And getting closer... Apple just charged my credit card but items are shown as still processing.

I'm a student starting university next month and have ordered one of the new 27" iMac with 5K Retina and wondered if you thought this is a good configuration and I will upgrade the RAM with 3rd party RAM!
Any opinions? :) can't wait to get it! Is there any way to get faster shipping than standard? Has anyone got it delivered in a couple of days?

That doesn't show the configuration? Also one thing to consider if you are going to college, are you sure you won't need a laptop instead? It really depends what you are doing in college but portability can be important.

I'm partially sighted so having the larger and sharper display is more important to me than portability. Here's the config: 3.5 GHZ i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB FUSION DRIVE, AMD M290X Graphics. What'd you think? I'll upgrade ram by third party! Will this last up to 5 years?? Your opinions? This is for student bear in mind :) any way to get faster shipping and delivery than standard after ordering?

I don't think there is a way to get faster shipping but shipping with Apple is fairly fast and from what I've seen, if you are doing the standard config, then you will get yours about the time they show up in stores.

And if you are a standard student who will be writing papers, doing research online, etc, then it will be a great machine.

I remember when I ordered my 2012, they upgraded the shipping if you asked, but it came at the same time as the others, A couple days after it shipped. As far as that guy on the previous page saying that he got a free trackpad, aren't they free anyway? Well that or a mouse... Maybe he got two. In past orders if you asked nicely, you could get a free superdrive or similar. maybe it depends on who you get and how pathetic you sound..I guess if anyone gets anything useful for free, let us know how, and what..

Same here. I wonder when it will go....

Mine just went to preparing for shipment!! I think they are shipped out Sunday night from China at least that is what I've seen in previous orders I've had. So it is possible we might get it at the end of this week?!

So mine says 3-5 business days shipping from ordering it on Friday, does that mean it'll be delivered by Wednesday?? Any advice to get it shipped faster and am I able to get a free trackpad?

No it's 3-5 business days until they ship it - so it should be shipped by Tuesday - Friday.

Then it takes another 3-5 business days to actually come to your door (or 2-3 if you chose expedited shipping).

That said, Apple usually gives broad and pessimistic estimations. There's a good chance that you'll get it on the first day of the estimated delivery date, or the day before.

So my shipping is 3-5 business days from Friday 17th and delivery is estimated between 23rd-27th October. When do you think it'll be delivered? I'm just worried it'll take really long to get to me? When do you think it'll come?

Most likely on the 23rd, maybe the 22nd. But it really depends, in the US, we generally get them quicker than estimates or on the beginning of the estimate, I am guessing you are not in the US based by the earlier shipping time. So it would depend a lot on local delivery.

Yes I'm in the UK . do you have any idea how this may differ? Do you think it'll be delivered on the 23rd then? What if I don't get it then? Would you recommend getting the magic mouse or magic track pad and is my configuration good enough to last >4 years?

I went with the trackpad myself because it gets higher reviews than the mouse. There are a lot of gestures that are built in with the trackpad that are nice.

My guess is the 23rd is your most likely date if not earlier but who knows? And I would say that system would last many people who aren't doing intensive graphic applications would last a few years so 4 or more isn't unreasonable. There are a lot of people with 2009 and 2008 iMacs on this forum it seems, some even earlier.

You'd have to cancel your order and reorder. I have heard that if you go to an Apple store they may swap it for you?

And the Apps depends on what you are are doing or need to do. Yosemite will come with a lot of good apps already installed.

When you receive your iMac, go swap the mouse for a trackpad if you want.

RAM : Crucial - check the specs on their website (you need to correct RAM), and see if Amazon has it for cheaper.

I forgot to select trackpad when I was ordering. The Magic Mouse is the default. So I called back, and the lady said I need to cancel and reorder. I was dejected to hear that cz this was not an option for me.

I don't know what happened to her and she says "you know what, I'm gonna make your day. I'll add trackpad as a complimentary item" .. Awesome Apple ;)

I told her that I even missed selecting expedited shipping, so she gave me even that which was I think worth $30.

I also work in a customer driven company like Apple and I know for sure that these representatives have a lot of power.

Is there any way for me to get this done other than over the phone as I don't have one right now. Could I email them or online chat? Advice please??

I tried customer chat but they don't handle changes to orders apparently. Haven't tried email but I'm pretty sure the fastest way would be by calling them

You're in the UK, right ?

http://uk.crucial.com/ScanListView?...le&assocType=MEMORY&langId=-1&catalogId=10153

I did exchange a magic mouse for a trackpad when I got my rMBP and found I hated the mouse. This time around, I got the mouse because I have 2 trackpads already and figured I could give it another shot, or I'll just use it when I travel. Or I'll use it as a paperweight :p

I got the CPU and GPU upgrade + 256GB SSD and Vesa mount. Ordered a 16GB RAM kit from Crucial (via Amazon) to bump it up to 24GB total.

Ditch the Fusion disk and get an SSD.

I can't do that after purchasing it can I? I've already put my order in?

Cancel and reorder... mechanical devices are a thing of the past, they are noisy, slow and prone to failure. Get the SSD despite the fact that it has less capacity. You can always hook up an external disk and call it a day.

Also spend a little more $ and get AppleCare, you'll have nothing to worry for 3 years.
