I have always found Peecees a massive compromise in design, a compromise in security, a compromise in efficiency, a compromise in user-friendlyness, a compromise in costs (how much does Windows whatever the number it is costs?), a compromise in everyway. I wish to see the return of the best laptop ever the 17" MacBook Pro, when pro meant, pro. I bought three of them. I hate the touch bar, not sure how many actually use it, costs a fortune, not worth it. But a typewriter is better than a Peecee, okay a little better. If you love Macs great, if you love peecees, I have to ask, really? But everyone can pick whatever works for them, even Android. As long as Microshaft are not in the game or market segment, companies, users, the tech industry always benefits, grows and prospers. Microsoft killed innovation, so the whole market stagnated.

Some one should pay attention to what Microsoft have been doing in the last 5 years, they are definitely not stagnate.

Cost of windows? Windows comes free if you buy a PC.

As always, choose your o/s and hardware for what you are doing. OSX is better than Windows for various tasks, and Windows is better than OSX for others. Windows performs very well for gaming- which this laptop is built for.

I don't know, but I like having palm rests when I type. Would I type with this with my hands suspended in the air, or would I need a solid surface under the laptop to rest my palms on? Doesn't make ergonomic sense to me.

Umm, that touchpad is in a weird place. Would rather have a full sized keyboard.
Also, gaming on a laptop you always use an external mouse.
Also, the touch bar on the Mac is already an inconvenience. Why would I want one 4 times the size?

On Groupon 5 mins ago, there is a sale on, windows 10 or Pro Edition for £34.99 reduced from £99.99 so where it is free again?

The trackpad layout is actually quite "game friendly". To the comment's on lefties, they've been dealing with the dominance of right handed users in the market for years, why should now be any different? The specs are impressive, but the rest of the design is frankly ugly.

what innovation? All they have been doing is chasing Amazon's AWS business, the only part that makes Amazon money. That's just servers and cloud stuff. AI? Will that end up like augmented reality or 3D TVs? There are loads of companies doing that, probably all incompatible with each other. They seem to be forcing people to buy subscriptions for all their software, when people want to buy and pay for upgrades when it suits them. Not as though Apple have innovated such for 10 years. Microsoft and innovation never seem to gel well together, two words that mean different things with MS products.

My primary issue with the touch bar is that Apple took away the real ESC key and function keys - this HP keyboard still has that row.

I mean, it's obviously not meant for me and the design is atrocious, but it still has a full keyboard AND the 2nd screen...

A carefully researched product aimed at Chinese gamers (notably women) who like to game while messaging on social media at the same time. Let's, of course, all complain about how we do not like it, and ignore the fact that HP invests time and effort researching, targeting, and developing products aimed at specific niche demo/psychograhics. It took Apple over four years to decide to really decide to assess developers' needs when developing Pro devices targeting them. Hopefully we will find out in June if Apple can again research and understand a demo/psychographic and fine-tunes its products to make them happy. The guy with the intuition about this sadly passed, yet his posse has for years continued on treating important niches as though they do not exist, and that their intuitions are right for everyone.

This seems so useless I don't even know where to start. Complexity precedes simplicity, it doesn't follow it.

Hm, i can see me using this for chatting and iTunes control. This is something that bugs me switching constantly between those apps. Would prefer it where the trackpad is though.

This is just silly.
The touch bar was a pointless addition. This is just doubling down on the silliness.
The correct direction to go would have been something akin to the ModBook concept that was around in the early 2000's. If you're going to make a touchscreen laptop, then go whole horse. Why tip-toe into it with baby sized screens?

What a piece of junk.
She'll make point five past lightspeed...

Reminds me of the Razor Blade laptops from a couple years ago that had a similar display built into the trackpad. Could serve as a second screen or interactive touch screen. Just more awkwardly implemented.

For what it's worth, I do all my gaming on a laptop, because I can bring it with me to friends' houses or around my own house. Plus, because gaming laptops are typically made with great components, they make for great workstations for getting work done. I currently use an HP Omen X 17" with a GTX 1080 because the power and cooling are way beyond what Apple offers.

I will be among the first getting a laptop like this from HP once their 2080 solutions start rolling out. Been considering a Razer Blade 15 Advanced and nearly bought one last night because of the 2080 and high refresh screen, but will probably hold out and get this one instead. Will keep Slack down there during work, with Visual Studio on the main screen. Will keep TeamSpeak or Discord down there while gaming, with my game up on the main screen. This is - despite some people's criticism of how it looks - an excellent solution for such things and actually useful.

Well done HP!

Innovation scares some folks. It's understandable as Apple hasn't done a heck of a lot in the past few years, aside from their growing list of politically correct emojis. I usually buy every new MBP when they come out, but the prices have finally reached a point that I can't afford. The Lenovo P1 may well be my next replacement. Yeah, its Windows, but the 'May Release' isn't bad; especially when combined with and the new 'Edge' browser' - very cool layout.

Anyway, this seemingly unattractive HP does incorporate a sub-screen that is large enough to read messages, reminders, and portions of emails, all while viewing the main screen for more prominent tasks. I'm right-handed, so the position of the trackpad would work for me. The case is metal, so maybe it's durable and dongle free. While I'm not a gamer, I am interested in seeing one in the raw before writing it off.

People already do that. And besides, a lot of gamers have a desktop PC with dual monitors. This is for the gamers who want the dual setup, but at the same time want a laptop.
Also many consoles allow for a tablet to be used as a second screen to activate consumables via touch in game like the function keys or to display the game map. As an avid gamer I can see this mini screen being useful for gaming

It's great to see companies push boundaries and test out new, creative approaches. Apple is moving towards the minimal, conservative edge, which leaves little room for bold, new ideas. Kudos to HP.
