does the Channels app work with the SiliconDust HD DVR software?
Not yet. However, both SiliconDust and Channels state they are working together. If I was a guessing man with very little communication with Channels. I am guessing at least 90 days.

with how the Channels team has been actively improving their app.... I think they should work on their own DVR/NAS solution. SiliconDust just seems to be dragging their feet.

I understand your frustration. Same here. I am 100% Apple TV now (for my clients) and use the Channels App for Live TV multiple hours per day on multiple TV's. I currently use MrMC (KODI Clone) for my DVR Playback and manage them on my Mac Mini with Kodi. Not the best solution but works ok until Channels is complete. I find that it does record my shows without problems on a low cost WDMyCloud. However, I also use Hulu (with no commercials - $12/,month) which has reduced my DVR requirements by about 65%. Over time I am hoping for more On Demand Content without commercials. I also like CBS All Access but it has commercials so I am using the DVR for that. I think the hardest part to deal with is the one off recordings. The series is not a problem. But if I want to record a "DEBATE" it is just a hassle at this time. But SD has reported that they have added more rules for this kind of recording and should be out soon. But will not be on my Mac Mini Kodi is my guess for a while. The problem is SD has to deal with the DVR Backend and then all of the Clients. Channels is just 1 Client App and dedicated programmers (it appears).
I think their plan to work with SD is a good one. I believe their success and SD success are linked. From what I read on the SD Forums the backend is making good progress. However, I think the SD Clients will continue to drag out. As the DVR Backend gets to a particular set of API Features I expect the Channels Developers will make very fast progress.

is there a thread on silicone dust forum about the new beta?
the latest beta has been updated like 20 times but the last post in the old thread was feb 12
i don't see any other threads about the apple tv

I ended up re-upping with Verizon for another 2 years. Channels looks really good, but I need to be able to easily schedule programs on the DVR.

Hopefully, by early '18 Apple will have something out or SiliconDust HD DVR will be pretty solid option.

channels 1.5

This looks cool! Not available here in the UK though. Can you give us a quick review?
The app should be available in the UK.
You could connect to EyeTV on a Mac. Then you're able to watch Live TV and your recorded Shows. It has an EPG und you can schedule Records from your Apple TV. I like it :) And it seems that there will be a new version available soon: https://twitter.com/LiveZappTV

Is the Extend with h.264 gain any quality, or DVR space?

Mine will be Ethernet, wired connected if I try this. Network usage isn't an issue.

Or compatibility with iPad if we want to watch in a non tv room.

The box picture on Amazon, makes it look like the Connect does SD only. And the Extend does HD.
In my area, almost all stations are 1080i HD...

I use a Prime (Cable Card) version so I do not have that option. But I would think MPEG 2 without conversion would be better with all things equal. Your Ethernet setup and the Apple TV CPU Power should not have any problem with MPEG 2. Regarding SD vs. HD. I believe the HDHomeRun View App at some point only supported SD. But I think Channels and other third party apps do support HD from all the devices.

Hi guys, I'm trying to get set up in a new place and was wondering if you could help me with something. Long story short, my parents recently bought a condo on the beach and will be going back and forth between their house and their condo throughout the year. I've been looking at the HD Home Runs for myself, and just noticed they have a cable card version that I never really considered before. Now, I have like zero knowledge of cable cards and how they work...I'm researching them now but am unable to find the answer to this particular question...

So, my parents already have cable in their main home. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a cable card under that account and to use it in the condo? I.e. can you use a cable card in a location that is different than what is on the address of your main cable account? Can't find anything on this on Comcast's website (haha of course) so if anyone knows I'd appreciate it! If this isn't possible, I'll probably just get them set up with the OTA version and some Apple TVs.

No. Think of a CableCard as you would a regular STB. A cable comes to your house and it is slit to all of the STB's and the CableCards. It is just a CableCard plugs into the back of say a HDHomeRun Prime and you plug in the coax cable right next to it. Like you would plug a coax cable into the back of a STB.
However, if you are using something like an ATV at the Condo there are a lot of Apps that they can use their login credentials at the Condo and pick up some of the content.

What you want is the Slingbox.

Thank you.

Holy cow!!!!!

Plugged in. Launched channels app and it just worked! It had already scanned, and indexed before I knew anything happened.

This is brilliant.

It is a great App. Here is some recommendations on further setup that helps me.
If you go to my.hdhomerun.com you will see your device and Firmware and NNN Channels. If you click on the NNN Channels you can disable individual channels by clicking on the STAR twice. Click Once for Favorite and again to disable which will be a circle with a red line thru it. Normally do not want to set the Favorites here but you can for other Apps. The Channels App will store your favorites per Apple TV which is nice if you have multiple used by different people. Channels will get your channels from my.hdhomrun.com (information). So once you disable unused channels your All Channels view will be much smaller. Then you want to set your Favorites either on each channel (hold down) or in the Settings (faster). That will give you an even smaller list to deal with. And when you swipe down you will see a Quick View of only the Favorites going across the page so even if almost the same as All (if you are just looking at OTA) you want to do it for the Quick View.

Thanks, but I pretty much love how it puts all the HD channels up top readily accessible.

Here the HD channels are spread all around 2, 7, 46, 69. Was always a pain finding the nice clear mainstream ones.

Exactly. I love that as well. But I am on the Prime (2x) with CableCards. My FIOS Subscription includes 385 Channels. I reduced that to 82 by dropping the SD's, Duplicates, Foreign, Music and a few DRM's. Of the 82 I have 22 Favorites. On my Wife's TV her Favorites are about the same number but a little different. In my guest room and living room TV they are a little different which includes the Sports Channels (I do not watch sports) for when the Kids are visiting.

I really love this setup. Looking forward to phase 2 when they integrate the HDHomeRun DVR Service.

Oh ok - I got it now. It's a bit of a job getting the Eyetv connected up right (you need to sniff out a token and add it by hand - link to the instructions in the App Store description), but once it's all working this provides good access to shows you have already recorded on Eyetv. The epg from eyetv is present (if a little buggy at the moment) - you can use this to schedule new records, as well as plan your viewing. Sadly the big screen really highlights how crappy the streaming quality is for live TV using Eyeconnect - it was only ever designed for iPad / iPhone viewing, so the live tv is low quality, and slow to start.
This could certainly develop into a good system for recording shows - if used in conjunction with iTunes and a bit of eyetv know how they can even be added straight into your iTunes library for viewing.
Look forward to seeing how this one progresses, but I'll certainly be sticking with Channels for watching live tv.

What is the deal with getting the device token? I have followed the instructions but cannot get it to work. Can they make it more difficult? Lol

I already had mine from a previous mission setting eyetv up with Plex. That wasn't easy either though. It's basically a hack really.
