as for fit, it fits it nice. there is a little button on the bottom right you click and it pops open the sides for easy removal and install, just put phone in and push sides closed. my civic si shakes alot, tires I think but it sits nice and snug.

it can rotate but not sure how far to either side. I did swivel it and rotate it os its faces how I want it.

I doubt Ill be replacing it anytime soon, very happen with it. Also it has a little foot on the bottom that once you place the vent arms to secure it, you lower the foot so it braces the whole holder.

You swiveled it as in you turned the iPhone so it was horizontal? Like when you watch YouTube videos or movies or whatnot?

As promised, a quick review:

I installed this Arkon vent mount in a 1997 Subaru Legacy. It took a bit of dexterity to get hold both clips open and find a place/position where it would work correctly with the vent, and for a while I was certain that it wouldn't work at all. Once in place though, it was clearly secure...the clips have a bit of a hook on the back that will keep the mount from sliding off the vent accidentally. I expected a fair amount of rattle while in use because it does feel a bit loose, but instead it was quiet through a short drive. It'll get a longer test tomorrow.

Fit: iPhone 4 with bumper fit fine. The fit is snug, but probably not completely foolproof. I doubt it would move in a crash (or even a hard stop) assuming you've tightened it down as far as it will go. But no guarantees. This is not a custom fitted bracket, there's nothing but tension and foam to keep the phone in place. Still, it seems to hold fairly well.

Swivel: the swivel lock will allow 360 degree movement and can be locked in the landscape position for use with navigation software.

Charging: my iPhone 4 OEM cable barely fits between the support feet when they're cranked all the way open. In fact, it takes a bit of pushing to wedge it in there. Once connected, of course, it's fine. My barely larger Xtreme Mac car charger cable doesn't fit at all, but then again, it's not shaped to fit the bumper either. I foresee a Dremel tool in my future.

All in all, a surprisingly good vent mount for $13. I think I'll skip the ProClip for now unless I encounter a major issue with this one over the coming week or two.

I have a Belkin Grip Vue on my iphone 4 and would
like to let everyone know that the Griffin Autopilot's
Sync cable does barely fit through the Belkin
Grip Vue case into the Sync port on my iphone 4.
I do get the two warnings from the iOS 4.0 about connecting a non Apple made product to the iphone 4, but it works great! I don't hear any engine noise either. I have it installed in a 2001
Saturn SL2 car. I'm expecting my Ped 3-Form
to come in the mail in the next 5 days. So, I'll report back with an update and pictures.

Well the news from Proclip isn't good. Here's their response to my question about whether they'll be making a holder that holds the iP4 in a bumper as well as charges it.

Hi Mike,

This is what we are doing regarding the bumper situation.

The bumper case is more rounded compared to the other cases and has no backing in the case. This design needs to have a separate holder. The other problem we have with the bumper case is the size of the Charging opening. Our cables(Griffin) and other 3rd party charging cables do not fit in the bumper case opening. The only cable that fits is the original USB cable that came with the iPhone 4. We have a holder that is not adjustable but is the perfect fit for the iPhone with a bumper case.

We are redesigning our charging cables and pass-through connector to have these kind of holders available for the iPhone 4 with Bumper Case in the near future. This re-design process can take 6-8 weeks.

I too have Proclip and LOVE IT.
I have the adjustable witht he screws in the back for adjustment.
It fit my 3GS with a case and it fits my iPhone 4 with bumper.

The good thing about Proclip is you can buy a different head and accomodate any product for the same car. Or if you change cars get the mount you want specific for your car. I have the vent mount in my 2009 WRX and it does not cover the vent. It sits a few inches out so the air still flows through.
In the summer keeps the phone cool.

It looks like part of the car.

I just need a cable that goes to the charger with power and audio so I dont have to plug the bottom cable for charrging and the headphone cable for sound.
I want 1 cable to plug in bottom to get power and sound at once like the apple dock.

Does anyone have pics of the 30 pin cable connector on the hard wired Proclip? The site says they plug into the side but doesn't have pictures of how that looks/works.

I have the pro clip for the 3G and I've been very pleased with it. Not damaging the dashboard, not scratching the phone, and holding the phone securely, and good set of choices regarding positioning and case/no case options are all far more important than getting something cheap.

Very interested to see you're using the 3GS holder with the iPhone 4 with bumper. I've been using the holder without bumpers and its a bit loose and had been worried bumpers would make it too big. Now apple are giving away bumpers I'll definitely try it.

Edit: actually I have the 3GS version for the bare phone, so maybe it won't fit the iPhone 4 with bumper.

The holder works if you have the proclip mount for an iPhone 3G in a case, but it WILL NOT charge, it's physically impossible unless you modify the bumper case. As for making the holder hold the iP4 with bumper, just place it in the holder, loosen the four screws and push the two sides tight against the phone and tighten the screws. Don't worry if it's too tight because the screws will loosen when you pull the Ip4 out and push it back in.

My 3GS holder is for the bare phone which loosely holds the bare iPhone 4 (but securely enough to not be a problem). I have the version without any connectors, so I just plug a charger in when needed. For music I have an iPod classic in the glove box. The iPhone connects for hands free with Bluetooth.

Might need to decide what to do regarding cases first, then change the holder if necessary. Gets complicated because I also want to be able to use a dock at home.

Has there been any word when the TomTom kit is going to be updated to fit the iPhone 4?

I've seen a lot of mounts and the TomTom still seems like the best choice for me. I like the ProClips but I love how the TomTom is a lot of **** all in one.

Gah. Proclip is way too expensive. I am still looking for just a fair priced windshield mount made specifically for an iPhone 4 with no case. Arkon is nice but I would rather not mess with the spring loaded system. Soooo hard to find!

Hopefully more of them get updated soon. I just bought a Griffin WindowSeat for my 3GS for $13 and I really like it. It took some screwing around to get it to mount in a useful place, but having a mount is really nice, especially with Navigon.

Yeah I was looking at them today seem really nice. Wish it was updated.

Just picked this up though. Just to hold me over.

this weekend i modded my proclip to fit my iphone4 with bumper. i filed down some of the plastic surrounding the dock and the inside of the bumper a bit (where the connector inserts). it functions perfectly and no problems.

Just to clarify, does the arkon mount work with the bumper on an iPhone 4?

The Arkon mount should work with any case or skin--it uses spring-loaded fingers on the top and bottom of the phone to hold it in place. Watch the video on the Arkon site and it will be very clear.

I just got mine a few days ago. The lower feet have to be adjusted wide enough that they cover the lower speaker and microphone in order to fit a charging connector in, and the upper feet have to be fairly narrowly spaced to avoid covering the noise-cancellation microphone (I'll probably need to use a BT earpiece in the car instead of the speakerphone) and the sleep button, but that's really my only gripe. It works just fine with my phone in a Belkin Grip Vue, though I do need to hold the mount with one hand and insert/remove the phone with the other, as the spring tension is quite strong.

Pro Tip: when inserting or removing your phone, push the lower feet down enough to let the phone+case to completely clear the pads on the upper feet, so that they don't wear against your case.

Your product requires the iPhone to be taken out of the case adding more steps. With the ProClip, you have the ability to just dock the iPhone (2g, 3g, 3gs, 4) into a holder with any case you want. There is also a pass-thru port on the bottom for attaching to your car's AC charger. I use bluetooth to stream music to my cars stereo, to answer calls, and use as a GPS system. This is the best solution for quick entry and removal from the car.

I am interested in using bluetooth to strem music, answer calls and use gps. How easy is it? What stereo do you have in your car?
