I exchanged mine last Friday due to a battery which would last 3 hours, at max, with Wifi/3G/Location Services and Push e-mail turned; Off.

Makes me feel good about mine. That's OBVIOUSLY defective.

New model has a minute bubble in the plastic on the back, nothing I'm worried or concerned with.

iStyles will solve that blemish.

wait, why would you buy an iphone and not use the phone? how exactly do you justify that? honestly, i don't know. i'm not being smart, i just don't understand how you would buy a phone and not use the phone part.

but in regards to the OP, you tried the iphone, it wasn't for you, and you decided to share. honestly, you have every right to, and those are complain that you're complaining, need to drop it.

like others have said, he listed pros and cons. it's not like he came on here and bashed the iphone saying it was a horrible, horrible device and apple should be ashamed of themselves. grow up people, he's entitled to his opinion and he's entitled to share it.

I will use the phone, but that is my problem, that is about all I will use, the phone part, and I like having pix on my phone. I will rarely use the internet, etc. It's my fault, I should not have gotten so caught up in all the excitement...I had a motorola flip phone for the last 3 years and it's just really all I needed.

I think the iPhone is very cool and lived up to it's expectations in my book, I just am not utilizing it, and I should have known better.

This will probably sound really nuts, to you guys, but I hate how when I am using my phone (talking on it) when I am finished it has my make up all over the face of it, and that drives me nuts. I spend more time trying to keep the face of the phone wiped off, than I do using the phone...lol Told you...guys wouldn't understand that aspect of the phone!

Why the snarky responses? All of his complaints are legitimate, especially the one about battery life. I don't use my phone too much, and the battery is close to dead at the end of the day. If I relied on my phone for my living, I'd probably go a different way as well.

Also, he gave pros and cons, he didn't just bash the thing.

As to who cares, others in his situation might like to know there's a battery-life issue, or other concerns.

Do the iPhone forums seem a little immature compared to the rest of MR, or is it just me?

Why do people expect the battery to last days when they use the phone/surf internet/ipod/movies ???

Your Macbook won't last 4-6 hrs if you use it constantly and that's over Wifi and not the power hungry 3G network.

Turn off your 3G, Wifi and GPS when you don't need them!!!!!!!!

Want to surf??? turn on your wifi or 3G then...........

Lastly, get a car charger!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

I'm getting 4 hours usage on average before it hits the red. Not bad but no great. 3g off if I'm not using it.
But the one thing that really bugs me is I sometimes get a very slow keyboard both on SMS and email.
Sometimes the whole phone just seems to run so slow. I really hope this gets fixed with the update.

i have numerous problems with mine, but i spoke to applecare, and it sound like i am just going to either have to attempt to return and deal with vodafone(ending the contract could be a pain), or wait for firmware... i think i will wait for firmware.

just general un-responsiveness- contacts mainly.

What a bunch of pissy fangirls. If the iPhone doesn't suit the guy and he took it back who cares. He did the right thing in his mind.

Agreed. I think its funny if someone disagrees with apple people go ballistic. He has the right to bitch about it if he doesn't like it.

I can't wait for the performance and stability fixes...the phone is way cool, but it will only be great when they take care of the crashes and performance issues (lag when typing, searching contacts, etc.)

I'll be patient for a while...just hoping we don't have to wait too long. Apple was decent (time wise) with the releases for 1.x so I'm hoping we see stuff soon for 2.x.

Going back to Crackberry

hmm... well, i think you should have done this (always works for me) : TURN DOWN THE PHONE'S BRIGHTNESS LEVEL!! most of the battery is drained by that super bright backlight it has... i have mine around 20% or just above the 't' in the word 'brightness' on the scale you use to set it in the 'settings' app. And my iPhone has never run out of battery life... EVER

also.... why wouldn't this guy just wait it out for the 2.1 release that might fix his issues?? I mean, doesn't he still have his crackberry phone? why the hell couldn't he just hold on to the iPhone, and put the SIM in the old phone and use it when (if, assuming he adjusts the brightness) the iPhone battery dies??

Just reading through the endless comments saying 'you just needed to get to learn to use the device' is enough to put me off these boards.

The thing with Apple design is that its really intuitive. Thats why I like it for creating and recording music, the system doesn't get in the way! I agree with many of the points of the original poster, the iPhone does have some serious flaws, and I am currently struggling to get a whole days battery life from it (admittedly, I have only just got it so am going crazy playing with it all the time). We shouldn't have to turn off features to get around this, I got the phone for push email and 3G - why the hell would I turn them off!

I can afford (time, not money) to stick with the phone a bit longer, and I really want to, for the kinks to come out - but given that I believe there are currently some serious flaws with it, I can understand that others may not.

Although I'm sure you don't care what I think, I urge those who think that the OP was just hating Apple re-read the post and see that he is stating his points of view - and this is a forum, we are meant to listen and constructively comment, not just shout down.

My constructive comment: For numbers you dial alot, use the favorite numbers section, or click contacts and tap them into the search, both work well. As to the battery issue, I'm going into the store tomorrow or the next day if it doesn't get better as I have a suspicion mine is a bit faulty.

"I would have like more than 2 weeks to try the phone out. But since it was $300, I was limited to Apple's 14 day return policy."

Here's my complaint about your complaint:

Why have you not ever brought up these issues with the forums? We could have offered suggestions/advice. Tech support and "Geniuses" are far less valuable than the community forum in which you have a huge user base all struggling together with the same issues (for which many have solutions).

It's like getting a divorce without ever talking about any of your issues. Enjoy your crackberry whore.

Anti Glare film will take care of your problem!

The reality is if you are going to fully utilize the 3g iPhone and all that it offers you will need to exhibit some power management.

I don't mean turning things off, as that defeats the point of the phone. I don't want to turn off features on my phone. I am talking about charging the phone when you are in a position to do so.

If I am in the car, that is a time it can be charging even if I am using it. Same goes for work. If I am at my desk, I have the USB cable there and plug it in. I can still do everything I want with the phone, but this way when I do go out and about I am probably leaving with almost a fully charged phone, and again if I am driving somewhere I can charge up in the car.

Just doing this, I have almost zero chance of running my battery down during the day.

I would say in the case of the OP if you are running totally out by 2p every day you must be doing something very persistant for many hours at a time. Perhaps running an app like Pandora, or iPod. if you make 30 minutes of phone calls, and check mail 4 or 5 times and spent another 30 minutes browsing, there is no way you should run out of power in 8 hours like that. I don't care if push, pull, tug and shove are all turned on.

I realize we have all become used to massive battery lives in the past few years where if we plugged our phone in once a week it was enough to go.. Unfortunately with the current iPhone there are some trade-offs for what it offers. So if you want to keep yourself fully charged up, you just need to make a few minor adjustments.

I suggest that for 99% of the people, if they just put their phone on a charge at work and in their car that they would never run their battery down.

Yup...That's EXACTLY what I'm doing. Maybe not ideal for some, but to me it's not that big a deal. It takes just a few seconds when I hop in the car or when I get to my Mac (at home) or my PC (at work). I don't need to charge it in all locations, but if I'm around 50% or less I just pop it in. Simple enough for me.

Now the bugs/crashes/performance/stability...that's what I'd really like to see addressed.

One thing I still don't understand is why does everyone complain about their battery life so much??? Did you know that they actually make devices these days called chargers that charges your battery. Some of you should try it. The ones that complain about just getting a days worth of use, do you use the phone while you sleep???? Just to make things easy for me and not worry about battery life all the time, I have a dock at my office, charger in the car, and a dock at home. I am a pretty heavy user and I generally can get about a day and half with my iphone. When it starts getting below the half way mark then I plug it in where ever I am at. I just don't understand why people hate to use chargers and want there phone to last for days and days and days. It is a pocket computer guys. Use a charger.... It works

Well said.

Basically...

Keep the iPhone in a charging situation as much as possible whether in the car or at your desk.

Watch your settings on the iPhone.

Carry the RichardSolo battery mentioned above.

Simple solution.

Battery life is a major concern for me too. Sometimes I feel as if Apple put a smaller battery in the iPhone 3G versus the original.

I have 3G and location services off, push on for mobileme, and a few other accounts set at 30min fetch.

My old iPhone was set at 15min fetch intervals (obviously no push available) for all accounts and would last easily twice as long as my current iPhone.

There is definitely a problem here. My phone will still last all day, but I'm getting close to the 20% warning, or it has already popped up before the phone gets on the charger when I go to bed. The first phone would still be above half and would last most of the next day if I forgot to charge it.

If I am going to be away from a charging point for an extended amount of time, I won't play any games or surf the net just to assure myself that I won't run out of battery.

The guy who's says it last 3-4 days? I call bs, unless that thing is in your pocket and never used.

****... why are you people jumping on the hate wagon?? This poor guy just came on here giving his experience with his phone and you guys jump down his throat like he killed your grandmother. In case some of you forgot how to read he gave both POSITIVE and NEGATIVE points for the phone, and his negative points were very legitimate and issues that lots of people have with their phones. As for the Blackberry part, BIG DEAL he owned a Blackberry before his iPhone... that must be blasphemy. Also there were people telling him to leave... that is ridiculous for two reasons. The first and obvious one is that he has a right to come on here and say whatever he wants, even if he says that he just recently burned his MacBook, he still has the right to say that. The second is that just because he no longer owns an iPhone doesn't mean he doesn't own any other Apple products. Just in case you guys forgot this site is called MACrumors not IPHONErumors. Give the guy a break... he obviously just doesn't want an iPhone right now. Some people here need some real growing up to do. Can we please squash the Blackberry/iPhone beef on this site?? The Windows/Mac beef we can keep though lol

Wow, this is really saddening. And people say I am a fanboy. Now I can give them this thread.

Again, my complaint is not that he is bashing the iPhone. Power to him! Down with the iPhone - it sucks! Yippee! whatever...

My complaint is that he never asked for help. He did not properly give the phone a chance (ie. ask for help when you have problems). If he had posted a couple of these questions before returning the phone, I would have welcomed the concerns -- we probably could have helped him with a lot of the issues, and he might be a satisfied iPhone owner today.

Besides not giving the iPhone a chance, he also did not give macrumors community a chance to aid him in his struggles. He just assumed that nobody would be able to help him or was too proud to ask.

If after such interrogation he posted this thread, I would be like, "Sorry it didn't work out. At least you tried."
