ($30)

yes , so if anybody reading this and your using the channels app, you can get the dvr service now for $60 and signup for the channels beta
mac or windows

so when this becomes public it will be $30 a year right? not $60 if i don't want tv guide

Not sure what you mean by the "if I don't want the TV guide ". I believe the final pricing for the annual DVR service with guide data has not been finalized. But if you want the HDHomeRun DVR Service after the beta I believe the price is going to be about $3/year partly for the Guide Data. Not sure you can get an absolute answer but you would need to check with SiliconDust.
You can install the DVR Service Software on many platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux and Current NAS Devices.

You made it seem in your post that is $30 for the guide and $30 for the DVR
Sorry. $60 for Early Access. It started as a Kickstarter fund raiser. The $60 included 1 year of DVR Service which includes Guide Data. Again, sorry if I have misled. I am not part of SiliconDust. Just trying to pass on my what I understand to be true.

I'm running kodi on the Mac and selecting my recordings from there , I select recent only
But the recorder still records last weeks episode
Like right now is recording walking dead , I just want to record the new one tonight at 9pm every Sunday not old episodes

"Beta"!!!!. They do not have NEW as you and I know it.....
Recent means, if the Original Showing is less then 90 days and you have not already recorded it. So, after it records current episode then delete it (usually from Mac Finder) then it should record the 9pm Episode.
Actually if the one tonight is simply a different Episode then it should record both.
Look at the Recordings Tab in KODI on the Mac and it should show what is planned to be recorded.
You may notice the same show on SD and HD Channels. It should record the HD and the one on the main channel (hopefully).
For me, I decided to disable all of my SD Channels to simplify things. I have no intention to watch SD anyway.

To disable Channels.
1. Go to my.hdhomerun.com
2. Click on non Channels.
3. On the Star click twice to disable (red circle with line thru).

Good Luck. Works pretty well after a bit on learning curve and setup.

ONE MORE THING......

Are you using the Channels DVR "Beta" to integrate with HDHomeRun DVR "Beta".

If so, the Channels DVR "Beta" App has access to the DVR Backend Recording Options that the KODI App does not have. Example, you can use the "Record this Airing" which is very nice. You can not do that with the KODI App. I also think they may have an option to record New. To be clear things are moving very fast. You will get the most features quicker with the Channels DVR "Beta".

Hope that helps.

Having recently cut cable this along with Tablo has piqued my interest.

The problem I had with Tablo and why I went with the HDHomerun and Channels combo was no 5.1 sound. It was stereo only back in November. Not sure if that's changed in the few months since or if it matters to you.

Interesting. Yeah 5.1 is important to me for sure.

MrMC and HDHomeRun using the built in binary pvr for the hdHomeRun. Backwards support for older HDHomeRun devices is pending.

No record but LiveTV works like a champ.

Im a HDHomerun Connect and Channels app user now. :)

As am I - exact same setup with the Connect! very happy with Channels, although it was tough to drop $25 on the app...but it is a beautifully designed app and pretty flawless in my use so far.

I also got in on the HDHomerun DVR Kickstarter for the DVR + Homerun Connect bundle, which has been working out pretty well. I record to a 24/7 Windows 10 server, running Plex and the DVR service...it works, not the most intuitive interface, but it does work pretty well!
