Yes. Developers complain about massive app thefts, and some give up after their servers melt. Resulting in less App store revenue for Apple, less developers, and thus eventually less apps available for all customers.

Devices with modified OSes get bricked during OS updates because the mod was done poorly. Customers complain to Apple, not the guy who screwed up the mod.

Devices running the stock OS cause none of these problems for Apple.

Finally someone with a brain. Sadly most users here, techie, will not understand most part especially users complaining for Apple. I had many idiots who wanted to check their iphones because some games were running slow... there were 1000 modifications, sbs settings and notes in home, images background on 3G.... in comparison 4.2.1 on 3G seems lighting fast. but they blamed Apple. Most don't even understand the software they bought or pirate are not done by Apple but third party software house.

Stop this no sense, i can assure you most of them is for pirating or doing stupid stuff which can be done without jailbreak. I work in a support center and i know it. Naturally not "advanced" users who could post it.

Apple has been even too much soft until now.

I used to work in collections and thought no one paid their bills till I found out we touched less than 10% of our clients, 90% do pay their bills.

In tech support you are pretty much spending all your time talking to people to stupid to troubleshoot or even google a solution.

You've talked to all these people and know? Or you're just making generalizations based on the "dozens and dozens" of jailbreakers who have come into your support center?

And your comment about "doing stupid stuff which can be done without a jailbreak" is ignorant and wrong. Show me a legit way to do all of the things the $4 LockInfo buys you, and I'll concede your point.

Does anyone even use books on iPhone? iPad I can understand, but seriously- iPhone for books?

Yeah, I will do some reading on my phone while in a waiting room, my car while waiting in the parking lot to pick up my kids, or other places I have to pass a little time, but am not carrying my iPad. And it syncs my progress back to my iPad where I normally do my reading.

Jailbroken for one simple thing, tethering with mywifi. ATT's plan is ridiculous and I have no intention of losing my unlimited (5gb) plan. I have purchased a book or two through Apple to read while on travel. NEVER AGAIN. I will just use Kindle or Stanza from now on. Apple has blocked the revenue stream from my pocket with this action. In fact, I was intending new phones for the wife and I this summer, guess I will look in a different direction if this is the thanks I get for my money spent on three iPhones and multiple app purchases.

Not everybody. But almost half according to analytics. That's a pretty bad neighborhood with low property values on average.

Which is a fancy way of saying less than 50%.

Do you want to start a crusade against people using Hand-Brake'd movies or torrented music on their legit iPhones too?

Yikes, thank goodness for Time Machine, previous iBooks restored & working - although the fact I hadn't noticed this wasn't working until today shows how much I use iBooks, heh.

What analytics?

How do they gather their data? How the hell could they possibly know who is jailbroken and who isn't?

Not just 1.2.1

I'm getting the same message on iBooks 1.2. Using 4.2.1 & greenpoison jailbreak.
Annoying (to say the least) that I can no longer read a book that I paid $10 for.
I suppose Apple is within their rights to do this, but they should offer refunds.
I think this sort of thing encourages piracy. I've never pirated anything, but am now tempted to do it simply out of spite.

I'm Jailbroken using Pwnage Tool on 4.1 and the same thig happened to me. I don't buy a ton of iBooks but when I finally purchased one, I was unable to read it. Same message. And FYI, it doesn't disable iBooks itself. Only books purchased from the app store. I have .pdf's and even several free books I got from Apple (Winnie the Pooh, Art of War, etc.) that still work fine.

So you knowingly modify the software because you don't want to pay AT&T? What's more, you know that Apple will not support un-authorized modifications such as your own. Yet, you seem appalled that Apple would institute a measure to protect against piracy, which is known to occur frequently under a modified iOS ... the same modified iOS that you know they don't support? I fail to see the logic.

For the record, I am not implying you are a pirate, or anyone on here for that matter. I am merely pointing out that we all agree to license the iOS on our devices under Apple's EULA. If one wished to jailbreak to stick it to AT&T or to add features, more power to them. But to expect Apple to support your device and deviate from the terms you agreed to is silly.

Annoying (to say the least) that I can no longer read a book that I paid $10 for.
I suppose Apple is within their rights to do this, but they should offer refunds.

Why should you be refunded? You purchased content from Apple that requires an Apple application to view. Apple is clear that its software is only supported on un-modified iOS. You didn't lose any content. Apple provides a way to view your content ... by using the officially supported software.

Okay, here's the thing. I have an iPod Touch and an iPad, both of which are jailbroken. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into when doing this on both devices and I don't expect Apple (or anybody for that matter) to support this. I don't do anything too radical on the devices in terms of customization because frankly it unnecessarily uses resources. The only purpose I have for jailbreaking is iBluever which I legally bought off the Cydia store so I can tether my phone to the devices and have internet access when outside a WiFi zone.

As far as I see it, I bought the devices with my hard-earned money and in my eyes I can do anything I want with them because they are 100% mine, regardless of what the law says. Just because Apple is trying to protect their business from people that pirate apps doesn't mean that people like me who are honest and legitimately have a reason to jailbreak should suffer for it. What Apple did with iBooks is not wrong at all in my opinion because it only affects DRM content and publishers need to have their paranoia put to rest somehow. Besides, you have other (better) options besides iBooks such as the Amazon Kindle app.

How about we focus on more important things and we stop whining about things that do nothing but cause unnecessary stress and frankly aren't that big of a deal.

Because everyone who jailbreaks is a pirate. Right.

I'm sure you were staunchly opposed to the first CD-R devices, because clearly anyone with a CD burner is just trying to pirate music and computer games.

Surely the propensity and opportunity to pirate is much greater on a JB device?

CD burners also have legitimate uses, JB arguably doesn't.

What upsets me is...

a/ consumers buys product and agrees to terms
b/ company enforces terms AND provides solution
c/ consumer whines company is being unfair...

don't like it.....sell up and leave!

If apple is going to try make it impossible for people to jailbreak their iDevices than I believe they have an obligation to provide the features that people jailbreak for. Because Apple must realize that people jailbreak to gain features they dont currently have, so if Apple really wants to stop jailbreaking then they should provide those features so that people don't have to.

If I was apple the moment someone jb an idevice, warranty would go down the drain, and any drm-ed content too (no app store). But they should give us the power to chose if want to jailbreak or not. I've had my old iphone jailbroken (0 cracked apps), and some apps (from cydia) where very useful.

Nowadays I own and android phone that has no warranty because I've rooted it. Try to get any brand to service your phone/gadget after you've hacked it, either it goes unnoticed or your warranty gets void.

Anyway it's apple's walled garden. And you only have license to use to os, not to hack it.

The best case for JB? Unlocks. Until Apple unlocks iPhones for use internationally. It sucks having to pay AT&T a crap ton of money (figuratively) to access the internationalness of the iPhone, when you should be able to just buy a local SIM and be on your merry way.

iBooks on the iPhone is nearly useless, but why the hell would anyone vote positive on this?

Crap like this makes me want to dump my Apple products.

I have since uninstalled iBooks and didn't look back. I now use Kobo since it's affiliated with Chapters / Indigo here in Canada. So basically Apple just lost future sales of ibooks content to competitors like Kobo and Kindle... Hope they are happy!

But...If they do this to the core function of the phone (phone app, mail etc) then I will go out that same day to the nearest Telus store and buy a brand new Android device like the HTC Desire HD.

I do not support piracy at all. And I only JB to get functionality that Apple SHOULD have included in the iphone to begin with... like a Today screen which I heavily rely on coming from a Windows Mobile and BB background. Hell if Lock Info were allowed into the app store I might not even be in the JB community at all! Now that I am JBed though, I have come to really like SBSettings and themes too :)

Oh and I REALLY HATE that a lot of people out there think Jailbreak is synonymous with piracy. I don't condone or partake in piracy at all and I resent that people think I do just because I jailbreak my iphone! :(
