"I just bought it!" 2011 MacBook Air Thread

Anyone know what setups of the 11 inch they are going to have in the Apple store tomorrow? I'm camped out for in the middle of Detroit and there are alot of thugs around my tent and am debating if it's worth it. I want the 11'' 256gb.

I don't think there are too many other people camping out?

Don't you think it would have been a better idea to order online, spent the $16 and probably get it before it hits the store? Is this becoming a new fashion now? To camp outside for an iPhone or iPad... ok, already goes to far in my opinion. But to camp out for an update or speed bump really goes too far.

Anyone can confirm this guy is for real?

Bought the 13 base model in Italy. Cheap and plenty of power for my needs.

to those who got the new Airs, can you confirm the IRS sensor is omitted in this refresh too? can you use the Apple Remote with it?

I just got the base 13". There's a slight scratch underneath the Apple on the outside, but I don't know if I want to take it back for such a small ding. Then again, I don't want to end up insane over it.

I just picked up the "Ultimate 11" from the 5th Avenue store. It was relatively empty, but I still had to wait a few minutes for a specialist. I can't wait until I get home tonight to start using it.

Last ozzy but of the day ;)

I just bought 13"/256 one at 8 pm in perth - mac store closes at 8 pam -, so the last most likely the last new air for the day in Australia.

so far pretty happy - considering I am coming from a 17" macbook pro. I can live the screen real-estate, seems snappy enough. have to throw some logic pro at it and see where we can go, then my 17" either goes to my girlfriend, my brother or gets sold -- in that order , .. ;).

think the mac airs seem to go the right way - I think. not perfect, but good enough to make me happy. ( 8gb and turbo is maybe too much to ask, ... )

let's what lion can ... and also I wonder what thunderbolt acc. we gonna see - so far that is pretty poor, but more or less expected.

cheers

Yeah, I'm in Detroit and that guy is just messing with you. The four apple stores are in pretty nice malls in good cities (Ann Arbor, Troy, Novi and Sterling Heights).

Ordered the base 13" model yesterday online (yay company discounts!). Downtown Chicago store didn't have it in stock. I paid for the overnight as well, but sadly I didn't get shipping confirmation until 1am this morning. So I guess that I won't see it until Friday.

Oh well, it will make my Friday go by a lot faster!

Really? Where did you buy it at?

Ordered yesterday with overnight shipping at around 9am PDT (according to Apple's order status).

Haven't received a shipping confirmation email from Apple yet, but as I've refreshed the order status page just about every hour since I've ordered it, I've just noticed that it has shipped!

It shipped today and is coming via FedEx with a delivery before 10:30am tomorrow (Friday). Awesome!

Just take it back. It would drive me crazy lol.

So you ended up going base 13"?
I'm debating on which one to get after work.
I think it'll be a game time decision.

But a larger trackpad, better battery life, more GHz, larger screen for $100 seems like something I can't pass up.

For me, the estimated date I'll receive my 11" MBA with 256GB SSD is 2nd of August. :(

I didn't bother going for the i7. I don't need to wait for reviews to tell me that the battery life will be worse with the i7. I suppose they would be interesting to read in order to quantify the effect, but anything less than 4:45 (or whatever Laptop Mag measured) isn't good for an ultraportable, IMO. I was hoping for 5.5 - 6 hours during general use, but oh well. You can't have it all. :)

The battery should be roughly the same. The i7 and i5 have the same 17watt TDP chips. They are both ULV. The next step up is intel LV chips at 25watts which were no used in MBAs.

Edit: I believe these are the CPUs being used in the 13" Airs. Think the i7 has a typo in its name sayings 1.7 when lower down it says its frequency is actually the 1.8 chip.

Just walked into the 5th ave store and picked up a 13in 1.7. Thing is awesome. Now I'm just twiddling my thumbs until migration assistant is done. Taking forever over wireless but whatever.

I'm already happy with my purchase because the 11 inch screen looks so small next to the 13. This computer is awesome.

Sorry to hear that. This is the kind of thing that terrifies me. I will likely ask to open it in the store before I leave just to be sure.

cool! yea i cancelled the 11" order. I have to go and see it in person what it looks like side by side on display between the 13" and 11".

I can't make your decision for you, but having the 11 and 13 next to each other, the 13 is definitely the better option if you want it to be your main machine. If it is simply to drag around go 11, but the extra screen height is a major difference between the two. And for your main computer that might be a big consideration. Also a bit more wrist area and larger trackpad makes it feel a little easier. But I have long fingers so my palms sit far off the key lard and I found that I would put my wrist and proximal hand on the desk off of the wrist rest area.

Yeah, but TDP isn't max power consumption, nor does it factor in the turbo boost.

And after looking at my order confirmation email, it looks like I'll be receiving this thing on 11th of August (not the 2nd of August like Apple Store predicted before I purchased it). What's the point of including an "Estimated delivery date" feature on your website when it's completely wrong?

The only reason it's an issue is because I'm going on vacation on the 13th (Saturday), so if they're late by more than 1 day, I won't get it for 10 days and it'll sit AT WORK!!! There's a 1 day buffer, which isn't ideal.

It doesn't seem like they were that well prepared for this, but I don't know how you prep for a laptop release when compared to an iPad/iPhone. But it is frustrating.

Downtown Chicago stores didn't have the product and weren't aware when they would have it yesterday. And shipping confirmations were way late. I expect we'll see a lot of date pushing if you didn't get next day/2 day/

I was under the impression the TDP was the max wattage the CPU would use which is the same for both. Although at idle I could see maybe the i5 using say 5 watts and i7 using 6watts. Maybe the i5 never quite hits the 17watts too.

I just noticed my card was charged the 1300 I put on it at 8:59pm EST last night and then AGAIN at 9:02PM EST for 100 dollars. Both said pre-auth to apple store online. Not sure why they would charge the full amount before the 100 dollar one. Only supposed to be 1300 on that card max. Anyway, does that mean mine shipped last night? It still says prepared for shipment on my order status though. Thought they don't charge till it ships.
