I don't remember, how long were people raging over the iPhone 4?

and there seemed to be this much demand for the new iPT was there?

I ordered mine last month on Apple's site, scheduled to be delivered end of this month. I went on vacation in Huntington Beach a couple of weeks ago, and found it at a Target store. I hit the cancel button on my order as soon as I got back from vacation. It seems like people find them easier at Target for some reason.

The times I've stepped into Target to ask, they've not had any but have told me they get shipments at x time in the morning and also shipments via truck overnight.

One of my friends who ordered from Apple online awhile ago (presumably around launch time) got his a few days ago.

I've got a 64GB Black Wifi iPad 2 brand new in the box if you want to buy it for what I paid at the Apple store online. I ended up getting one from Target and didn't get a chance to cancel the order, so it should be here tomorrow from Fedex if you want it.

I'm in West Palm Beach. PM me if interested, otherwise its going back to the Apple store this week for a refund.

Fizz, that's not what the 2 Apple Stores in South Florida told me. They had no ideal when deliveries come in. Not necessarily daily.

I've had my 32GB Black wifi & 3G for a couple of weeks now, here in the UK... a great, fab, and magical device. If you'd like it posted express to where you live, PM me and I'll sell it to you gladly... ;)

I haven't seen a sniff of one in the area. Not that I've been actively looking... but it still "appears" sold out everywhere I go.

You never mentioned what model you wanted? I'm sure it is near impossible to get the 16gb wifi only.

I had to work a Saturday in Manhattan near Columbus Circle not even thinking about the iPad. Me and my friend finished setting up at 8:30 and decide to take a walk. Passed the Apple store with 30 people out front at 8:50 and they said they were opening at 9 so I wanted the ten minutes in line and they had white verizon iPads. I take it this is a less desirable model for most. I picked up a 32gb in 5 minutes. Not exactly what I might have wanted as I was thinking black and I think the white is actually is totally fine- almost makes me happy because it stands out a bit more so I don't sit on it on a dark surface or something stupid like that.

Please elaborate.

Just sayin that it will be amazing that the lines will be rather long at best buy a month later of the rumors are true that they are holding on to supplies for a big sale later. The iPad 2 is a BEAST. I was shaking my head because the demand for this thing is unreal

There is a bunch by me...

Can't you do the thing where you can check after 9PM on the Apple website to reserve one at your nearest Apple store to pick up the next day or is that just for the UK?
I'm pretty sure that the above doesn't exist for the US. I didn't see anything on www.apple.com to suggest us US residents can do that and there was chatter about this not being available on other threads.

Yep. Not enough info from the OP.

As I posted at post #148 of https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1113359/, MacMall has a bunch of Verizon iPad 2s in stock, even as a of now.

My open orders are for 32 gig wi-fi only black. I didn't want white and certainly didn't wait to pay for AT&T nor VZ models. I figured 16 gigs was going to be too small given my 16 gig iPhone 4 is too small.

Walked into Best Buy today in Denver. There was a whiteboard sign saying iPad 2 sold out. I had to purchase mine at Best Buy since I received a bunch of gift cards over the last year to Best Buy.

Anyway, I ask to talk to the manager to see if they would be willing to reserve one for me. She gives me the line that Apple has given the directive that they cannot hold any iPads for customers. We talk about shipping dates and when they normally get them. She said they got some in today and decides to check in the back.

She comes out with a white 64gb iPad 2 and asks if that was ok. I replied that I was looking for black one and passed. Kidding. I took it and walked out a happy man.

The point is that they are out there. Patience and persistence will get you there. Also, being polite doesn't hurt.

daily is an average, of course. what they told you is exactly in line with that i said.

I woke up at 840 ...got to the apple store at 905 and was home by 930 with an ipad

If you don't mind me asking, where in NJ did you buy it? I work in Edison and cannot find the 64GB AT&T model anywhere.

Patience and persistence pays off

OK, my just-turned 13 year old daugther has saved allowance, babysitting money, birthday money, etc., for over a year to get iPad. She was going to get the older model, but then got some money for birthday, which gave her enough to wait and get the new one. Of course, her birthday came 3 weeks after the launch, right in the midst of the crush of trying to get one.

So, I'd been tracking with the online Target tracker (every 10 minutes during waking hours for the last week), but I haven't seen any of the 16GB wifi models available locally during that time.

Decided to try the Apple store last week - waited for 2 hours in Washington Square Mall (Oregon) with her last week only to get declined, so I thought I'd try one more time before ordering online. I thought I might go earlier and to an Apple store not inside the mall (since I thought colder weather would keep some away). Well, got up at 5 this morning headed over to Bridgeport Apple (in Tigard, Oregon). There were only a handful ahead of me. Good news is that it wasn't raining - bad news is it was only 36 degrees.

After waiting for over 2 hours (having a good time chatting with fellow propestive ipad buyers), around 7:40 the manager came out saying that they didn't get any AT&T models or any 64GB wifi models, but he'd be handing tickets out at 8.

Anyway, ended up he only had about 8-10 non-Verizon models in total available. But I got the 16GB wifi my daughter had wanted. Upon telling her, it was her excitement and appreciation that made stumbling out of bed at 5 and freezing my buns off for 3 hours all worth it.

So, yes, patience and persistence do payoff - and getting up early enough to beat the scalpers doesn't hurt either. :)

I got the same line here in CA when I tried to reserve an ipad 2 for the wife at BB with their $100 deposit program. I think this is the true story of the supposed rumor going around last week that Apple was going to stop BB ipad sales. It irritates me that Apple makes it easy for the scalpers and such to get their ipads while the rest of us 'day laborers' get the shaft.

The target inventory scanning searches provided here are not reliable. I saw an available status on 2 of my near by Targets this morning, and when I went personally, they told me no deliveries today. I argue with them that it's showing in their online inventory search, and they refused to acknowledge they receive the iPad2 this morning, saying I have the wrong information.

if your time is worth anything and you really want it go pick one from craigslist

i needed to get one as a bday gift for my sis and picked a 32 gig wifi for 700. 23 dollars extra to save em hours of time? hell i will take it anytime.

I can't speak for every Apple store but the one closest to me does indeed know how much of each Ipad model they have because they're delivered the day before (ex. they received inventory today for for sale tomorrow morning). The amount they receive determines whether they'll actually run a line or if it's a small amount they'll hand out tickets & disperse the line early.

I used the target tracker posted earlier in this thread right before I left work today. I was able to drive to a target on my way from work and pick up a 16GB wifi without any issues. I just walked up to the electronics counter and asked. :D

I think it's hard if you think you can just stroll in to any store in the middle of the day/afternoon and expect them to have it in stock. Your best bet is get to the store early and on a slow business day (usually tues).
