Who calls that stuff "next level"?
It's sad that HP now turns every kindergarten idea into reality, and hopes this random permutation will inspire folks to buy.

the Touch Bar was never intended as a full on display, its a configurable touch controller with visual feedback. they knew they couldn't take up that much space, because it would make the computer really obnoxious to use. for example, where will you set your wrists when you type on this computer?

I don't think its a dumb idea... the problem is implementing it in a way that doesn't ruin the experience, and I don't think they nailed it here. Apple went super conservative in their approach to the point where most people don't really see the power... these guys went to the other extreme, and there is so much screen that it pushes the keyboard to a strange place, and the track pad is now only for right handed people.

This is what a lot of posters seem to overlook.

It’s a gaming laptop, which the average user isn’t going to buy.

Buyers aren’t going to care if others think this machine is ‘ugly. This is built for the purpose of gaming, not a fashion accessory ( like what Apple laptops have become for a lot of owners ).

Pretty slick for a gaming laptop.
This is obviously not intended for the average user.

The keyboard customizations and system monitoring on the smaller screen is nice.

Hilarious that this is supposed to be for "gamers". Another screen to look at? Good one.

Someone tell apple and HP that those overpriced screens are WORTHLESS and most ppl don't care!
I'm tired of the foolishnovative designs apple has made in the last years.

I want a nice computer with no compromises which means: NO MACS at all.

I have always found Peecees a massive compromise in design, a compromise in security, a compromise in efficiency, a compromise in user-friendlyness, a compromise in costs (how much does Windows whatever the number it is costs?), a compromise in everyway. I wish to see the return of the best laptop ever the 17" MacBook Pro, when pro meant, pro. I bought three of them. I hate the touch bar, not sure how many actually use it, costs a fortune, not worth it. But a typewriter is better than a Peecee, okay a little better. If you love Macs great, if you love peecees, I have to ask, really? But everyone can pick whatever works for them, even Android. As long as Microshaft are not in the game or market segment, companies, users, the tech industry always benefits, grows and prospers. Microsoft killed innovation, so the whole market stagnated.

I hate the touchbar, and I would without a doubt hate this too.

I don't get why people want something they need to look down to see... Keep your eyes at monitor level. Oh well to each their own.

Serious question, who does hardcore gaming on a laptop?

Wouldn’t it be better to build your own rig at a fraction of a cost?

I'd imagine that within the "hardcore gaming" niche, those that build their own rigs are a sub-niche.

You get it as a laptop because you want it to be portable. Sure - you lose some performance and increase the price, but it's portable. Same tradeoff as with any laptop.

Dual screens can be very useful, the Nintendo Wii U and DS/3DS proved that, but Nintendo applied ergonomics to both those designs which seems to have been completely skipped here.

Typewriter? Do you mean these Macs with their "keyboard"? :O
I had a PC with Windows 8.1 and I really liked it (but the battery omg) way more than the boriness of macOS.

Tell that to editors who find the Touch Bar really helpful, I don’t own a Touch Bar MacBook so I can’t speak from experience, but one of my friends uses a 2016 MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar, he really likes it and uses it when editing videos (which he does daily) he swears that it saves him time with edits.

I’ve tried it out in the Apple store and on my friends MacBook Pro, it seems more useful for some tasks and less so for others.

What is the weight of this beast? For those who are not familiar Alienware (Dell) makes gaming notebooks. They are absurdly big and heavy and use a massive power block for power. They do have legitimate video cards. I have a client who uses them for portable (rolling cart) dental scanning stations.
