That's until people wake up and realise how ridiculous the profit margin is on Apple products. Actually, they probably won't ever wake up as history suggests.

Apple not interested in selling their products for people doing lots of research on price, spec, performer etc... They want to serve lead customers but with increased margins. That's how Apple was always been! After that, people only in the creative industry and extremely specialised pros using their equipment. Others simply moved to PC.

That's why Apple products are so popular between programmers.

But they sell so much at cheap prices so it’s mis Leading

For some reason they only report in units sold...

Sure, it's the classic recipe for success... diligently copy everything about Apple's products and marketing. Oh, and maaaaaybe also be willing to deeply integrate spyware on behalf of the Chinese government. Or maybe not.

Hey - it worked for Samsung! Until the Galaxy S9 sales crash.

And this is exactly my point. None of the now growing number of brands who've incorporate the notch into their design have Apple's level of tech for 3D mapping facial ID, and yet they've used the notch design because Apple did it first. Not saying Apple is always the first with design or tech, but they can claim first for real facial ID and first for a notch design, whether you like the design or not.

Sorry to disappoint, and I don't really care about this stuff, but: https://www.phonearena.com/news/First-notch-phone-Sharp-not-Essential_id105608

Well duh. How on earth can our products compete in markets that tariff the crap out of American goods? The same iPhone 8 64GB sells for 790$US in China vs $699 in the US.

Shanghaichica said: I’m sure that’s Apple’s doing.

Probably why the iPhone X is $999 dollars in the US and £999 in the UK. Even though $1 doesn’t equal £1.

Apple are the only tech company applying this conversion.

That's mostly not tariffs. In the US sellers are allowed to lie and quote prices without sales tax (and any other taxes), while in the EU you have to quote the final price. Add that sales tax is ~10 percent and VAT is 15-20 percent and you end up justifying a large part of the price difference. Bet it's the same in China.

Let's try it for the iPhone X; 999 usd plus 20% VAT is 1200 usd, which converts to 914 gbp. The rest *is* creative currency conversion, but it's a smaller part of the price than it seems to be.

Looks like Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO will be top three in few years.
And Samsung/Apple should share next spots respectively!
Regardless Apple will still lead the profits by quite a margin. Quantity doesn't matter!

Quantity has a quality all its own.

Unless you're literally Tim Cook, or a shareholder, why do you care about how much profit a smartphone company makes?

In the same vein, why do I as a consumer care how many units of a competing product was sold?

It seems hypocritical that people are allowed to use market share as an argument for how much Apple is falling behind (however fallacious that may be), but the moment someone tries to point out that profit could be just as meaningful a metric (if not more), he’s an Apple shill?

So enlighten me - when Apple gets apps and accessories for their platform first, how exactly is Apple falling behind from the competition selling more units of a cheaper model that doesn’t even compete in the same market segment?

Market share doesn’t matter to Apple because they are playing a different game. They are interested in selling less products but at a premium price. So for them it’s all about profits. Now that the iPhone is quite stagnant in terms of growth or growing at a very slow pace Apple increased the price of their flagship to compensate for this. This year they are said to be releasing a $700 Phone, whilst not a budget phone would be cheap enough to pull in new customers. People like to write Tim Cook off but he’s still got a few tricks up his sleeve. He can see how the market is changing and has so far been able to adapt to that with either pricing strategy or increasing product lines.

that's because everyone is waiting for the next iPhone.
Its quite simple. Apple needs 3 lens and dual sim capacity. And a better price point. Here in Europe we are deserting the iPhone ship like rats. Especially for dual sim capacity. One for work, one for social. OH, and their stupid folders that you cannot get rid of like favourites and selfies (full of my meter readings lol). Oh and the music playlists they multiply and the personal music they delete. and the uselessness of iCloud compared to the competition.

Yea don't you just love giving all your hard earned money to Apple knowing that there's no need for them to be so greedy. Sort of gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.

I wasn't arguing either way, dude. Marketshare and revenue are both pointless ways to measure anything.

Looool, Nice try, truth is Apple is the most valuable company in the world, not Huawei or Samsung.

And Scrooge was probably one of the richest guys in the town.
Having all the money still didn't pan out well in the long term.

Siri implementation would be enough to sink Apple. There are several other poor design issues that make it overpriced.

Clearly, Huawei's success is directly attributable to the notch.

The Notch maybe will be the most controversial of all things Apple has ever implemented, but it’s their trademark and it houses some of the most advanced 3-D facial mapping biometric security on the smart phone market. I think it’s a brilliant implementation in multiple ways.

Apple could reduce the price of their phones (and will eventually), to stop the greedy insane profits.
