These threads just baffle me. OP and the rest of the people complaining about the brick or different cable. You were charging your previous iPhone, use the same freaking cable and brick you did for that iPhone with the 12. This is not hard, and I don’t care how old your iPhone is (unless your using an iPhone 4, which no one is), you have all the cables and bricks you need. The complaining when a new iPhone comes out gets so old.
I didn't know old cable worked with it. Apple changed iPad connections at one point (or more) so I thought that was case. Please refer me to the person who is all knowing . . .

Which category? My parents are the average consumer who knows nothing about which charging cable came in the box. They just know it takes the same cable they already have.
Into the category that might not really think that the cables and power adapters that they have would be fine to use given that a different cable is now included. Yes, certainly many might not think too much about it and just use their old cables, but that certainly doesn't mean that there won't be plenty who might not necessarily realize that and think that they need to use the included cable (and therefore need to get a power adapter that works with it). Anecdotal experiences/examples of some that don't run into something like that don't rule it out from happening to others, especially given the large consumer base and a whole range of how different typical consumers approach things.

If your into tech, how did you not know this? Also the cable in the box has the same connection as your X does.

I am not saying there aren’t people that would do that, but people that post on macrumors on the regular should have no issues with knowing what cables can be used. That’s who I am talking about. The person that upgrades every 4 years, maybe not.

Seems like it can even apply to some that post on online discussion forums (and certainly can apply even more so outside of those).

Ultimately, different people can approach different things in a different manner at different times and/or under different circumstances (for potentially different reasons too), that's basically human nature.

But you have extensive experience of technology, according to you 🤨.

Any technical experienced person would be able to see that old cables can be used.
I was thrown off when I saw the same connector on both sides of the cable. Looked smaller,

Yes but coming here and complaining saying you spent $1000 on an iPhone it should come with a brick. That’s a lot different than “ I didn’t know what cable I should use”

IMAGINE, though, what this thread would be like if Apple had changed BOTH ends of the cable to USB-c this year like they did with the iPad Pros? I giggle just thinking about it.

Right, I said that same thing. I would kind of understand some of the grips there from people who only upgrade every 3 or 4 years. They wouldn’t know what kind of brick or cable to get.

It's not the same connector on both ends. It's lightning on the end that plugs into your phone, and USB-c on the other end.

The iPad Pros, however, are USB-c on both ends.

Seems like both can be related if the removal of the power adapter and the inclusion of a different new cable happens at the same time. This thread is a fairly good example of that.

Ok I won’t bother any longer. Most people complaining here are just here to bitch. It’s not really the unknown of what to use, it’s just because they want to bitch about Apple.

I know the difference, simple auto correct. If your posting here on macrumors, you should know what cable you need. You have been around long enough.
you're posting . . .I always correct auto correct myself. Ok, I'll find a mac forum I'm more suited to. Thanks.

And then there are examples of something else that's involved.

For the car yes (just discovered). Ok so can use old cable. I don't see the point of not having USB on other end of cable. Is it heavier? Give me a break Apple
The entire industry is shifting to USB-C as the new standard type of system connector. So, one day, no matter the type of device, if it has a USB port, it will probably be a USB-C port.

Nevertheless, the prior comments about using your existing Lightning <-> USB cable are sound.

You more than welcome here, but you seem to be trolling. You have been around the forums for over a year. Did you not see any of the news about the new phones?

Using the old bricks off of iphones prior to the 11 pros are not fast charges like what was in the box for the 11 pros. I don’t understand why people defend apple removing the complete charging system from their new phones. It’s fine that you’re buying it and love apple but their is no defense. If apple wanted to lessen the carbon foot print, they could have included a flat gift card in the box so that people could have bought a charger.
