i know hommie, and its no disrespect i just think there is more to it than that. I believe you that it said it was being optimized. Could have just been a system glitch and he really shouldnt have.. for all we know he had been using hundreds of GBs of unauthorized tethering so verizon decided to throttle him as a one off...

- my point to nizmoz was that with the exception of yours, all the other claims have not been legitimized. they could be so may reasons why they are experiencing slower speeds.

Oh, I'm sure. I just wanted to share at least how Verizon supposedly treats throttling. They claim up in down even to its employees that they don't. But in the end, it's the same thing, regardless of the reason they want to pick.

This is why I won't ever be switching View attachment 368902

are you throttled? I can get that speed on 2 bars of verizon lte in my house.

----------

You talk about having signal everywhere with Verizon - my question is... is the signal LTE or 3G? If LTE, then ATTs 3G/H+ don't matter.

Also if on LTE, your speed won't matter as long as you're hitting enough to do things on your phone without feeling a slow down. Pretty much a non-issue on LTE.

Verizon caring about customers? I'm not sure any of the phone companies care about us - just our money. I'm a loyal Verizon customer and their store/phone support is great. I've heard the same from ATT people. However, I still feel like both companies want to bend us over.
Most of the time it is LTE, in areas there isn't I have a reliable 3g signal to back up on. When I was on att their 3g was hit or miss. When I wanted to show someone a video in class I would be waiting a few minutes for it to load while someone on the verizon iphone 4 would have it up in less than half the time. Both on 2-3 bars of signal on 3g.

Discounts come with strings. If you're comfortable with them (2-year contract, throttling, no FaceTime over cellular), awesome. I'd rather pay full price, keep my unlimited data, and never have to worry about throttling or caps. I use my phone on Verizon how, when and as much as I want.

YMMV

plus just add a line for $10 a month.. switch that phone to the unlimited line.. IMO its worth paying $199+240 over 2 years.

#1 reason i stick with ATT and not VZW, is it takes literally 30 seconds to switch phones, just pop a sim in another phone and go...i hated that with VZW i had to go online or call to get it changed, and when i switch from a feature phone to regular phone on ATT my plans stay the same, on VZW i would get extra charges...VZW nickles and dimes the crap out of their customers...ATT gave me a $250 credit so i could get the iphone 5...ATT has treated me way better than VZW or sprint ever did, and i dont plan on every changing...plus i have unlimted data and even when throttled the speeds are faster than verizon's 3g speeds...

I've had AT&T for personal use, Verizon for work, for 10+ years. I can honestly say AT&T is a better carrier. From call quality, customer service, and to data speeds. I travel all over the country, and AT&T's network is far superior than Verizon. Verizon has huge speed issues, AT&T's network is consistently at least 4 times faster.

Five years ago that was true, but Verizon has made tremendous gains. I have AT&T for work and Verizon for personal and I much prefer Verizon's network as I travel the country.

In my neck of the woods in Philly I would say that AT&T and VZW are equal in voice and LTE coverage. In regards to data speed AT&T has a slight edge but not significant. When we were in NYC I was surprised how well my iPhone 5 performed there because of all the issues I've read about AT&T and NYC.

When I had my 4/4S AT&T data was much faster than VZW. Now it's a more level playing field with the LTE iPhone.

I was extremely happy with AT&T service, customer service and my FAN discount. I also have retention features that are important to me. Now I'm not extremely happy with AT&T but I'm not saying they suck, I'm in between now because I got throttled and my other 2 line got throttled for the 1st. And it totally sucks. We never got throttled before even though we should have. On my iPhone 5 it's wasn't hard to get to 5GB before my billing cycle ends :(

Yeah, I don't see that with Verizon. Verizon's LTE is equivalent maybe to AT&T's 3G, that's my experience anyways. And it's pretty consistent throughout the nation.

I did the ATT to VZW switch myself and have to admit its been a mixed bag. Fundamentally its great to have LTE speeds. However, the whole voice/data thing is a drag. I'm frankly stunned at decisions Apple and VZW both made that led up to the current situation. (VZ sticking to a model that requires flipping back and forth between 3/4g when VOLTE is available per VZs own testing and MetroPCS implementation and Apple just ignoring the issue).

However I do see some pluses. First I can finally get a signal at work - my office is in the side of a hill where ATT can't reach but my cube neighbors told me VZ did. Second I can finally get bandwidth in local crowded areas (at my local mall for the last year its been a world with 4-5 bars but no response due to crowding). Third the charts are very clear - VZ is very far ahead on LTE deployment. Forth I'm happy to free of ATT's continual squeeze on my so-called unlimited plan with no tethering, no facetime, and throttling.

Guess we'll have to see what happens in 2013 as ATT catches up on deployments and VZ hopefully deploys true VOLTE.
