iCloud's Find my Mac not working?

Hey guys!

Just installed the update and everything went ok. Now, going to icloud's website, i try to locate all my mac's and it doesn't locate. I did activate it on iCloud settings in sysprefs.

How does this work? Find my Mac? What am i missing here?

Thanks.

'evening.

Having seen https://www.macrumors.com/2011/10/12/icloud-and-migration-from-mobileme-services-now-live/ I've just migrated my firstname.lastname@me.com account to iCloud. This was relatively painless.

However it keeps referring to this as an ID, which confuses me. I've always had a firstname.lastname AppleID which is different to my firstname.lastname@me.com MobileMe account - I had it before my MobileMe account. firstname.lastname@me.com is used for MobileMe (iDisk, email address, etc) and firstname.lastname AppleID is used for iTunes purchases (Music, iPhone Apps, etc), Apple Retail Store reservations, Apple.com support, etc.

Should this have been combined with my MobileMe account in the iCloud migration? Or am I now going to have one account for iCloud, and one account that has all my iTunes purchases?

I R CONFUSED

This is my exact same situation.

I have not migrated to iCloud yet.

I don't mind having one account for iCloud and another for iTunes purchases BUT... will those iTunes purchases sync to my device that iCloud is on?!

I'm at work, but I'm curious.

To merge your iTunes and @Me accounts, couldn't you just move your @Me account to iCould and then change your email address in iTunes to your @Me email account and then it all works under one account?

Or am I missing something?

What to do First?

OK so I am to the Screen that asks if all your other devices are upgraded. Does that mean I have to install IOS 5 on my iPhone before I finish? It sounds that way but I do not want to mess anything up.

I'm still playing around with it, but Mail, Contacts, and Calendar iCloud functionality works with Snow Leopard.

That is great news!

Are you sure it syncs? I would imagine that the expected behavior would be that the mobileme calendars and contacts would just sit there but never update.

Well, whether you are minority or not is irrelevant but iCloud is not dummy'd down version of anything Apple has offered before. Dummy'd down means only some futures are missing and there's nothing new. Mobile Me did not have anything remotely resembling documents in the cloud.

The hell they didn't- it is called iDisk, and it's going away. Who really cares if Pages syncs to the cloud? Over 75% of the planet uses Word so that kills that tool.

Oh, and Gallery- some people actually like(d) that.
BTW, what have they added to iCloud (iTunes aside) that was not there in a better form with MM?

you're right, it had iDisk, which was way better.

BTW
- iWork for Mac is not (yet?) compatible with Documents in the Cloud.
- Power users use Office

So Dropbox (for personal files) + Office 365/Skydrive (for sharing with colleagues) or simply Google docs are better here.

I dislike iCloud as much as I like iTunes in the Cloud.

Doesn't work that way.
I have both an iTunes Apple ID and a @me MobileMe Apple ID. When I tried to change my iTunes email to my @me account , it gave me an error and told me that it was already an existing Apple ID.

No, because your iTunes account is distinct from the email address associated with it. They could be the same but need not be. For example, I have an old iTunes account that is simply "qcassidy352" - no @ anything. It does have an email address associated with it. But changing the email address doesn't change the account itself.

This whole Multiple id, iCloud, iTunes acct thing should not be as big a problem for most people as I usually see it made out to be.

I've been using all these services for a while now and I haven't come across a problem, besides the inconvenience of having multiple ids/passwords.

The only way i could see this being a problem is if you have multiple purchases on multiple accts. iOS 5 allows you to be signed into different accounts for different things.

I personally have two id's a MM acct and and iTunes acct. I had the iTunes acct first and used it for all of my purchases. Then i got a mm account and used it for mail and sync and whatnot. Now with iCloud I moved my MM acct to iCloud. so thats the acct i sign into iCloud with on my phone. For the iTunes store i am still signed into my original iTunes acct with my purchases(apps, music) for iTunes match i signed up with my iTunes acct.

All of this stuff works flawlessly and i have not had a problem. If i buy a new app I use my OG iTunes acct pw. When i login to iCloud, in the browser, on my phone, etc i use the mm acct that moved I to iCloud. iTunes in my computer is logged into my iTunes acct. Again this setup has been working flawlessly for months and i've had no problems. Hope this helps. Reply if you have a question.

so how the F do i edit the event on the browser iCal? its just adding a event, but i cant seem to be able to edit the name o_O

This is a disgrace...!

Why on Earth is iCloud compatible with a older version of Windows (Vista) and not with a x.x.2 version old APPLE OS!!!!!!!

Because the latest version of Apple's OS is fine tuned to run iCloud the way it's ment to run, not like a Windowz hack.

Graham, and does your media sync? So if you buy a new song with the iTunes account, it syncs seamlessly with icloud? And if you take a pic with your iPhone, it shows up on the other devices that sync with your icloud account?

Will there be a substitute for iDisk.

In reality I am just looking to store my documents and other things on a cloud based "hard drive" like iDisk. Is there nothing like this on iCloud?

Epic Fail

This is the start of a failing apple, they should have rolled this out to user's by section, I have several xp machines and snow leopard machines and now I can't use the service? Makes the iPhone 5 update almost worthless to me, I am downgrading back to the iOS 4 as I type right now.

I am thinking of maybe just going back to the exchange and windows world, it was nice but this just screwed everything up again.

Bye, bye apple.

Here I come blackberry! :)

Not dumb. I'm waiting for the answer to this too.
I already transfered my primary account to iCloud, and everything works fine. My email-only, secondary account still works under MobileMe, but it will not transition to iCloud.
I keep getting the "cannot move at this time" error. Or something of that nature.

i'm afraid not :( i cant believe they got rid of iDisk, now i'll have to rely on DropBox AND iCloud, i thought i could do it all on one service

Looks like it syncs to my iPhone, but not to iCal on my Snow Leopard MBP. An inconvenience, but not the end of the world since when I wirelessly sync my iPhone to my MBP the data will transfer.
