I will order as well next week:
27" 5K display
- 4 ghz i7
-16 G Ram or 32G Ram ??
-512 SSD
-Amd 295x

Just curious is the reason you did not choose 1 TB SSD as well is because of price?

I think in general, with desktops, most people would be fine with 512gb (and even 256gb if they aren't dual booting) and you can just slap on a thunderbolt storage device. I decided to go for 1tb myself because I have 512gb on my rMBP and saw that I had 30gb left so... I figured right out the gate, I'd be cramped for space. I plan to have a Windows partition (my current partition is 100gb, I may bump that up to 200gb) and although I store a lot of stuff external to my laptop, it'll be nice not to worry about space for a little while. But if someone was asking me what they need for a desktop, I'd think most people wouldn't need more than 512, many would be fine with 256gb.

After placing my order, I've been thinking and thinking..

How likely or how soon is it possible that apple redesigns the iMac appearance?

They didn't do it with this one, the chances are it would be 2 years out I would think if they did.

I was waiting for this for a long time. I am happily upgrading my early 2011 iMac with:

27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display

$2,649.00

With the following configuration:

• 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
• 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
• 3TB Fusion Drive
• AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2GB GDDR5
• Apple Magic Mouse
• Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
• Accessory Kit

I'm really excited to get my hands on this. It was really expensive but it'll be my main desktop for at least 5 years.

Has anyone that ordered one had it shipped yet?

The first ones are probably going to ship this week-end or Monday. But I'll bet they will be already well on their way when Apple updates the tracking !

I got the shipping email for my sister's laptop the day it was delivered !

I don't think they will ship this weekend. There is a process it goes through , first it is in "processing Mode" Then they charge your credit card then it switches to "Prepared for Shipment Mode" Then about 1 day later or less you will get a " Shipped Mode" along with a email with tracking info usually from Apple stating your order has shipped. But as you say Apple can get behind in the orders. However these shipments done on Oct 16, 17th have been the most organized that Apple has done in recent years.:)

And you got confirmation of this where exactly? For what is available as of Today - current day and time it is the highest you can go with a iMac at this time. So in my book my order is a Top of the Line iMac with Retina Display. ;)

I got the fully pimped one. I mainly do audio production on mine so while I don't need the 5K display, it will be really nice to stare at that all day!

I originally ordered with 1TB Fusion, and then said... hmm... and reordered with 3TB Fusion. Going to slap my 32GB Corsair Vengeance from my 2012 iMac into it when it arrives. :)

Returned my previous generation iMac..Ordered retina iMac

I originally ordered iMac on 1st October thinking retina iMac will be too expensive whenever it launches. Apple surprised me here. I returned it yesterday and ordered a retina one. Plus, I got a free Magic trackpad .. Apple is the BEST!!

Congratulation on your purchase!

If I may ask... audio production as in... Cubase? Logic? Pro Tools? What kind of interface will you be using with your iMac?

I ordered mine today. I consider myself a home user, but I am increasing how much i do photography with a child on the way and better equipment. I view this purchase as an investment. I had a custom mac before sold it for cheap to a friend, since they take up so much room in my apartment. Currently using a 2012 rMBP and I am afraid that going with anything less than retina Ill notice from the chair. Starting to notice pixels now even on the television.
My BTO:

I went went with the wired keyboard and mouse since i had a set of wireless trackpad/mouse/keyboard.
Plan to dual both windows(150 Gb). Will upgrade the to Crucial 32gb. Like other folks choosing the HD seemed to be the hardest part. I went with 512 since my old pc had 250 and Ill have more media real soon.

$102 cash back with chase card is nice too.

This will give me the opportunity to set up a raid system with the dual thunderbolt later, if I can find one that's neat not taking up too much space, and if i start shooting photos raw with my dslr.

To be honest, I don't know how I feel about this purchase yet. I really wanted a 21.5 inch iMac, as every time I see the 27-inch one I have a negative impression about how big it is. It'll be my first iMac ever and I'll be coming from a nearly-maxed out Early 2011 MacBook Pro.

I guess I'll see... just wish there was a spec bump to the 21.5 and I would have been more than happy to go with that one. Any positive reinforcement?

I'm coming from a rMBP and I have a monitor I use at home for work which is 21" but I did try them at the store and figure I have 14 days to return if I'm not happy. So yeah, we'll get used to it! I think

Hopefully. By the way I just noticed a mistake in my original post. I have an Early 2011, not Early 2013 MacBook Pro. If that makes it any better, lol.
