Im now very anxious for this o_O

Has anyone tried to look behind the scenes to see if there is a hosting page that isn't currently linked yet, or something like that?

If not, has anyone tried to update Android Auto to see if maybe it is just mislabeled?

TONIGHT @ MIDNIGHT!!!!!!!!!! just talked with a rep over the phone

Hyundai is releasing a software update that brings CarPlay support to eight new vehicles, including the 2016 Elantra GT, 2015 and 2016 non-hybrid Sonata, 2017 Santa Fe Sport, 2017 Santa Fe, 2015 and 2016 Genesis Sedan, and the 2016 Tucson.

The vehicles gaining CarPlay support through a software update join Hyundai's previously announced CarPlay models, the 2016 Sonata, 2017 Elantra, and the 2017 IONIQ. Hyundai has not officially announced the news, but dealers were sent a notice about the update on May 19. Dealer information suggests the update is supposed to be available as of today, May 24.

Hyundai owners with an eligible vehicle can download the CarPlay update through the Hyundai website and are encouraged to go through the installation process themselves. A Mac or PC with an SD card slot or an external SD card reader is required to download the software and transfer the update to the vehicle's in-dash system. Software download times range from 25 minutes for Display Audio to more than three hours for Navigation if a map update is required.

CarPlay took several years to roll out to new vehicles, but there are now dozens of 2016 and 2017 vehicles available with CarPlay support. Apple maintains a list of vehicles that come equipped with CarPlay on its website, which sees updates every few weeks.

(Thanks, Brad!)

Hope you're right! When I was at the dealership earlier today, there was a corporate rep there, and he said it would be out at 7 pm EST. Obviously that wasnt right lol

Model Year 2017 and they still haven't figured out how to include wifi in the car.

Tesla cars have updated themselves overnight via wifi since at least 2012 (not sure if the Roadster did or not) - no interaction with you necessary (although you can opt out of automatic updates and do manual instead if you want.)

Glad manufactures are still showing dedication to CarPlay, now if only more of them would allow updates to older models

CarPlay is seen by auto manufactures as a nice piece of bait to lure people into their showrooms and make them upgrade to a new vehicle. Hyundai is an exception. I know someone who just got a 2016 Acura TLX and he's not happy because the Acura rep told him it's unlikely his model will get CarPlay. Meanwhile, the Accord has it as well as the new 2016 Civic.

Ah man. That's fantastic news. If only VW would do the same. I've got a 2015 Golf waiting to have that update ;-)

Finally. I was starting to give up hope. I was mad as hell that Android Auto showed up when the car was one of the first shipping cars that was supposed to get CarPlay. I honestly don't know what the hell took them so long seeing as they demoed it on the car before you could even buy it. I seriously wonder what the hold up was. Now if I could find the damn download link...

I have been waiting 20 months for this update. The advertised CarPlay support was the reason I got the 2015 Sonata and now more than halfway through a 36-month lease it is still not available. It never occurred to me to suspect vaporware in a car, but there you are.

Unless you buy a Tesla, a software update of this magnitude for a previously-purchased car is a freaking miracle. Even if they manufacturer advertised it was coming. Which is sad. It's no wonder Tesla is able to disrupt the auto industry.

Oh, they could figure it out quite quickly. The issue is not the technical aspects, it's the lack of corporate motivation to bother. Selling their crappy in-house proprietary systems has been a cash-cow for a long time, and they are loathe to let go of that. But if they don't, consumers will let go of it for them.

I wish Jeep/Chrysler would release theirs already! And it better include 2016 models or I'll be fuming.

if you have this radio

(note the apps option)

If your radio has apps you can probably get the update. I might be wrong? But I'm pretty sure the 8.4A/8.4AN get it.

The older 8.4/8.4N use completely different hardware.

Then again I don't think they sell any cars with the 8.4N anymore.

It's stupid because they could have just defined some kinda "Chrysler CAN BUS messaging standard" and then made all of the radios compatible with each other. But no. What I think happens is Mopar is too lazy to hire their own in-house programmers so they contract EVERYTHING, and when they change contractors nothing's compatible. ERrgggh

I've been waiting months for this! But I have the 2015 sonata hybrid...

WHY IS IT ONLY FOR THE NON HYBRIDS?!?!?!

I talked to Hyundai at the LA Auto Show and they assured me that it would be released for my model.
I have the 2016 plug in hybrid. Makes no sense to me why a more expensive car is getting pushed back.

I just downloaded the Android Auto update for my 2016 Sonata... it is as advertised... NOT Car Play... at least al o the files in the image which eventually downloads are circa 2015... so I assume it's the old update.

It's after midnight for me... :(

Hmmm... People on Tucson forums are saying their Android auto update included CarPlay.

If I go to myhyundai on a computer (not a mobile browser) a tab shows up which says "Downloads"

what are the mod dates on the files? Are they a real old? I'm curious. :)

damn it! i don't have it yet

I have a 2015 Sonata, so the Android Auto update has been there under downloads for about 11 months. If you have a vehicle which hasn't had a web update yet, perhaps you don't get the tab?

just re-checked out the chart from the original article... The Tucson doesn't have Android Auto already, so they got a twofer update... I'm inferring, from the chart, that if your car already has a public Android Auto update available, a Car Play update will be supplemental.
