how long did the frenzy for the original iPad last?? I remember I got one of those 3 days after launch and had it delivered in about 4 days..

I think everyone in line at Mission Viejo, CA store this morning got one. I got there about 9:15 and got what I wanted. Some had to not be picky I think. The time it took to get to checkout was a but much though.

Thanks!

I'm not surprised. It seems like availability goes in this order: Verizon, AT&T, wi-fi only. I'm guessing that 64 gig 3G SKUs are probably are more readily available too, due to high cost.

Sure thing! Yeah, I would agree with your assessment. The funny thing is my preference was the opposite order of your assessed availability. I determined while in that quick decision moment that ultimately I would be happy having an iPad I knew I could get Friday rather than waiting three weeks or trying to fight with unknown stock calls. I wouldn't have settled for white though. :)

100 in line at the 5th Avenue store tonight at 11:30pm

I too cannot believe the demand. I am in NYC tonight for work and stopped by the 5th Avenue store. At 11:30pm the line was already 100 long for whatever goes on sale at 8 am tomorrow. That to me is insane. Supposedly tihis line was on the shorter side too. It looked to me like most in line were resellers.

lets not forget too the original ipad was able to be preoredered like a month prior to release so this probably also is making it harder to find that the preorder was closer to release.

Can't you do the thing where you can check after 9PM on the Apple website to reserve one at your nearest Apple store to pick up the next day or is that just for the UK?

we have that in Canada as well and my store always has a really good selection each night. (already have mine, but looking for one for a friend)...

Is the U.S. really missing out on this awesome system?!

Unbelievable...

:( yes we are i never heard of this omg i wish we had this!

Just do what I did. I ordered the model I wanted (Black 64GB AT&T) from about 4 different retailers online (no sales tax, free shipping) and waited. I did this over the course of about 2 weeks starting Mar 17th from apple and ending early April from MacConnection.

3 days later to much shock, MacConnection (The last of my 4 orders) shipped it out. So I cancelled the orders from everyone else, and now I have my iPad2.

Win.

I should be drug out to the street and flogged....

Tuesday(my only day off) at about 1pm I went into the Apple Store in Jackson MS to look at the iMacs. I had been considering a tablet, but was planning later that day to compare the ipad to the xoom. I asked the rep about the ipad2, since I don't own any apple products. He asked if I wanted one today and I said no... I need to think about it. They had 32gb Black Wifis IN STOCK.

I being stupid and un-informed left the store, went to look at xooms, decided I wanted an ipad and called my husband on my way home to tell him that I think I wanted an ipad for our anniversary... did that sound ok? It was and now I can find them no where.

It was in my freakin hands and I let it go. I called the store this am at 9:15 and they were already sold out for the day. I live an hour from the apple store, so I just have to go sit up there next Tuesday and "hope" they got a shipment in.

Let the flogging for stupidity begin....

MacConnection was the best route for me. I placed an order for a 32gb ATT black on last friday and it was in my hands on Tuesday. No tax or shipping charges.

Is it really that hard to get one in America, still?

My plan was to pick one up on holiday next week!

We have 2 Apple stores in my area.

Both have Verizon 32 & 64 GB only in white only, and in decent quantity.

I wanted a WiFi only, but about to cave in and just buy a Verizon model if they don't get the WiFi's in soon.

They also told me they got 0 WiFi models of any spec in the week at all. :(

That's crazy. There are still people forming lines for this!? Wow!

In the past we've been able to reserve debuting products online for in store pick up and it's worked like a charm, but for some inexplicable reason, that wasn't offered with iPad 2.

Surprise to me.

I went to Walmart this afternoon for an HDMI cable & saw iPad 2's in the end case when I walked by. I had no plan to buy one, but they had an ATT 64G model in stock. Of course I had no choice fate had spoken it was required that I purchase it, LOL.

Seem easy to find in Canada, Futureshop and Bestbuy seem to get regular shipments. Again today I seen 15 or so at Bestbuy that had arrived.
