There's a charging bolt on all of them.
No, the other two are Thunderbolt™ symbols.

Wow ... what's Apple's excuse for having 1 port?

Design constraint, however to me it was an active decision by Apple as they want to push wireless services that can be monetarized, nor will I be surprised if the upcoming MPB`s drop the number of ports.

Hmm, but then why is there a charging bolt specifically on the isolated one? Maybe I'm wrong, but when they say charging, they could just mean external devices.

HP are simply differentiating the ports as two are USB C with TB3, the third is solely USB C. The fact that all ports are USB C means that you can charge the device with any port.

Q-6

Why would they put two bolts next to each other? That would be aesthetically stupid. They stated on their site that three are for charging and two are for Thunderbolt transfers. Why is this confusing?
Why put a charging bolt on at all if they all can charge the laptop? I've seen plenty of misleading product descriptions before.

I honestly can't answer that, but I don't know why they would blatantly lie on their website.

The laptop from the exterior is not bad. I like the black matte look at the shiny HP logo, but in terms of the inside of the laptop, the keyboard is almost a replica of the Mac keyboard. Take for instance the "F" and "J" keys, the raised bump is an apple keyboard signature design. The shape of the keys at the top where ESC and F keys lie are also in the half sized keyboard keys that apple has used for years.
Another person who thinks Apple invented everything when Apple was the one that did the copying. Sigh.

Apple is Apple, let's not split hairs over which person designed what, they're king and defining design year after year, on a long roll. Success is measured by how much people want, use and adore your products, and the level to which they defend them and wouldn't part from them - anyone who retorts with a semi sarcastic reply, with a defensive example of how poor ergonomics is defendable, is not worth wasting time on - not because I don't like you, but because your point doesn't hold up.

Let me ask you these things:

#1 If touchscreen input is such a sensible, amazing methodology for input, why are ALL Windows laptops not touchscreen yet?

#2 If Apple have got laptop design wrong, why does almost every mfr in existence, fall over themselves to emulate the MacBook design, bordering on infringement, in many cases? (side note - the exact same is seen in smartphones, too.)

I rest my case, and my fingers.

1. Touchscreen adds cost to manufacturers. Do you expect all sub $400 laptop to be touchscreen?

2. Are you referring to the unibody design? P.S. HTC was the first phone with the unibody all aluminium design. Apple copied it.

Honestly, these threads are pointless... unless, it runs Mac OS X.

No Mac user is going to buy it so they can run Windows on it.. let's call a spade a spade, and stop comparing apples to, well, lemons.

no, but a mac user like me might buy it so I can run photoshop, or Revit, or 3D max while being able to go anywhere. Thats not possible on a Macbook with a CoreM. Maybe possible on the i7 Macbook Air 13"...but seriously who would buy one them right now??

a lot of people use their computers for applications...not just sitting in the OS watching wheels spin

So it's got a worse display, 25% heavier and has an ugly hinge and is marginally thinner?

Congrats i guess.

edit:
oh and it even has 2 fans. kinda missing the point...

I don't know about anyone else, but personally I'd prefer a slightly thicker/heavier laptop that was more repairable, had a longer lasting battery, and faster.

Then buy one of those, there are plenty on the market.

Wow ... what's Apple's excuse for having 1 port?

"We can, and we like to force adoption of new standards".

Personally i'm ok with that. Others aren't. YMMV.

Apple are big enough and in a market position to do such things. Without Apple doing stuff like this we'd still have floppy drives, RS232 ports and PS2 mouse and keyboard ports everywhere.

Apple have been first to kill/heavily promote replacement of many existing standards. It's what they do.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I may be an electrical engineer, but I also design ads, websites, and other corporate art. I think this machine is quite attractive. But as many have so properly stated here, the deal breaker is the OS. It doesn't matter if the machine was to die for in terms of fabulous design. I would never have the desire to pay a single dime for it as long as it ran Windows. You can put all the diamonds, rubies and fancy attire on a pig that you like, but a pig is still a pig.

But, I find pigs cute though.

You realize not a single thing you just said makes any sense, right? What I said has nothing to do with forcing the adoption of standards. Apple put one USB-C port on the MacBook. This is thinner and has three.

All these companies that boast out-doing Apple... just the very fact that they chase their designs, measurements and colors makes these companies and designs lame. When you consider the lesser software and build quality of the product, they're still considerably behind Apple. When Apple said the Macbook Air was thin, they used an envelope to illustrate the point- they used a pencil to demonstrate the thin-ness of the iPad. All these other companies are using Apple as the standard by which they measure the quality of their products, and don't even seem to get the irony. I love it. :D

Except HP didn't, that's Macrumor's headline.

Not possible with a rMBP? Or that device can't go anywhere?

Again, other than clicks/page views why is this device being compared to a Mac instead of a Windows machine like Dell XPS or Surface Pro. Or even something from Lenovo. Aren't those HPs real competitors?

No you have a choice to get a computer that fits your needs. The MacBook is clearly not for you, why are you so hung up on that model?

You are mistaken, sir. My original post was a comment about this HP laptop versus the Macbook that uses similar connections (as in if HP can manage, why can't Apple?). My comments were a comparison. It is your response that made excuses for Apple's design choices that lead me to comment further on the Macbook. Please don't pretend I'm hung up on it. I'm simply mystified by Apple's designs as of late. They push USB-C early on the Macbook, but then they do not offer it on later Macbook Pro models or iMacs, even. They could have put it on the iPhone as well since it is the new worldwide STANDARD, but they chose to continue the Lightning port, even on the new iPad Pro where it doesn't have enough bandwidth to remotely begin to replace Macbooks as some reviews (from say Macworld) have suggested it is starting to do.

If Apple is going to embrace the standard that is USB-C, particularly now that is part of Thunderbolt III, they should do so wholeheartedly and begin putting it on everything so we only need ONE type of cable for everything (save hubs which would facilitate the transition at home and perhaps a USB-3 port or two for a few years on larger model notebooks and iMacs). But instead, Apple has frustratingly split their product lines into using different connectors while offering overall less connectors than in the past even for 15" models (e.g. my 2008 Macbook Pro had every connector a person could possibly want; now they can't even give you an extra USB3 port when they've removed Ethernet, Firewire, Express Card and larger video ports like the full size DVI the 2008 model had).

I'm ready to buy a new Macbook Pro and even possibly a new desktop replacement, but I'm not going to buy some outdated POS. I want Thunderbolt III with USB-C and a hub that can take an external graphics card for the Macbook Pro (so I can use it as a desktop) or an Mac desktop of some kind that has a REAL GPU capable of handling things like virtual reality, even if I have to dual-boot Windows to use it. We've been told THE reason Apple is not getting the Oculus Rift is that they don't offer a single model Mac that has a GPU that can make use of it properly and that includes the Mac Pro. I've been saying for years Apple needs better GPUs, but that company said it better in a nut shell how under-powered Macs are for graphics these days.

I don't like Microsoft's invasion of privacy and forced updates that is Windows 10, but I'm tired of being four years behind and a $1000 short on everything but the CPU due to Apple's inept hardware design choices.

So why is the macbook not one of its real competitors?

That's like you saying the galaxy s7 is not competing against the 6s. Really?
