I know many people really like it. It just didn't workout for me. I wanted it to very badly, but the Logitech Create has been fantastic for what I need. I have to have backlighting. I would have kept the Apple keyboard if it was backlit. I don't care too much about the shortcut keys, although I do like them.

So, what does the Lightning to SD do for you? I don't know if it would help me at all. I would love to be able to move things back and forth from my iPad Pro to an SD card, but I have hear the adaptor doesn't work that way.
It does NOTHING for me at all! I haven't used an SD card in years! There's just this compulsion I have to want ALL the adapters!

12.9 was inviting when I last saw that at the apple store, I'm just afraid it'll gather dust in my drawer after a few weeks just like the previous three before them.

Get something like this then

I have a different brand, but will get this one as well.

I am VERY interested in this. So the app works with the drive so I can move stuff back and forth?

It does. I have one showing up tomorrow, so will let you know more, once I play around with it. I already downloaded their app to check out. When I was in the documents app and did an open in the Sandisk app it pointed out the drive was not attached, but asked if I wanted to continue anyway. The usb3.0 will be nice for some of the larger media files I move to the iPad for work.

I have a PQI one, but this one is supposed to be the best app/interface. The way they all seem to work is with their own proprietary app....the PQI one, you plug it in and it prompt you to open the app, you can use open in from the drive to the app you want.

I too downloaded the app but I haven't figured out how to point other apps in that direction. Would you elaborate a little?

Here's kind of a hedonist, dumb question, but how does the 12.9" device do for folks when laying around watching a show (specifically GoT... :)). Do you hold it up in front of your face? Sit up more and hold it on your lap? What do you find is the most comfortable position? I'm asking because like a lot of folks on this thread I have a lot of these devices around, though want to upgrade to one of the Pros and am looking for some real world feedback on my braindead usage scenario (as opposed to the real work scenarios which I am convinced will be great with either the 9.7 or 12.9)... Thoughts? My apologies if this has been addressed on another thread I haven't seen, but the folks on this one seem like my kind of people...

BTW - love the confessions of fellow Appleholics! Just so I can be included in the club: rMBP 15", MBr (silver), iPhone 6S+ (SG), iPhone 5S (gold), iMac 5K 27", iPad Mini 3 LTE (SG), iPad Air2 (SG), Apple Watch SS... And that's just MY stuff - wife and kids have more... And I just sold my MBA 13" "extra" machine literally yesterday... Oh, and I have 2 Apple TVs, 2 Thunderbolt displays, and a Mac Mini I use as mostly a dedicated Bootcamp Windows machine... Wow, it's even worse than I thought...

I have a different brand, but will get this one as well.

I have a USB drive that I use with my iOS devices, I have the iStick brand. It was a Kickstarter project, but they evolved and you can buy them now and now you also have other brands to choose from. The downside to the devices is that you do need to use the app for the device for file management, so they all have their own apps.
I mainly use mine to store extra video content for trips and then as I watch the video during the trip, I then remove them and replace with my trip photos as an extra backup location. I import photos to my iPad from my iPhone using the lightening to USB adapter and from my Sony TX-30 camera via the lightening to SD card adapter with a SD to micro SD adapter as well. Then I backup my photos to Apple photo stream and Flickr if I have wifi access, but also to the iStick drive as well.
You can use the drives for other file types too, but I tend not to bother much since I put them directly on my iPad anyway.

I also have a similar drive which is not USB, but is wifi instead and I prefer this drive over the iStick even. I have a 2TB Seagate Wireless drive. Benefits over the USB kind is that I can use pretty much any of my file management programs to directly access the drive, just connect to the wifi of the drive. In the drives app, allow it access to your home wifi and you have Internets access too. Another benefit is that myself and my kids can all stream video directly from the drive at the same time without any issues. I house a lot more file types on this drive. It also backs up photos and it also syncs all or selected online storages. The drive syncs my Dropbox automatically when it's connected to my home wifi so I have complete offline access to my Dropbox as long as I connect to the drive via wifi (don't need Internet to access the Dropbox files since they are on the drive).

Preference is for the 9.7 in bed since its lighter to hold and doesn't whack me in the face as hard when I fall asleep. I had my 12.9 whack me just one time so far, just a couple of nights ago. I used the Smart Cover with it, lay on my back, had the iPad on top of my chest. The other way, and definitely the safer of the ways, is to lay on my side and lay the iPad next to me. You can use the Smart Cover here too or rest it against a pillow.

Always on my side, with the ipad locked in horizontal but placed vertically against a pillow. This is how I used the 9" ipads too, whether for watching videos or internet and messaging.

This is for a file stored in Documents(should be about the same for other apps):

Find the square with an up arrow

Scroll to the app you want to open/move the file to. If you can't find the app tap on the more icon (arrow on next picture shows it)

This part is if you had to tap on the more icon.....Use the 3 bars on the right side to move the app you are wanting to 'open in' up closer to the top so it shows up in the bar. Tap done and select the app.

Raising my hand as another member of the Apple Addicts Society! :) It all started back in 2005 when I bought my first iMac....and after that my first iPod. When the iPhone was launched I was in line that first day, even though none of us was really sure what we were getting. The day the first iPad was launched I was there....and because I realized later that I really wanted and needed one with cellular data, when that one was launched a few weeks later once again I was in line....

Jumping to the present time, I'm sitting here with my two iPads (12.9 and 9.7) and my iPhone near me on the workstation as I type on my 2015 15" rMBP, Apple watch on my wrist. This machine works well as a desktop replacement, perched on a stand and using the newest Apple BT keyboard, track pad and mouse. The 13" rMBP is in another room, where it lives most of the time unless I'm taking it with me on a trip. I use that machine with headphones at night very often, especially when watching movies or playing music, so that I don't bother the people in the condo unit above mine. I still prefer using an rMBP for watching movies, although the 12.9 iPad is also great for this purpose, too. I tried an Apple TV back a couple generations ago, realized I hardly ever used it so gave it to a friend and haven't bothered getting the latest version. I rarely watch TV at all, or even movies on the TV. I had an iPad Mini 2, but gave that away once I had the iPhone 6 Plus last yer and found that I didn't really need to carry the iPad Mini with me all the time any more. I much prefer the 9.7 size for everyday use and found that the Mini was just a little too small for my aging eyes.

Using the iPads in bed.....most of the time I use the 9.7, but once in a while I'll use the larger one. In both cases I usually sit up, leaning against a Bedrest thingy and a pillow, propping the iPad against my legs. Sometimes I'll turn to the side and put the iPad down on the bed, too. Works great! If I'm out on my deck in nice weather I use my 12.9 iPad on a stand on the table. I haven't used my pencil much yet for drawing but have found it very useful for replacing a finger from time to time, eliminating "fat finger syndrome" on small icons.

I love all of my devices and each gets plenty of use in various situations. Can't imagine life without any of them now!

Well this is pretty cool! I have been thinking about some external storage for my iPads this might be just what I need. I can carry what I need with me on this and if I need to access it from my iPad I can just plug it in. My issue is this... I have a lot of large files that I use for my classes and I keep time on an external SSD that I have plugged into my MacBook at all times. If I am at work and need one, I access my MacBook using Splashtop and then move the file from the SSD to the Google Drive. Then I download the file from google drive onto my work computer. It's a lot of steps. I used to have all of these large files in my iCloud Drive, but then I learned that stuff in iCloud Drive is stored on your computers hard drive. My laptop doesn't have a huge hard drive so this was problematic. I moved the large files to an SSD and took them out of the cloud. I would really love it if iCloud Drive would truly house this stuff only in the cloud instead of also storing it on the computers physical drive. I guess I could just get a large flash drive and keep it all there and then I wouldn't have to worry about it...

Anyway, thank you for the pictures. I might buy one of these tomorrow and see how I like it. I hear you can play music and videos stored on the drive right in the app. Sounds like a good solution for people that want to watch movies on their devices but don't have the space for those files available on the device.

Really enjoyed reading this thread. The only reason I do not have both sizes is because I purchased the 12.9" first and love it. I can't see me grabbing for the 9" when the 12" is sitting next to it. I just love the screen real estate. However, I'm not shy on other Apple options as I also have an iPhone 6, MacBook air, iMac, iPod, and 3 Apple TV's. I guess I want them all too. lol

I am gushing along with you :p but only get the devices that are practical for my use case. Apple gadgets are way too pricey to be accumulating dust, I ve got my eye on the iMac

If you have $200+ In gift cards I say go for it! Maybe I am an enabler, but the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is really wonderful. I struggled for months with the decision before I bought it and I love it more than any other apple product I own. I recommend it to everyone I know. Do it! Sunday will be a great day for you!
Well after jumping into my car - trying to see if Best Buy and / or Target would match the Amazon price..if they did, I would have bought it on the spot, then use my gift cards on Amazon for the Pencil, other accessories. (I see there are some decent looking 3rd party keyboards for the Pro that work just as well, if not better than the pricy Apple keyboard)

BUT...they refused since the iPad Pro 12in was not actually sold by Amazon..oh well their loss. By the time I got home, there was 1 iPad left at the 695.00 price sitting in my shopping cart..BUT when I got to the check out it showed $710.00 ( I know, whats 15 bucks?) It kicked to another seller with an increased price. So I just backed out. Could be a blessing though, the review I saw posted for one this week, the iPad Pro 12in they received Monday was a broken disaster..that could have been mine eck.

Anyway, many of them on Amazon this week have been 700-720 for the 32gb..maybe the price increase is because of Mothers Day...maybe?? I can wait, I'll see if the price drops to 690 again next week or 2 then pull the trigger. Still also weighing pros and cons of the 12 in to the newer 9in Pro. The camera is not impressive on the 12in...it doesn't have "True Tone" which is not a big deal..it's not a benefit for photographers & I use a DSLR 99.9% of the time, sometimes my iPhone 6+ for photo/video-time lapse shooting. I just want the BIG screen.

Oh my god I love you!!! You have me beat. I am going to try to list all the things I've had, but it will take some thinking. And yes, it's a sickness, but there's many things that are worse!

LOL, it is a "sickness" that will eventually bankrupt me if I'm not careful heheh. Looking at new iPads, I still have 7 watch bands for my Apple Watch in my basket (I already have 5 watch bands for this thing)
...then I end up on B&H Photo...they have a 27" iMac 5K on sale for 1699.00 [On sale, Reg Price 2299.00]...so theres another darn temptation.)

Ok guys, I am putting this here because there is no one in my life I can talk to about this. Everyone thinks I'm a crazy person. I have an iPad Pro 12.9 that I love. I have it in a Logitech Create case and I love the case too. I also have an iPad mini 4 that I love, and I have an iPhone 6s Plus. I keep everything backed up with an old but awesomely reliable MacBook Air that just serves as a desktop now and doesn't leave the house. I can access it remotely with splash top anytime I need it.

Now I am about two days away from getting the new 9.7! What is wrong with me? I love all three iPad sizes and have uses for all three of them. I gave my son my iPad Air 2 when I got my 12.9 Pro and I miss the size. Now that there is a new one out that I can use my pencil on I am excited to try it.

When I went into the Apple Store in 2007 and touched the first iPhone, something came over me that I have not been able to shake. It was just magic to me in a way my MacBook wasn't. I still get that feeling when I open and set up a new device. I know that iOS has some limitations but I love it and love devices that run it.

So... You can berate me for making a useless thread, fuss at me for over consumption of iPads, or gush right along with me.

Just needed a place to say this. Thanks!
Perhaps you are unhappy and the iPads are your way of compensating for something lacking? Or perhaps you just love love love Apple!! If you can afford it why not! Life is short!

Lspice & everyone else with both iPad Pros, I'm curious now as to which iPad you find yourself using the most?
Does it come down to task or location?

I have both and switch between them multiple times each day, but for me it's somewhat of a case of still trying to figure out which one I like more. I think I'm crazy in this way, I don't need to make the decision, I have both, but for some reason I keep trying to work out which one is better for me. If I'm using the 12.9 and read about people loving their 9.7 then I will reach for my 9.7 and if I'm on the 9.7 and I read about people loving their 12.9 then I will reach for my 12.9. See, I'm crazy. Is it just me?

I'm going away next weekend and was wondering which one to take, but now I just think that I will take both. I'm driving, it's not like I need to travel lighter or anything.
Anyway, just curious of which iPad you are all gravitating to more and for what reasons?

I find myself using the 9.7 pro far more often, for browsing around the house and for taking notes at work, but I'm glad that I kept the 12.9 every time I use it for consuming media at home or on holiday: films, comics, YouTube etc. The 12.9 is marginally better at taking notes because the size of it is closer to an actual pad, so I use it when taking notes at home.

They both have a place in my heart, but the 9.7 gets the most use so far.

Thank you for your usage info. I love the 12.9" when I am using it, but also like the 9.7 for portability. My 9.7 has 256GB, while my 12.9 has 128GB, so I feel like I should maybe make the 9.7 my main iPad, meaning that it will have all of my games in it....while the 12.9 would then only have the games that sync via cloud so as the progress syncs between iPads. I guess that this is one of the reasons that I feel like I'd like to pick which iPad is my main iPad. Size and portability also come into play and I'm having a hard time deciding. Maybe I should just decide not to decide. ;)

What a fun thread. I am not of this group as I have to pay my way through college for the next two years but I would like to pick up both. The 12.9" as a potential computer replacement and the 9.7" as a portable commute killer, slightly lesser work horse. I think the file system is the only thing holding me back beyond the fact that I just replaced my 2010 iMac. It is good to see folks have found workarounds for the file system though.

Best Buy is currently having a $100 off sale on the 12.9". Not enough of a price cut for me, but a decent cut (or less if you go open box.)

I used to have more, but presently my retired 2010 iMac, the 2013 iMac and an iPhone 6s.

I see them as work (12.9) and play (9.7). I have my 12.9 in front of me all day at work. It is my primary computer.

When I get home I use the 9.7 for all of my entertainment. I only get out the bigger one if I need to do something work related. I have gotten to the point where I don't even use my phone all that much. I use my mini 4 to watch the news and Netflix while I get ready for work in the morning and for reading before bed. I feel that each one serves a purpose and I am happy to have them. Obviously if my family fell into financial hardship I could let them go, but for now I am enjoying them.
