Because there are people out there with limited funds that can't afford the more expensive phone. SOMETIMES these people want to justify their less expensive phone as being just as good or better than the more expensive upgraded phone. It's a thing dude, accept it.

Oh wait I see now... You're another one that thinks the lesser 11 is better than the more expensive 11 Pro.
That's it. You got me. Whatever "dude".

I see all the time in posts when people say "hey if you can't afford such and such". For many phone buyers it has nothing to do with their finances at all. Literally nothing at all. I know myself if I wanted a $2000 phone because I felt it was the best for me I would buy it, I wouldn't have to finance it or put it on a credit card and it wouldn't make a dent in my banking account.

With that said, I am still undecided which iphone I will get. I am taking everything into consideration hardware wise, but not price. Price is irrelevant. Right now I am leaning towards the regular 11. For me I just don't want the Max, just too big and heavy, so that is crossed off my list. Considering the 11 Pro but I'm not sure if I want a phone with a display that size (concerned the screen will be a little too small for my liking). Plus about a month ago I was at BestBuy looking at the XR, XS, and XS Max and I thought the XR had the best looking display in my opinion as well as the best size for me (the two XS models the white's on their screens I thought looked a horrible dingy off white color where as the XR looked much better to me display colors wise). If somebody wants to say I am just not used to OLED screens, I am currently using an Android phone with an OLED and I thought it beat the pants off the two XS models for colors (the white on my phone's screen is actually white) while the XR looked really good. So screen quality and size (despite the lower resolution) is why at this point I am leaning toward the regular 11 for my next phone choice. I would miss the telephoto lens on the Pro but I would give that up for a display where I thought the colors were more accurate even if the Pro had a higher res display.

I think some of the Pro owners are either trying to show off (in which I don't understand why) or they are trying to boost their ego's by putting other people down, or God knows what their reason is.

I ordered a pair of jeans online that I didn't like so I returned them.
Low-hanging fruit that’s actually moot.

The OP explained his decision and thought process after initial first impressions on two products that many are struggling to differentiate.

You did none of this, so your “cute” or “clever” response falls flat. 0/5 stars.

I was in the same boat when the X came out having an X. I hated the form factor of the X and stuck with the 8. It will be same upgrading to the Pro from the 8 for me. Hopefully there will be an SE version soon.

Interesting new cover story in context of this conversation. I've very much making use of the 14 day return period to consider keeping or returning my 11 Pro, but the thought of an upgraded 8 (8SE?) in the spring may have an impact on that decision!

Ps -- I'm also in the same boat as the other poster in that money is not part of the decision, it's really getting the best device that fits me best that matters most. Of course I like spending less money for things, but it's just not the deciding factor.

I just chock up these threads as, "I was going to get the LCD iPhone all along, just wanted to use my return window to test the expensive device", then run to post how they didn't like it or it wasn't worth it.
Now they can tell anyone who listens, "Yea, I had the Pro, it just wasn't worth it."

If only this were a forum for people to share their thoughts and opinions about Apple stuff.

Or maybe just maybe the "Pro owners" really like their new phone and would like to think their hard earned money bought the best phone available.

It is a fact that some people can't afford the most expensive phones or their parents just won't get the expensive phone for them and it's okay! Really! That being said there are also people like yourself that can afford the nicer phone and choose not to spend the money and be just as happy or happier with the less expensive phone. You may also enjoy the different older display. And guess what?? That makes the lesser expensive phone a much better choice and value for you.

All this being said it doesn't make the people who bought the 11 Pro or 11 Pro max show offs, cocky, snobs or better than anyone else. If they are passionate about their purchase so be it. It's the best phone out there! Just may not be for you.

If you notice I said "some" of the Pro owners, not all of course and not the majority either. There are more than a few on here though that clearly come across as, as you put it "show offs, cocky, snobs or better than anyone else" and overall demeaning and there just isn't any reason for it. People sometimes need to put more effort into how they are coming across, not in what they are actually trying to say so they don't look so bad.

At the end of the day, hypothetically, if all three new phones were priced within $50 of each other there would still be people that would choose the regular 11 over the Pro models simply because they liked certain things better about it than on the Pro's. I may buy the 11 Pro, I may buy the 11, but if I do buy the 11 its simply because I felt it had more of what I was looking for than the other.

Same goes with the SE or if we get an SE2 next year. Sure some may buy it because it was less money, but others would buy it because they liked it the best regardless of price.

Its a valid comment though, not an insult. I guess some people go for the most expensive option at first, get buyers remorse because they stretched their finances too far, and instead go for the cheaper option. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, maybe they are just being more money conscious and less wasteful.

11 Pro is much better phone. Camera alone is worth it, bigger battery, OLED - ie much better screen, etc..... But, everyone likes different things. Will give you 11 is cheaper, so maybe that helps.

I guess some people have to really reverse justify their outlay if they are stretching things

No one is saying that the 11 pro doesn’t have more features.

What is being said is that some of the features are subjective rather then absolute, the balance being take it or leave it for others

For my taste, the 11’s screen is better. It what I have to look at all day. Maybe not so much for your taste. That’s fine.

Do you really thing that someone who can spend £729 cash on a new phone can’t spend £1,049 at a pinch ?

Think about it .....

Sorry to burst some bubbles .....

People have different preferences. I bought an 11 because I wanted an 11. I got an 11 Pro for my wife because that's what she prefers. It doesn't have to be a financial decision. The Pro is not objectively better for everyone.

It's really not that difficult for most of us to grasp.

Still think the battery life and telephoto lens are a big plus for the Pro phones. I prefer my LG OLED tv 10/10 times over any LCD tv I’ve had in the past including my light canon Sony HDR tv I currently have in the living room. When it comes to these smaller phone displays, I don’t really care about about the OLED vs LCD argument as long as the display is bright and colorful and legible. Now when it comes to my iPad Pro, id love for it to have an OLED panel since I actually watch letterboxed movies on it at night. At the end of the day the 11s are all awesome phones, I still think the 11 is a better buy if you’re buying now as a stop gap until the real deal comes out in 2020.

I think the 11 is a fine phone. It’s just not for me. I’m very happy with my 11 Pro and don’t think I’m any better of a person for having it. It serves my purposes and is the right size which is very important to me. My wife still has her X and is still very happy with it. She has no reason to upgrade and chose not to. I think she’d be happy with the 11 if she decided to upgrade and if she could deal with the lager size.

Couldn't agree more.

Tim Cook drives a BMW 5-series. I wonder if similar idiotic arguments would be made.

"Tim test drove the M5 and 7-series, but settled for the 5. He clearly couldn't afford the more expensive model."

I feel the same way. I have the pro and I actually prefer the LCD screen better on my eyes.
Yup. I’m with you too. I’m actually a little confused why everyone prefers the OLED so much more. My iPhone X gives me mad headaches, but I have a hard time sacrificing features to get the LCD screen. I’m hoping the iPhone 12 won’t have OLED or at least will get rid of PWM.

LG OLED TV's aren't using PWM so they are objectively better in that regard alone. A Samsung OLED with PWM would result in an unusable iPad for a bunch of people.

I'm pretty sure I'm trading my 64 gig X in on a 128 gig 11 this weekend. The one thing I think I will miss in OLED is the dark mode. It looks absolutely fantastic. But not worth $400 fantastic...

It really isn’t, unfortunately you have so many ppl out here on this forum that get in their feelings if you give an opinion and don’t put the pro “on top” so to speak. Very insecure ppl man.

I think you make a good point about the battery. To be honest after having the 11 for a short time I am not noticing too much difference from the pro. This might be because the XR was actually the long life phone of its generation and the 11 pro has being playing catch-up. The 11’s battery has only a tiny bit more capacity then the XR but the 11 pro is 25% more then the XS.
I would also like the telephoto lens. I do item photography for eBay and also flattering people shots.
Using the XR and 11 I step back and use the normal lens digitally zoomed in. It’s ok in good light but noisy in bad light. The telephoto would be less noise.
I do appreciate the new wide angle lens though, it means much less use of the pano function for me.
I would prefer a 11+ with the telephoto lens. That would be my perfect phone.
Of course any weight reduction on any of the phones is also welcome.
The 11 is 90% there ....

At the end of the day, just enjoy what phone you have. Nobody really cares what phone you have just in the same way you don't care if I have an 11 Pro. Hell I don't even care that I have an 11 Pro. Its just a phone. I only ended up upgrading from my X so that my wife could have an upgrade from her 7. If she hadn't wanted an upgrade I'd still have my X nevermind an 11 or an 11 Pro.

Buy whatever phone you want for whatever reason you have, and let everyone else just do the same. There are far more important things in this world.

Yea the 11 is 90% there however I’m not liking the form factor of the 11 vs the Pro. However I’m not going to get the Pro for an extra $300 because it’s the form factor that I prefer. If the 11 was the same size as the pro the 11 for me with no hesitation. IMO the 11 non pro is a more practical device vs the Pro.
