I think what he's saying is that his WhatsApp backup is huge, and that he is required to back it up to iCloud since he can't back it up anywhere else and doesn't want to pay for more than the 5GB complimentary storage given. I agree with others, the Google eco system seems a better fit for you since you have more Google cloud space available to put your WhatsApp backups onto. The other alternative is to pay for the 200GB iCloud service, a sacrificial double cheeseburger per month reduction perhaps?
This is my ranking for Android phone brands:
1. Samsung, crap in general
2. Sony, great hardware, very crap software
3. Vivo, Oppo, same Chinese company, have some innovation design, mainly sell by actor or singer holding their phones, don't expect any quality from China brand
4. Xiaomi, non sense expensive poor quality China brand
Other brands don't make enough phones to be cared
1. Samsung, crap in general

saying Xiaomi is nonsense expensive poor quality China brand is quite a joke. the build quality is "you get what you pay for". i have used a few Xiaomi flagship phones and i could say the quality is almost the same or even on par with Samsung flagships. The only down side of Xiaomi phones for me in general is the ads.
Samsung however isnt really crap in general,they make good phones but just not good enough for some(and for me)

Ok I'll be the one to ask. What the heck have you got on WhatsApp where you don't think 50gb is going to be big enough for your archiving needs? How much space for banal junk do you actually need? I'd totally get it if you were storing feature films or commercial audio (eg downloaded albums)...but it's just WhatsApp. The answer is learn to delete the junk you don't need to keep.
yeah im wondering too...i work as a property agent and my whatsapp uses around 1GB of storage for all the property photos and videos...
Indeed. I don't get it when people like OP think the huge tech companies should give them almost limitless free storage to store all their junk. And that's all it can be: junk. OP just needs to housekeep.
for me however,id rather use my SanDisk iXpand to store the files.Because im not the Cloud type of person and secondly the internet in Indonesia is not as great as other countries.
Bit cr-p in my part of the UK as well so I feel your pain. It's great in our large cities and conurbations, but out in the wilds where I live, we party when our download speeds hit double figures, and our upload speeds are measured by a calendar.
ah double figures...i always get double figures for upload and download but it doesnt seem to matter. i have tried it on IOS and Android. Its like the provider here knows im about to speedtest so they adjust the speed. but after speedtest is done,its all slow again. Only time i used 5G on my 12 Pro Max was at a supermarket. And thats about it xD
My experience with this China brand is any cannot be measured by number stuff sucks, like the phone call quality, the phone body, etc.
since 2020 i have never had an issue with call quality on my Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco devices nor do i have issues with the phone body... like i said,you get what you pay for. few months back i spent USD$1700 on a brand new Z Fold 3 only to have the back cover loose. was able to get an exchange but its quite a hassle. my point is some people like petrol cars,some like diesel cars and some like electric cars.
Learn to housekeep. Stop expecting tech giants to host your trash for free. If you think you can just keep storing more and more junk without it all coming crashing down around you at some point, you are mistaken. You're living in a house with expanding walls. I can guarantee you that 'unlimited' is not truly 'unlimited' and at some point, limits WILL be invoked.

So you could spend $1 a month to solve your problems and have a reliable backup or $460 for a new phone? Sounds like you want a reason to buy the new phone. So get the new phone and be happy.
well its cheaper than paying USD$460 for another phone... its only USD$0.99/year for 50GB of space. even if you need 2TB its only gonna cost you USD$9.99/year...USD$460 divided by USD$9.99 is 46 years... or if you want physical storage/despise paying Apple then you could get the 64GB SanDisk iXpand for USD$26...

and if you checked out Apple's page it says USD$0.99 and not USD$1.

When you sign up for iCloud, you automatically get 5GB of free storage. If you need more space in iCloud, you can upgrade to iCloud+.
Is local backup on a Mac/PC not a thing anymore? That could also resolve the issue without additional cost.
You and others like you are the modern equivalent of hoarders. Until you fundamentally address that problem, it's only a matter of time before you hit the next wall. The worst thing the tech giants could ever offer hoarders like yourself was free storage space, because when they do eventually force you to pay, you are guaranteed income for them because you're too far in to reverse. It's like offering free drugs to a junkie: you get him hooked, then when he can't live without, you make him pay through the a-- for it.
i dont think you can backup whatsapp to pc/mac. the best solution for OP is pay the USD$0.99 and move on.
