So is this thing going to work outside the US? If not then there really is no reason for charging you because is the US you can watch everything for free anyways!

Hulu Plus is a new, revolutionary ad-supported subscription product

LOL, ad-supported...but also YOU supported, since we're also going to charge you on top of the ads. What a joke.

You may not want it on your phone, but it would be nice on the computer and TV. From what I understand, free hulu wont offer as much HD content as Hulu Plus.

You quoted me but still missed my point. Hulu Plus is a premium service, and the iPhone/iPad Apps are just one of the features included. You even missed my statement that I'm in Canada, so I can't enjoy Hulu on my phone, HD or otherwise.

I actually don't have a phone. Certainly not for watching videos on. That would be silly. Screen is inappropriate for SD let alone HD. If i had an ipad, what would i do, sit on my couch across from my 60 inch tv and watch the HD content on the ipad?

I didn't miss your point. Your personal issues were not what I was interested in commenting on.

Paying for someone to force you to watch ads that someone else paid for -- PURE USA!

Great and all, but I'd love to have something for the Wii, too. With streaming netflix AND even $9.99/mo, that'd save me a ton on regular cable bills. Until something like that happens or I stumble upon a PS3, this is just another service I don't have much interest in.

I'm definitely on board for this. We cut off our cable TV this year and have been using playon software to stream our Hulu shows to my xbox. I really do wish that the xbox was getting it immediately, but by the time it does it'll be a good buy for me. Not paying $60 a month extra for cable TV - being able to watch any episode from the whole season anytime I want without having to manage a DVR - all at HD resolution - PLUS i get to watch shows on my iPhone over 3G!?!? There's lots to like here - and a perfect compliment to my Netflix account. I wonder if Plus members will get access to new episodes when they air or if we'll still have to wait a day. Time will tell. Gonna at least wait till the network seasons start up again.

To those who say "look at all these other pay+ad services, it's not that big of deal or anything new" I would retort that those other services do not have a nearly equal service that is absolutely free+ads. It makes no sense for computer viewing. I suppose it's going to be the only option for mobile/tv viewing, but man that sucks.

It seems to me that with Netflix coming out soon for iPhone/iPod touch, I could do just fine to watch something from Netflix on my iPod and then watch whatever it is on Hulu that I want to watch whenever I get home.

I sure hope that a lower number of subscribers than hoped for will cause them to rethink this, but I'm not holding my breath.

During the guided tour video, I spy a "CC" button on the videos. If the iPad/iPhone app does indeed support CC, I will more than gladly pay $9.99 a month for this.

why?

it would only be worth paying if they guarantee NO COMMERCIALS. lololol

That will never happen, of course.

I would even pay it, that's not the issue.. but if I am paying you still want me to watch ads, for shows you have on tv anyway.

**** YOU HULU.

nobody should subscribe, let them see what people won't put up with.

I will not pay to watch ads. When will they get it? People fall into two camps: they either will watch for free ad watch ads as a result, or pay to watch content uninterrupted. I am happy with either option. But to pay AND watch ads? NO WAY.

Well almost every household in the US pays for cable or satellite tv, so there is only a very small portion of US households who get "free" tv now.

By the way I would be all over this if they offered EVERY episode of all these shows. That would be something of real value and interest to me.

Just having the current season is of mild interest, but may be enough if I am behind or miss a show or two and spend $10 for one month to catch up. Makes no sense to me as a month-to-month service, personally.

this is crap

It seems like netflix has things figured out pretty good. You pay, you get all the extras for free. Ad free. On almost any device. In fact, I might just up and boycot hulu now, ever since we got netflix I dont use it anyways. I mean $10 a month? On netflix i pay 9 and i can watch whatever wherever. I can get free DVDs and I can stream to my wii. I can watch for free on my wii, computers, and soon my iPod touch. anywhere theres wifi. With the dvds. Ad free. And look how rich they are... sorry hulu, oh wait no im not.

Funny how the walk through did not mention the commercials. They can cram their pay service w/ commercials with walnuts. I'll, like many others here, stick to NetFlicks.

I see what torrents and free news on the internet has done to us. Everyone expects content to be free. They don't want to pay for it. But they don't want ads either. Quite an interesting state in our society. ADS CAN'T PAY FOR IT ALL.

Where are all the positive ratings for this article on the home page? Isn't this what all the flash haters wanted? Hulu content in iOS supported h264?

And how, after all the countless warnings, is anyone surprised they are charging for it? This is Steve's vision. Monthly bills on top of monthly bills, supported by countless, OS level integrated ads and additional micro-transactions.

It's too bad the walled garden is so beautiful (and expensive) from the inside.

;)

ADS CAN'T PAY FOR IT ALL.

Hulu is already profitable even with "at least 50 percent of its ad sales to its triumvirate of owners, NBC Universal, Disney and New Corp."

Quick 90 second hands-on video:

Ads are shorter than YouTube ads.

90 minutes of content had 7 commercials, I guess of ~30 seconds. For paid content, that is a lot.

For many here, its the point of paying to have the privilege of seeing commercials. While cable also works on the same model, one can choose to change channels. However, given the one task nature of the application, you are held captive.

Hulu Plus on the Ipad

I was just playing around with Hulu Plus on the iPad.

-Picture quality is great.
-There is a small amount of free content. It looks like none of the hulu.com free content will be available through the app (so basically pay or the app is worthless)
-Lots of television shows
-Far less movie content, very few good movies

It might be worth signing up for a month or two at a time to catch up on some old TV shows, but nowhere near the value of a Netflix subscription.

I'd say that's very little in fact. Many 30 minute TV shows are actually only 21-22 minutes because the other 8 minutes are left for commercials and broadcasting stuff.

90 minutes of content had 3.5 minutes of commercials total - - Hulu
30 minutes of content had 8-9 minutes of commercials total - - TV

The results are in aaaand... bzzzt.

Netflix wins, without even trying!

Lets see, for the same $, netflix offers higher quality content (as in, not written at a 7th grade level), with no ads.

Nice try Hulu. "Parks & Rec", "It's Always Sunny", & "Archer" will only carry you so far.
