The migration process for MobileMe users will move Mail and Calendars to iCloud, and MobileMe users will continue to be able to use Gallery, iDisk and iWeb publishing through June 30, 2012 even though those services are not making the transition to iCloud. A number of syncing services that had been available for MobileMe, including Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items, Keychain, Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, Signatures, and Smart Mailboxes, and Mac OS X Preferences, will become unavailable immediately upon moving to iCloud.

Sorry for the dumb question, but can someone explain to me what they mean when they say that "Mail Accounts" will not sync?

Btw, they should give the ability to merge two accounts...i have a different ID for itunes and mobileme....

I guess I am going to have to export my 68Gb iPhoto Library into my Windows 7 computer because Apple wont support Photo Stream on Snow Leopard?

That sucks man, they can build an iCloud client for Windows 7, but not for Snow Leopard...

One can assume that, if they are planning to support iCloud in SL, it has been a far far lesser priority than getting it supported in Lion. It's gotta be in the pipeline somewhere. I just hope, if it is indeed in the pipeline, that it gets out long before MobileMe expires for good in June next year!

As far as adding your gmail email to iCloud as a secondary, i don't know seems like that could make things real confusing real quick. I wouldn't do that yet until you get familiar with how everything works you may not find it neccesary.

But your right about logging in to iCloud with your mobile me and logging in to your gmail for apps.

The thing is you hardly ever have to login to your iCloud acct and enter your password. the only time i do it. is when I'm restoring and have a blank phone and have to enter it in at the very beginning to start the restore from iCloud. Or if i was logging in to iCloud.com. Thats it, it never asks for it besides that.

The only time you enter in your iTunes pw is when you are buying apps or music, and when you do it then the login part is already filled in, you just enter your password in. So really, in practice the only time you'll ever be logging into anything is when you first setup your device, and a Password when you buy apps/music.

Makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think a real world example of conern was:
"If I buy Numbers (part of iWork) on iOS using my gmail iTunes ID for purchase, will it still sync to my iCloud that uses the @me.com email?". I was concerned there would be issues since it's two separate ID's.
However, it sounds like that's not an issue at all. Good to know. I'm not even going to try and mess with adding a secondary account in iCloud like you mentioned in your first sentence, might make things confusing fast. I probably won't find it necessary with it working like you explained it.

Has anyone been getting this error:

"the iphone "Insert iPhone name here" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred 3200.

I am trying to install iOS5 on my dad's iPhone 3GS and I am getting this error.
He has the latest iTunes 10.5 and is running Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Looks like I'll be doing the "not recommended" thing and using my existing MobileMe account as my iCloud account, and my Apple ID used for iTunes, etc. (a gmail acct) for purchases...

I've been trying to make the decision about which Apple ID to go with, but seeing as I just don't use my @me.com address for anything and only bought MobileMe for syncing and iWeb, I think I'll just let it fade away. Outside of a @me.com or @mac.com used for email or iTunes, is there any reason hang on to a MobileMe account? I can't think of one, but maybe I'm missing something.

Can anyone answer me this:

I use Apple TV to view photos from my brother-in-law's MobileMe gallery. If that gallery isn't making the transition to iCloud, will I know longer be able to see those photos after June 2012?

"Well, digidesign hasn't updated their software to work with Lion yet". Sucks for you. Should have been using Logic.

I know you're joking, but actually Pro Tools has better compatibility with Lion than Logic does at this point. Logic still has a bug on Lion where users who upgraded from earlier versions have to have the dongle inserted every time the app is launched. It was fine before 10.7. And this OS update doesn't fix it.

Nope, you won't be able to via MobileMe gallery. MobileMe will no longer exist past June 2012, so by definition there won't be anything for you to access. Between now and then, there may be an alternative that comes up, including iCloud or something else entirely.

For those of you who have the following setup:

1. @me.com for Sync services (i.e. Mobile Me acct)
2. @domain.com for iTunes acct/Apple ID (i.e. Gmail)

If you do not use your @me.com as your primary email but do use Mobile Me for sync services I would suggest to use your @domain.com to setup iCloud and keep your Mobile Me acct separate for now.

Later on we will find out weather we will be able to merge our @me.com email addresses into iCloud or if we close our Mobile Me acct we can reaquire our @me.com email address through activating the mail portion of the iCloud control panel.

That is the best case scenario at the moment. However, please note, this only applies if you do not use your @me.com email address as a primary email.

As per Apple FAQ the ideal situation is to have one email address for Apple ID/iCloud.

The hell they didn't- it is called iDisk, and it's going away. Who really cares if Pages syncs to the cloud? Over 75% of the planet uses Word so that kills that tool.

Oh, and Gallery- some people actually like(d) that.
BTW, what have they added to iCloud (iTunes aside) that was not there in a better form with MM?

Who cares if you don't care that Pages syncs to the cloud? The feature is "new". And I think it's fantastic, if only it actually worked for OS X versions of Pages. Whenever I get home from work I have to copy paste my pages documents from my laptop to my Mac Pro and it'd be really convenient if it automatically synced. Anyway, hoping that the sync will come to OS X iWork soon.

One good thing about using your MobileMe acct and moving it to iCloud. Is that you get 20gb free iCloud space for a total of 25gb till june 2012.

To the person who asked about document syncing. It will work with whatever acct your signed into iCloud with under settings>iCloud, regardless of what account was used to purchase the the app.

One other little thing, in the future when you get to the point where you were wanna restore from iCloud backup on the phone, use your iCloud/MM acct., don't use the acct you buy apps with(unless its the same). Once it restores it will have you signed in to all the right places with the right id's like you had it before.

So I just read apple's FAQ on this, and in a word, yes. You can keep using the gmail address as your iTunes buying login and the cloud address for other syncing. Or you could just start making purchases with the mobile me address. I might do that so it's all under one - at least going forward.

Right - but that mobile me account id will not be associated with your old purchases only new purchases going forward- so how will that work?

True, but why does that matter? Just leave your computer authorized on the old account and make sure you've synced the media to your idevices. I guess you wouldn't be able to use iTunes in the cloud to access your old purchases, but that's it (I'll never donthat anyway).

Still, they should really just allow account merging. This is silly.

Is anybody able to sign in to iCloud on their iPhone or iPad?

And is anyone able to go into their MobileMe mail settings on their device either?

Everytime I try these two things, settings will crash on my iPhone and iPad.

Quick question, maybe someone here can help me.

I have Apple ID/iTunes account which I use to download apps for my iPhone and buy songs/tv shows etc.

I have a MobileMe account which I used briefly but never really used after the free trial

And I have a Gmail account that I use everyday to receive most of my important emails.

I don't use my .me email so I don't see the point in pushing those emails to any device.

Which email do I dedicate for iCloud?

Could I use my Gmail account with iCloud? Thats the email everybody knows.

If I use my MobileMe account will it sync all my movies and apps across my devices even though I used a different Apple ID?

You would think they had figured it out by now........

has anyone upgraded to iCloud and tried using a snow leopard computer with these services yet?

Won't work, the iCloud options only show up in 10.7.2. Nothing to see in 10.6.

Bitch about third-party vendors not updating their apps for Lion all you want but I have no pity. They had a long beta period and it's been out now for three months. They should have already updated their software.

What does that have to do with anything? Many users have machines that can't be updated to Lion. And there are still APPLE apps that are still buggy on 10.7.

What's a lie? That page makes no mention of SL and specifically says 10.7.2 is needed. It's a bummer SL isn't supported, but Apple never promised it.

I also can't sign into iMessage or sync over wifi...

And to the guy above ^
I was able to move all my stuff from MobileMe to iCloud and I am on SL.

Well - its a big deal for me. I have a TON of music... too much to put on one device. Icloud should be great - as I can access past purchases as I need them on my IOS devices. But using a new one going forward would mess this up for me. http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2011/09/apple-icloud-sync-mess/
