A discussion forum should be about discussion, that is not the case here anymore. It is about entitlement issues now. This has become the Apple complain department.

Exactly. It ceased being a DISCUSSION forum on 6/24. Now it's a "complain for the sake of complaining" forum." There is very little discussion going on.

My personal favorite was the poster who several days ago posted in virtually every single complaint thread something along the lines of "Call Apple and demand free stuff."

In other words, "One bad MacRumors iPhone 4 post has spoiled the entire crop..." or something like it... eh?

I really like the forums, but i agree it is getting old... I can handle skipping threads or scrolling through worthless posts. My main problem is that it is turning me into a jerk, i keep hitting reply only to type out a rude or smart ass remark only to read over it and change my mind. I try to be a helpful nice guy on forums, but sometimes the constant whining starts to change me haha...

Let's just say there's a reason why I've been lurking since 2005.

For some reason though, a little while ago I decided to actually make an account, and I am occasionally unable to keep my twitching fingers off of the keyboard and violia! I post something.

I suggest lurking more and caring less; for example the only reason I saw this thread was that it was on the main page, otherwise the iPhone sub forums are a no-go. Admittedly though, I am lurking less, as the relevant mac rumors have declined whereas the iphone/ipad news has exponentially increased, thus not meeting my interests.

I'm fairly new here to MacRumors and the forum and I'm surprised at the average level of maturity(or lack there-of) in the massive volume of posts.

I had thought Apple users are of higher class than the average population out there. Guess I was sorely wrong... and it seems I wasn't alone on that opinion. :(

I know what you mean. Sometimes I think the average age of the posters on this forum is around 12

If I were to use a metaphor to describe what I'm perceiving... I feel like everyone in this forum is stock piling rocks with one readily in hand and arms raised poised to throw... Antsy eyes on the sharp look out for any POSSIBLE sucker to throw the rock at... and... the whole mass seeing the first thrown rock... jumps in and pulverize the said victim. In many cases, MAKING up reasons just to throw the rock and laugh. Anyone trying to carry out a healthy discussion is immediately attacked.

Yea. That's how I see this community. As I said, I'm a fresh new guy here and that's my FIRST impression. I'd say that's a pretty pathetic image. Frankly, I'm not sure if I'll be returning after this iPhone 4 hype quells down. But I already know I won't be missed. :)

I'm only here to get a sense of iPhone 4 inventories and ship dates and possible tips and tricks on the products. It's kinda hard to weed through the garbage to find the informative posts, but I guess that's leg work I have to do.

Go ahead. You may pulverize me with your rocks now.;)

As you've been here since November 2008, you've lived through 2009 MacPros, yellow-screened iMacs, iPhone 3GS, Snow Leopard, the iPad, no BluRay, etc. If you've not learned to tune out the noise yet you should leave.

There are so many new people who, thanks to the iPhone, have been introduced to Apple products. The background noise is now deafening.

"Lived through" 2009 Mac Pros? What on earth does that mean? I have never had a single issue with my 2009 Mac Pro - it works beautifully and is the fastest Mac I've ever owned. My sister has a 27" iMac i7 and has no problems whatsoever. I've personally owned several iMacs between 2003 and about a year ago, never had an issue with any of them. I bought a friend a MacBook some years ago - best computer they ever had. I recently gave those same friends a new i7 iMac and it, too, works like a charm and never had any graphical or screen "glitches" as so glamorized here in these forums.

iPhone 3GS... hmmm... remind me what we all "lived through" with that one? Double the speed of the previous generation - damn that Apple! Snow Leopard... what's wrong with SL? I upgraded, my friends and family have all upgraded. None of them lost a single bit of data in the process, works as advertised or better, and nothing really to report here other than IT WORKS.

iPad... okay ya got me here. What is it that is so terrible about this wildly successful product? That maybe while it doesn't do nearly what a laptop can do, what it can do it does extremely well? The iPad is a new era for Apple and the entire computer industry. How awful.

No Blu-Ray... that's about the only one where I agree with you. But not a deal breaker by any means.

Normally, I'd be happy to dance with you, but for some strange reason I get the feeling that Steve Jobs would appear outta thin air and tell me I'm holding the rocks wrong...

I'm almost tempted to cancel my account because I'm sick of reading about all these complaints. If you don't like your phone then take it back. I've been using Apple products for many years, and I am fully confident Apple will make this right one way or another. Just have to give it a little time. The phone only came out six days ago! I'm certain Apple has every available engineer working on a solution. Lets just have a little patience please. I'm not even going to enter the forums for a while until all this non-sense blows over. See y'all in a couple weeks.

Brandon

I totally hear you.

The last time I heard so much anti-Apple sentiment from the Apple faithful was when the great Dalmation iMac came out...fugly as all heck.

And then there was the beta version of OS X...dog city.

Those both took time to get ironed out with Dalmation being left behind, despite 18 months of R and D to get that "look" embedded into plastic, and OS X taking a couple of incarnations to convince people like me to switch from a very reliable and familiar OS 9.

I hope it will only take weeks, but it will probably be more like a few months but in the whole big picture, it's not really all that bad. Really, after we can all look back on this a year later, we will see that Apple had a few very successful releases of iPhone without a hitch, and then had this iPhone 4 disaster, which it really isn't.

Think for a second if we were Dell or HP fans. :) Every second or third product out of the gates would be less than what we expected. I can only say the likes of Alien or Sony has fans as critical as fans of Apple.

I've made several comments about this. I've never been on a board this size that isn't moderated to the hilt to prevent flaming. It's been slightly better the last few days, but seriously how many times can someone just insult another user for no good reason?

It's evident even in this thread by certain users... I just don't understand why those users are allowed to be so immature and inflammatory. I've seen it on both sides (Fanboys and Haters) doing the same.

Apple users yes, iPhone users no.

The iPhone (and Mobile Me) are the only Apple products I have. I'll trust you on the above ... and it's good news if true. I can't imagine the entire forum allowing the flamefest that can fester in here so quickly! :)

Actually ... My thoughts exactly! I've seen many, many valid discussion points over the last few days where LONG TIME macforum regulars jump in and attack immediately.

I lurked instead of registering for a long time. I may go back to doing that.

"I see the Cult of Mac Force is strong in this one... good... good..."

Can you actually explain why you'd think such a thing, that somehow being an Apple owner or supporter would somehow magically bestow some higher class of being above the peons?

While I may have been a bit sarcastic in the question, make no mistake: I am asking a serious question here, and I'd like a response.

Unless of course you feel that you're above such petty discussions, that is. </sarcasm>

This wasn't directed toward me, but I'll first say I don't think that myself because 1.) I don't have a Mac, 2.) I think decent people use all sorts of computers.

But, for someone that simply follows the marketing of the product I can see how they'd get that impression. It's what Apple has been selling for awhile: "Better and more refined."

Also not the poster you're addressing, but I'll say that there have been studies indicating that Mac OS users are better educated than Windows OS users. As a whole.

Of course there are immature jerks who use all OSs.

Did I just hear your mom yell to clean your room?? People who buy Macs and Iphones tend to be different than people who just buy an Iphone. You just ooze jerk in your posts, good luck with that.

It's what Apple has been selling for awhile: "Better and more refined."

And if one takes that statement and makes it better and more refined as Apple could/would do it becomes:

"We're simply better than you, and everything we do, say, and create is better too."

Sorry... that's just how it goes.

I can rebut that with studies done by N.A.S.A. that conclusively prove beyond any shadow of any doubt absolutely and 100% confirmed that Bumblebees cannot fly. And yet they do.

Strange, eh?

I don't disagree.;)

This isn't a slam, but simply an assertion.

That very well could be true, but not because it's inherently better. But simply because the Mac has consistently had a much lower penetration into mainstream America.

In other words, Macs have always hovered around ~10% market penetration historically (though it's been growing slightly). It was only 8% as of 2008. 2009 the number was 12%.

Macs are also pricier machines comparatively to lower cost machines from Dell or HP (not to mention eMachines). That is one reason for the lower market share. The lower the cost, the wider the audience. The wider the audience, the more likely you are to have an accurate, representative sample of the entire user base.

Additionally, Macs historically have been widely used in the design and publishing fields which usually have well educated users. Windows is used in a wide variety of businesses, some that don't always require a user to be educated to the same degree (pun intended).

Lastly, it should be mentioned that a recent study showed that ~85% of Mac users also owned a Windows PC as well. :)

Well... Up until the introduction of iPhones generally Mac users were the more appreciative group of users. The apple computers were more expensive and therefore meant users had to work harder to afford the computers.. Now given the fact that iPhones are so cheap, any ( and it seems all) smug teenagers are adding their 5cents and turning this forum into a wasteland. Maturity no longer exists.

I think you said what I said, just a bit more bluntly :) :D
