Work permit in CA allows you to work once you're 15 and 1/2 with some exceptions. In general, almost all decent workplaces in CA won't hire until 16 and a lot don't hire until 18. With the current economic situation in the US, good luck finding a job. About 1 year ago there was still a good number of jobs available. Now, try finding a job with a permit and you'll be lucky to get an interview. (At least in the major cities/large suburban cities).

Go for the black one. The white one will show dirt stains more easily.

No in California once you are in High School you can get a work permit and work 13+. This is exactly what I did when I was a freshman and I'm a senior now nothing has changed. The only problem is you must be 14 to work for a business not owned by your family.

Ok then. I'm only 13 and I wasn't the one asking about work permits or anything having to do with a job for that matter. But thanks anyway. I agree, go with the black one. That's what I have. Lolz

I think this thread just basically turned into Young vs. Old.

This thread needs to be locked, because this is just going to turn into the young kids saying "OMGZ I NEEDZ iPHONEZ" and the older people saying "No you don't". And it already has.

And in all honesty if you don't have any other use for an iPhone besides calling people or text messaging then you don't need an iphone. A razr is good for that. Hell an old-school Brick telephone is good for that. However, if you do have use for it (Business, or otherwise) then more power to you.

Older people, you have to realize that kids nowadays have rich Mommies and Daddies who think Good parenting comes from catering to your child's every whim, and spending insane amounts of money in order for them to be 'happy' and caught up with all of the latest trends and fashions. Let them be. They'll find once they grow up how much work goes into something, and even if they don't, it's people. View it as their own money going back into the economy (somewhat). There's no need to be arguing on the internet.

When I was 13 pagers were the coolest thing out there and in school, if you were caught with one, you got serious detention. Things sure do change. Instead of giving our kid's cell phones how about a good old gps chip in the neck?

Kids should at least have to suffer through not having a QWERTY keyboard on their phone. I had to use one after a few months of not having my old iPhone and it was hell on Earth. >_>

Any kid on here who is under the age of 15 and has an iPhone, may I please have the names and phone numbers of your parents. I would REALLY (or should I say realy?) love to have some choice words with them.

My nephew is 15. My brother, well... Lets just say that he came into money. To be blunt, my brother and his wife have millions (although it was at the loss of his wife's family so it is a tragedy) so it's not that he couldn't afford to buy my nephew an iPhone. So why doesn't my 15 year old nephew have an iPhone? For the simple fact that he simply does not need it. It's like a 19 year old kid who I used to work with (at a restaurant, he was a busser) who had a Blackberry. He only had the one job, so what was the point of the Blackberry? My whole point is this... No kid needs an iPhone. They want one simply because they think its cool and because every spoiled little brat has one.

Kids, my message to you is this:
Wait for the finer things in life. If you get them at such a young age you'll develop into a spoiled a$$hole with a silver spoon in their mouth and you will never appreciate the finer things that do come around. If you truly do want an iPhone so bad, go around cutting lawns and work your a$$ off for one. That way, when you do finally get it you will be proud of it.

God, the world we live in makes me sick sometimes.
Stupid 16 year old kids riding around in Mercedes. It's sad!

Someone have a rough childhood? Someone a little jealous?

It is not your place to determine need, or even if need is necessary. Even going with your argument, the iPhone is still a $200 iPod/Cell phone combo. I imagine that feature and price combination alone would pique the interest of many teenagers, especially considering the iPod nano is the same price.

Would that interest still be there when they find out the 2-year commitment? :p

Some people have always had rich mommies and daddies who bought them anything and everything. This is nothing new. As I previously mentioned in this thread, not that it is your place to determine need, the iPhone is not exclusively a business tool. I'm sure it irks you that a teenager has the same powerful technology as you, but get over it.

It is a phone and calendar and e-mail and internet machine with Myspace and Facebook and AIM and texting and games and lots of good stuffs ........................ ;) If anything, the iPhone with $10-a-pop games will work out to be less expensive than a DS + iPod nano + Sidekick combo.

I don't know where you live but in Australia, Hungry Jacks (burger king) employs staff as long as they are over 13 years of age. i don't know if this means anything to you but yeah try a chain resteraunt like that.

Most chains won't look at you if you're under 16, oftentimes 18.

lol lucky australia is an employee-favoured market.
off that subject i think that the 2 year contract isnt going to deter anyone nowadays, in australia most my friends are using probably $60 a month already on there prepaid and it'd simply be getting a different phone in this case. making offers like 1c text on telstra has instead of making it cheaper has found people spending more money on it.

It's a liability and cost savings/streamlining issue. It is much easier to have one policy for all states operated in. Companies that hire at 14 or 16 are oftentimes, depending on state law, severely limited as to what they can have the employee do, hours they can schedule work, etc. Going with 18 is easy, it makes sense for a lot of businesses that have potentially hazardous situations involved. It is much easier and more practical to do odd jobs or work at a locally owned business at 14.

Whoops, sorry. Must have missed that part. :D

Even then.... you have this problem:

Still, as others have suggested, freelancing online will always work. No one will know your age and and no one will need to know.

It's apparent that ALOT of people need to get over their ELITIST attitudes. Saying "what is a 16 year old doing with an iPhone, outrageous! I'm a businessman and can't have the same phone as these kids!"

Get over yourselves!

i'm 13 and I have an iPhone. I use it mainly for phone and internet. I BOUGHT IT MYSELF. your right i probably don't need it, but i can't live without it. I have recently converted my parents to macs, so I think you adults are saying kids shouldnt have iphones just had bad childhoods and you weren't allowed to get what you wanted.:D:p

Don't really see anyone saying that

I see legitimate concerns about 9-year-old kids having cell-phones when there is little to no reason whatsoever for them to have one

As for 13-year-olds, I can somewhat see letting them have a phone but an iPhone? I see very little reason for that. I have given my nephews (who I take care of) phones that allow them to call all family numbers, several friends, and emergency numbers. That is it.

I know we have some 13-14 year olds claiming they bought their phones but I highly doubt they actually did

Jesus christ on a cross burning into a pile of ashes and blowing into the wind, you guys are endlessly annoying.

NONE of us need iPhones. I don't need an iPhone. My business man of a father doesn't need an iPhone. Paris Hilton doesn't need one, and neither do ANY OF YOU. You need one just as badly as that 9 year old girl on page 3.

You could get by just as well on THIS:

mp3phones_nokia.jpg

So stop complaining about other people having iPhones who "don't need them" : neither do you.

And if someone's parents buys them something nice and they're happy with it, why on God's earth should that make you so miserable? *sigh*
