Patience and persistence pays off
The point is that they are out there. Patience and persistence will get you there. Also, being polite doesn't hurt.
OK, my just-turned 13 year old daugther has saved allowance, babysitting money, birthday money, etc., for over a year to get iPad. She was going to get the older model, but then got some money for birthday, which gave her enough to wait and get the new one. Of course, her birthday came 3 weeks after the launch, right in the midst of the crush of trying to get one.
So, I'd been tracking with the online Target tracker (every 10 minutes during waking hours for the last week), but I haven't seen any of the 16GB wifi models available locally during that time.
Decided to try the Apple store last week - waited for 2 hours in Washington Square Mall (Oregon) with her last week only to get declined, so I thought I'd try one more time before ordering online. I thought I might go earlier and to an Apple store not inside the mall (since I thought colder weather would keep some away). Well, got up at 5 this morning headed over to Bridgeport Apple (in Tigard, Oregon). There were only a handful ahead of me. Good news is that it wasn't raining - bad news is it was only 36 degrees.
After waiting for over 2 hours (having a good time chatting with fellow propestive ipad buyers), around 7:40 the manager came out saying that they didn't get any AT&T models or any 64GB wifi models, but he'd be handing tickets out at 8.
Anyway, ended up he only had about 8-10 non-Verizon models in total available. But I got the 16GB wifi my daughter had wanted. Upon telling her, it was her excitement and appreciation that made stumbling out of bed at 5 and freezing my buns off for 3 hours all worth it.
So, yes, patience and persistence do payoff - and getting up early enough to beat the scalpers doesn't hurt either.
