I find the complaints to be very legitimate. The "who cares" comment was lame.

Luckily I knew of (most of) these flaws up-front, so that wasn't too much of a setback for me. It would be great if some of these would get fixed with a firmware update.

Waa waaaa. Nothing better to do with your time then tell everyone u wasted your money and went back to the crap phone u had in the first place. Bravo!

Seriously? grow up people, he went with another phone...god forbid. Life will go on and there's no need to sit here and defend your precious little iphone. I have a 3G and can understand every one of his complaints and feel they are legitimate.

Don't really see why people post things like this. How old are some people? 13? 14? If not, please grow up.

I love my iPhone and everyone I know loves the 3G but people are allowed to not like it and if they don't, I am very interested to know why

i agree. some posters are extremely childish on these boards. time to grow up a little kids.

This is my second one. I am hoping to see a fix with a firmware update. Otherwise I will start browsing for an aftermarket battery.....

Check out richardsolo.com and it is not an aftermarket battery but a battery pack that will plug in and double your use time during the day. I guess someone could get two of them and never have an issue. Pretty cool little device.

WARNING: THIS BRUCE GUY IS A TROLL! Only 1 post at start!

A 'troll' is someone that signs up to harass, bully and flame people. He has legitimate concerns.

Methinks the people being immature about this are the ones too obsessed with Apple to respect that there are people that find problems with their products.

Interesting about the echo. I switched from a Treo to an iPhone, and the same Bluetooth headset (Plantrontrics 510) sounds so much better. I didn't have any complaints before, but now, I'm thrilled with the sound, and so are the people I talk to.

Yes, dialing is a little different, but I got used to it within a day or so, and as for the battery issue, it's not horrible for me, but it is much shorter than with the Treo. Than again, my Treo didn't have 3G. :) I prefer the clarity, and use a car charger when I'm out and about.

Good luck to you.

I think a big part of the OP's complaints simply have to do with the fact that he was just so used to using a Blackberry, that it became very annoying, very quickly on trying to get used to the new iPhone. Admittedly, when I first got an iPhone a while back, it took some time to get used to the system with no tactile feedback, etc, but eventually it became like second nature. And after trying out Blackberrys, I ended up hating those damn QWERTY keypads.

In regards to battery life, I use my phone quite often throughout the course of the day, and my phone lasts a solid 21-24 hours before I'm running on those red bar fumes. Here's my general day-to-day usage:
- 15 minute fetch on 2 email accounts.
- 3G is always active.
- Significant usage of the 3G network when browsing the internet and such on the bus/train/plane.
- Watch an episode of a TV show while eating quick lunches.
- Use Pandora on 3G and Wifi quite considerably throughout the day.
- And there's probably more...but you get my point

And finally, in reference to your Apple Store experiences, I'm honestly not surprised if you've encountered a few issues on this regard. After a bit of a fiasco returning the first 3G iPhone I bought, I realized how much I cherish my neighborhood Apple Store. There are 3 relatively close to where I am, and I know that I am never taking any of my Apple problems to at least 1 of them. The one closest to me is luckily the most reliable with the best customer service I could ask for. I guess you just have to get a little lucky in terms of the mentality and atmosphere of the store you go to...

Along with the keyboard, this [dialing contacts] is one of my biggest concerns as I get ready to pick up my first iphone tomorrow. I currently use a Treo 800w on Sprint and dialing a contact from the home screen couldn't be easier. I'm really hoping that the iphone works well enough for me as a phone and email/texting device but I definitely have my doubts. I guess that's what the return policy is for though and I intend to put my iphone to the test.

Get familiar with this: FAVORITES.

While on the home screen, double-click the home button. Your list of FAVORITES comes up. Touch a name. Phone automatically dials. If that's too difficult for you, you've got bigger problems. ;)

I have the 3G in white. The phone does every thing it said it would do. I've not had any of the problems that the original OP of this thread experienced....but I just don't care for the phone. I think it is super cool and all that...it just isn't what I need (for me).

I decided to return it, since the 30 day return policy is still good...except, I just found out, on the iPhone, it's only 2 weeks (according to the AT&T store where I purchased the phone). Guess I am just going to have to learn to like it, and maybe that will happen...it is a cool phone, I just will never use close to even 1/2 of what it is capable of doing.

Ah - that sounds like it will work out nicely for me. Thank you! Now about that keyboard...

Seriously though, I'm picking up my 3G today and if I can manage to get used to the keyboard I'll be sold.

Keyboard seems weird and hard to use at first. But give it a week and u will be typing faster on it than any tactile keyboard.

I love my iPhone and would not swap it, but the battery life is the only think I truly dislike about this phone. It has not run out on me yet, but I am constantly paranoid that it will and usually half way through the day I am turning off 3G. (I'll try turning of location services in the future to see if that helps.) My old phone I used to be able to get a good three days out of it, this one is dying by the time I get home. To me though this is the only thing that I dislike about the iPhone.

I hope you're right about that. I would like to see a version of TouchPal that's compatible with the iphone though. That would give me another option just in case I can't get used to the iphone's keyboard. I guess I'll find out soon enough. Can't wait to pick mine up this afternoon.

well your main reason for returning your iPhone was the battery life, to which I totally understand. The battery life is terrible IMO, and is the most dissapointing thing for me as an upgrader from the original iPhone. Feel like I'm constantly hooked the wall whenever I'm indoors, but I never had this charge obssesion with the original iPhone

And no number of software updates from apple will fix this problem :(

wait, why would you buy an iphone and not use the phone? how exactly do you justify that? honestly, i don't know. i'm not being smart, i just don't understand how you would buy a phone and not use the phone part.

but in regards to the OP, you tried the iphone, it wasn't for you, and you decided to share. honestly, you have every right to, and those are complain that you're complaining, need to drop it.

like others have said, he listed pros and cons. it's not like he came on here and bashed the iphone saying it was a horrible, horrible device and apple should be ashamed of themselves. grow up people, he's entitled to his opinion and he's entitled to share it.

Thanks for the web site.

Looks like the battery will work with the iPhone and iPods (Touch, Nano and Classic). Price is reasonable.

I exchanged mine last Friday due to a battery which would last 3 hours, at max, with Wifi/3G/Location Services and Push e-mail turned; Off.

New model has a minute bubble in the plastic on the back, nothing I'm worried or concerned with.

Battery life has improved 6-fold.

I'm getting one full day of usage, finally.

Why the snarky responses? All of his complaints are legitimate, especially the one about battery life. I don't use my phone too much, and the battery is close to dead at the end of the day. If I relied on my phone for my living, I'd probably go a different way as well.

Also, he gave pros and cons, he didn't just bash the thing.

As to who cares, others in his situation might like to know there's a battery-life issue, or other concerns.

Do the iPhone forums seem a little immature compared to the rest of MR, or is it just me?

No, he is just a crackberry basher like all of them who own those phones. Seen it on other forums too. We have so far in our company, and the batteries are doing just fine. Mine is still a full charge and it has been 6 hours since it was unplugged. Amazing...great battery life!

EDIT: DUh ... never mind ... i't's a "setting." I love it!

Mine doesn't do that. Nothing happens when I double click the home button on the home screen. That would be a nice feature.

We don't have the luxury of a replaceable iPhone battery. I'm no quitter though so...
