Loving the CarPlay's retro look. Brings back the original style of the 2007 iPhone. Remember that? A great and subtle way to mark it's 10th Anniversary next year. Watch your passengers exclaim "Wow! An iPhone in the dash?. Respect, man!" Lovely. ;)

Download is up and working for me. Was able to download in about 45 minutes. You'll need the SD card that came with your car.

Also, as to why the Hybrid isn't included in the update, it's because the hybrid models are almost always based on the previous body style and technology, so the OS and other important portions of the system are likely based on the 2014 tech package. I read this somewhere before, but don't have a link without looking for it (which I don't care to do).
2016 hybrid was redesigned. I have the 2016 plug in hybrid and it is supposed to be getting apple CarPlay, it's even im the buyers info. Probably uses slightly different hardware or something that is delaying update.

I had a rental 2016 Sonata SE for a few days not long ago and it had CarPlay operational.

All in all it was pretty cool, particularly the Siri and Maps integration. No, it's not earth shattering, but it's definitely a nice feature. I wouldn't eliminate a car from consideration due to lack of CarPlay, but its existence would certainly be a plus when choosing among different models/makes.

I definitely did, but it had a submenu that said Android Auto. That submenu went away this morning, and I got the screenshot you saw earlier.
Nice!
How big was the download?
And does it connect through BlueTooth or cable?
Also: can you now see the same music layout as on your iPhone? For example the albums, playlist, artists and numbers?
And last one: what does "Maps" do? Does it launch the Hyundai stock navigation, or does it launch Apple Maps? If Apple maps launches, can you also still use the stock navigation?

Woohoo, 2016 Genesis finally. I hope they release Android Auto as well, which is rumored to be soon.

Ford's website:

Owners of 2016 model year Ford vehicles with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software upgrade and purchase a hardware upgrade to use Apple CarPlay. Please check back on the Ford Owner site this summer for more information about these upgrades.

if you have this radio

(note the apps option)

If your radio has apps you can probably get the update. I might be wrong? But I'm pretty sure the 8.4A/8.4AN get it.

The older 8.4/8.4N use completely different hardware.

Then again I don't think they sell any cars with the 8.4N anymore.

It's stupid because they could have just defined some kinda "Chrysler CAN BUS messaging standard" and then made all of the radios compatible with each other. But no. What I think happens is Mopar is too lazy to hire their own in-house programmers so they contract EVERYTHING, and when they change contractors nothing's compatible. ERrgggh

Yep I have the top radio with the Apps (mine also has Nav). But as far as I know, they announced in January CarPlay would be coming in an update in 2016, and that update still has not come. And no new info or ETA since that announcement.

I have a 2015 Sonata with navigation, I am so happy Hyundai did this can wait. If you need to download you have to use your SD card that comes with your car and follow the instructions. You have to go to HyundaiUSA for the download. I feel bad for those cars who did not made the cut.

My brand new Honda CRV has the same display system as the Carplay-equipped Civic. Makes me wonder if or when I will get an update.

Hey guys. I got the 2016 sonata sport and still don't have the link in the navigation bar for a download option. Am I alone here.

My 2016 Genesis doesn't have the link yet, but my wife's 2016 Sonata does for some odd reason. I think we just have to be patient while the behind the scenes stuff goes on.

I hope you have a 2016 model since there will be no update for 2015 and down. Only UConnect 4th generation will have it.

Weird. You would assume that they would all tie in running the same stuff. Will the download link just appear?

FYI, Mac OS 9 was codenamed "Sonata"

I'm just waiting for Toyota to get Carplay.

Me too. I usually buy Toyota but I might switch to Honda depending on other options. I don't know why Toyota has to have their own interface when most people want Carplay.

Hyundai is releasing a software update that brings CarPlay support to eight new vehicles, including the 2016 Elantra GT, 2015 and 2016 non-hybrid Sonata, 2017 Santa Fe Sport, 2017 Santa Fe, 2015 and 2016 Genesis Sedan, and the 2016 Tucson.

The vehicles gaining CarPlay support through a software update join Hyundai's previously announced CarPlay models, the 2016 Sonata, 2017 Elantra, and the 2017 IONIQ. Hyundai has not officially announced the news, but dealers were sent a notice about the update on May 19. Dealer information suggests the update is supposed to be available as of today, May 24.

Hyundai owners with an eligible vehicle can download the CarPlay update through the Hyundai website and are encouraged to go through the installation process themselves. A Mac or PC with an SD card slot or an external SD card reader is required to download the software and transfer the update to the vehicle's in-dash system. Software download times range from 25 minutes for Display Audio to more than three hours for Navigation if a map update is required.

CarPlay took several years to roll out to new vehicles, but there are now dozens of 2016 and 2017 vehicles available with CarPlay support. Apple maintains a list of vehicles that come equipped with CarPlay on its website, which sees updates every few weeks.

(Thanks, Brad!)
