You get so many points for attempting to give it back... just the effort counts so much...good luck...Karma also rewards, and a free iphone is a good start.

UPDATE 3:

Good news!

The woman called and was able to verify all the information including date, time, track number, serial number etc. We are meeting up tommorow so I can return her iPhone.

I guess everything worked out for the better. :):apple:

Maybe, she's one of the model of Victoria Secret (just kidding).

Nice job!

Dude that is so crazy. I think I'm tearing up a little.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

go back to the apple store and have them match the serial number to the purchaser. If the owner kept their receipt, they may report it as stolen and when you try to activate it you may trigger something. You'll then be telling this storyvto the police.

And? The OP has done nothing wrong. He didn't steal anything. He didn't mug someone. He found a piece of property that someone else lost. No harm, no foul.

Damage control? WTF are you talking about.

Just can't seem to let it go and be happy the original owner is getting her new iPhone back tommorow huh?

Pathetic.

Well dude, I posted awhile back about the world being full of jerks and only a few heros out there.

Guess which group you fall into now. Makes you one of the few!

If she doesn't reward you, trust me, karma will.

I think we would all be interested in knowing how she treats you tho, not necessarily that she gives you a monetary reward, but at least how grateful or not she was and what her attitude was.

Good going who ever you are;)

Damn, I do love heros:D

i would try again with that store. they must have user information and it's not like their selling a 1000 hamburgers a day. If you told them what time you found the phone at, they could narrow their receipts down.

i think it's great you tried, but I think i would try again.

Sure, another iphone is fun and all, but as a fellow mac user, I'd try to get my fellow mac guy/girl his/her iphone back again.

good luck,
keebler

Read a few posts back.

Good story! Make sure you use YOUR iPhone and take her picture, so we can see how big her smile is for getting it back!

Nice job!

Haha, possession of stolen property?

I assume you think if I stumble upon a washed up dead body on the beach while walking my dog, I am guilty of murder as well?

This thread was made to explain an experience I went through today, and now has become a source of comedy in reading posts such as your own. Thanks! :p:rolleyes:

You are in possession of stolen property considering you took it. Like it or not, it is not your property, and you kept it nonetheless. That is theft of lost or mislaid property. That's a crime. Simple as that. You clearly don't know the law, as some of us do. Some of us have a requirement to know the law, while others, such as yourself, obviously do not.

It infuriates me to no end when people try and justify their misdeeds. If you spent half as much time trying to return the property as you have spent defending your actions, you would have gotten it back to the rightful owner, or at least to the proper people or authorities.

The iPhone has a serial number. It can be linked back to you now that it is in your possession. Actually, I think you said you would give it to your sister... now won't that be a riot when she gets arrested for what you did (or didn't do)!

It's also incredible to me how many people have posted here thinking they have a clue about the law... I recall phrases such as "finder keepers" and "no harm no foul." Unbelievable. It's terribly obvious that there are many juveniles on this Forum, and many of them seem to be posting in this Thread. Of course, attitudes like this keep me employed, so I suppose I owe those of you that I referenced above a bit of thanks.

For those that posted similar opinions to mine, all I can say is I appreciate that there are, apparently, still decent people in this world. Frustrating, though, that decent people are becoming harder and harder to find.

Shut up and read the thread. Thanks. :)

I'm glad she found it, but regardless you acted pretty selfish.

oh comeon. how many of us would be tempted to keep it? i know i would be tempted like most people would be. granted i would try to return it but a part of me would hope that i wasnt able to at the same time.... that said im glad he was able to return it

i swear, people on here make themselves to be saints at times

edit: i havent read the whole thread just the fisrt couple pages when it was relatively new thread

Not Saints, per se, but decent. Certainly no one is perfect, but doing the right thing is not difficult.

Wanting to keep it is one thing... sure, it would be nice to find something like that and be able to keep it. The temptation would certainly be there. But, the decent thing to do would be to overcome (ignore) temptation and try and get it back to the proper owner. As others have said, it's not uncommon for unclaimed property to be given to the finder after a period of time.

if i found something a lot more worthy, like a wad of $20's, i wouldn't keep it.

same thing with ANYTHING.

1) i think "what if that was mine!?" - i'd be really mad, pissed, upset. i would hope someone would have turned it in.
2) KARMA

How about give her this website and have her post a message saying how happy she is she has her phone back. I want to believe you, but it is all too "perfect" that after we call you out that within hours you have gotten in touch with the store again, they now decide to take the info from you & she just happened to have bought it at that location and called and Boom now all is good. Something is still fishy and I don't trust you for all the BS you gave earlier. For her sake I hope she gets her phone.

not noble at all

For some reason, it just seems wrong that you are telling all of us about this. I think this is one of those noble deeds I would keep to myself. I also think that it is wrong for you to be putting someone else down for making such a costly mistake. Shame on you!
Agreed.

This fellow is not "noble" in any way. He made a half-hearted attempt to return it, but he didn't. Then he posts about it in a public forum and calls the poor person who lost it an idiot.

- people lose things all the time, it doesn't make them subhuman or stupid.
- he could have returned it to the transit lost and found and got a receipt
- same with police as per what someone else already said.

I'm not saying this is not a typical reaction, but "noble"? nuh-uh. not a chance.

Ask yourself what Gallahad would do. ;)
