This whole Multiple id, iCloud, iTunes acct thing should not be as big a problem for most people as I usually see it made out to be.

I've been using all these services for a while now and I haven't come across a problem, besides the inconvenience of having multiple ids/passwords.

The only way i could see this being a problem is if you have multiple purchases on multiple accts. iOS 5 allows you to be signed into different accounts for different things.

I personally have two id's a MM acct and and iTunes acct. I had the iTunes acct first and used it for all of my purchases. Then i got a mm account and used it for mail and sync and whatnot. Now with iCloud I moved my MM acct to iCloud. so thats the acct i sign into iCloud with on my phone. For the iTunes store i am still signed into my original iTunes acct with my purchases(apps, music) for iTunes match i signed up with my iTunes acct.

All of this stuff works flawlessly and i have not had a problem. If i buy a new app I use my OG iTunes acct pw. When i login to iCloud, in the browser, on my phone, etc i use the mm acct that moved I to iCloud. iTunes in my computer is logged into my iTunes acct. Again this setup has been working flawlessly for months and i've had no problems. Hope this helps. Reply if you have a question.

Thanks for the explanation. I just want to clarify a bit. I'm in the exact same situation as you. At first I only had a GMail addy Apple ID for purchases. Then I had to create a new @me.com email for MobileMe. I plan on moving my @me.com MobileMe to iCloud for my contacts, calendar, and mail. So then I'll also be able to tie my other GMail Apple ID to it too as a secondary email? how does this work?

When I log into iCloud, I expect to use my old MobileMe log in. Is this correct?

However, when I make app purchases, will I have to use my old gmail Apple ID?

I'll have to remember to use different email and pw for each one?

Scared

I went through the "Try Later" screen once. In the second attempt, I got the preparing screen, but it got stuck there, for more than 10 minutes now.

I am scared.

UPDATE: It finished the upgrade. Now it is asking in my devices to complete the move.

anyone else's calendar on iCloud not using Daylight Savings Time? There is no option to turn it on, and all my times are an hour earlier now.

edit: restarted my browser and it seems to be fixed.

So I just read apple's FAQ on this, and in a word, yes. You can keep using the gmail address as your iTunes buying login and the cloud address for other syncing. Or you could just start making purchases with the mobile me address. I might do that so it's all under one - at least going forward.

Wow, Apple employees sure have been busy little beavers. Just think of the amount of coordination that has to take place behind the scenes to get all these updates out to us. Unreal. Keep up the good work, :apple:!

I'm transitioning to iCloud but have a group of family accounts that aren't ready to upgrade their tech yet (they are waiting on their iPhone 4S orders to arrive).

Do I have to wait for them - since I'm the master account or will they each be able to access MobileMe individually to transition over after I've already made the switch?

Anyone with experience on this?

I just don't want their accounts to get erased or something just because I'm eager to check out iCloud.

Once you transition you will not have access to manage their account. They handle their own transfer themselves. That being said the system seems to be having a problem with everyone trying to transition right now. It might be better to wait until midnight or thereabouts. I just received the grey screen message to keep using MobileMe for the time being.

Although they could still add support in the future. And they will want to if there's enough public demand for it and adoption of iCloud is slow.

Not to mention if they don't support 10.6 they're not getting $25 annually for iTunes Match from any 10.6 users.

Good Point!

Does iOS5 and Lion 10.7.2 work with MobileMe calendar? I don't want to upgrade to iCloud for as long as possible.

Yes for iOS 5.

I don't have 10.7.2 on my Air yet but with 10.7.1 I can't pull over my calendars. I get an error The connection with the server ca.me.com has been closed

EDIT: Now it works. My MobileMe calendars are showing up in 10.7.1's iCal just fine.

Graham, and does your media sync? So if you buy a new song with the iTunes account, it syncs seamlessly with icloud? And if you take a pic with your iPhone, it shows up on the other devices that sync with your icloud account?

Yes. If i take a pic with my phone it goes to my iPad. Because they are both logged into my iCloud(formerly MM) acct, under settings>iCloud on my phone.

When i buy a new song or app(with my original iTunes acct that i buy all my apps and music on and signed up for iTunes match on), it automatically goes to my iPad and iPhone and mac because under settings>store it is signed in with that OG iTunes account. On iTunes on my mac I'm am also logged into this acct. so it goes there to.

BAH. Waited so long only to run into problems (which is expected). Tried to Google the problem but no one seems to have the problem. Will try tomorrow. Dumb.

(First BBM now iCloud. What a bad day.)

Right - but that mobile me account id will not be associated with your old purchases only new purchases going forward- so how will that work?

"Macs must be running 10.7.2"

Confirmed. No SL love. Shame.

I guess I am going to have to export my 68Gb iPhoto Library into my Windows 7 computer because Apple wont support Photo Stream on Snow Leopard?

That sucks man, they can build an iCloud client for Windows 7, but not for Snow Leopard...

The confusion comes from everything being called iCloud now. My one question was how does it work for document syncing. Which account gets used? My iTunes iCloud account or my MobileMe iCloud account? I think it will all be fine, but they have been aware of this problem for a long time and should have addressed it. Leaving it a mess is very un-apple.

Thanks, that makes sense. I don't mind keeping the two separate ID's just as long as they're both tied to me without any issues of losing anything in the past (purchases, contacts, etc). Whenever I try and buy something on iOS , my Apple ID username is already saved, I just need to put in the password. That makes it a little more fool proof of not buying on the wrong account.
It just sucks to feel like I got the confusing, short end of the stick by signing up for MobileMe to begin with. Sigh, first world problems.

Yes this works great for me! I can share iTunes purchases with my wife and still retain separate iCloud account for email, backups etc.

Contrary to what others are saying, this rollout today has been flawless for me! Apple sure have thought things through. I was concerned about iCloud but now its here it makes sense!

As far as adding your gmail email to iCloud as a secondary, i don't know seems like that could make things real confusing real quick. I wouldn't do that yet until you get familiar with how everything works you may not find it neccesary.

But your right about logging in to iCloud with your mobile me and logging in to your gmail for apps.

The thing is you hardly ever have to login to your iCloud acct and enter your password. the only time i do it. is when I'm restoring and have a blank phone and have to enter it in at the very beginning to start the restore from iCloud. Or if i was logging in to iCloud.com. Thats it, it never asks for it besides that.

The only time you enter in your iTunes pw is when you are buying apps or music, and when you do it then the login part is already filled in, you just enter your password in. So really, in practice the only time you'll ever be logging into anything is when you first setup your device, and a Password when you buy apps/music.

I still cannot believe they dare to call this thing iCloud without any kind of iDisk support. Its a pity to still rely on DropBox

I agree. I think Apple wants to think that all files you may ever put in your iCloud account are managed by apps that supports iCloud, which we all know is not the case, at least not yet. And being able to share files/folders with others is also a cool feature they are missing - maybe in the future...

Exactly, Having multiple ids and multiple places to sign its makes it way easier to share apps. Everyone can have their own iCloud acct, and use the same iTunes store account for apps/music if they wanted.
