What happens to the @iCloud.com/@me.com/@Mac.com aliases? I assume you get to keep them so really you have up to 6 email aliases, right? The original w/ apple domain and the 3 with personal domain?

As of this morning, the emails with custom domains that I set up last night now appear in my Mail app on iOS as a send From address. It looks like it just some time to propagate.

Says my email address is already in use, is that because I am using it as a forwarding address to my iCloud email?

EDIT: There was somehow an Apple ID associated with it that I'd never used. Requested to delete it.

I have Apple IDs in multiple countries that are aliased (radioactive@mydomain.com and radioactive@mydomain.eu) at Google Apps. It's clear that the two Apple IDs can't be associated with the same account, so I changed the domain.eu account to another random gmail address, and tried to move the domian.eu account to Apple.

I try and verify the radioactive@domain.eu email address into the domain, I get the error

Couldn’t verify your email

There was a problem verifying your email address. Try again later.

I transferred the domain by using radioactive2@domain.eu, but even after it's transferred, I am still unable to add radioactive@mydomain.eu as an alias.

I saw it's possible to delete the account from the Apple Privacy website, but it looks like something is stuck in Apple backend where my changed email address is not reflected. Any suggestions?

Update: The error cleared after a few hours, and I was able to add my radioactive@mydomain.eu address after changing the "radioactive@mydomain.eu" Apple ID to another (unrelated) gmail address. TL;DR, give it a few hours and you're good.

Good to hear. I set mine up late afternoon and still don't have them showing up on my iOS devices (beta) despite even trying to log in and out of iCloud to get it "kickstarted." I'll give it some more time.

I'm curious to know what percentage of folks successfully DO see their personal domain as an option in iOS

All setup, only took a few minutes and I now have my custom domain setup for family sharing use. Setup my mail and set as default and its working fine. Not sure what took Apple so long to implement this but better late than never.

Yeah pretty stupid! I set up my iCloud account with just my personal domain email years ago and still had to set up a random iCloud email for no reason what-so-ever.
You have to create an @iCloud.com email address to enable your iCloud mailbox. You don't need to use this address but it will be the underlying address on your iCloud account.

Can you send e-mail from that domain or only receive? If you can, are you using iOS and MacOS beta?

I have setup addr1@mydomain.de and addr2@mydomain.de under my account (addr2 is really for my wife but she cannot set up any addresses right now, just shows an error).

Under iCloud Beta web interface, I can send from addr2, but I cannot send from addr1.

Under my iOS 15 PB 7, I can send from addr1 in the Mail app, but addr2 doesn't show up. Actually both addresses work on iOS now, that's good. So hopefully we will get a new macOS Beta shortly where this works equally well, because currently macOS doesn't work at all for me.

Receiving works fine for all addresses on all platforms for me.

OK, so it seems one of the bugs is that the first address that you setup is not showing in the FROM field and you can't use it to send, only receive. I have the same issue, it doesn't appear in the mail app (non beta) or beta.icloud.com .

How do we report bugs to Apple?

I would wait until they have things a bit more sorted before you move work email over. It's going to be buggy for a minute. The changes should only be the differences between Apple & Google services - tags vs folders, calendars, Drive/iCloud, etc. You'd need to find a way to download or copy all your old emails so that you don't lose those when you move your service to Apple and close your Google account.

But the bigger question is, do you have employees that need email service with this domain? If YES, then no, you should not use Apple's personal domain email service.
There are additional employees. Your reasoning is the limited number email addresses per domain?

Signing out of iCloud and signing back in will also work.

Works fine for me. I had to sign out of iCloud and sign back in to get it to show up.

Possibly stupid question -

If I set up name1@domain.com and name2@domain.com, are these handled as completely separate email accounts on iCloud? Or as aliases of the same underlying iCloud account? And when I use Mac mail app (or iOS mail app) to access email, do these accounts show up separately (i.e. each with their own inbox, archive, trash, etc)?

Thanks!

I have the same issue. I just submitted feed back using the FeedBack App on iOS. I selected iOS and then in their you can select iCloud.

Don’t know if that’s the right place but that’s what I did.
Thanks. I’ve just submitted a bug report, too. Let’s hope they fix the issue. Would be great to be able to send emails from the correct address again.

Just added my own custom domain and then added an e-mail address on that domain to my iCloud account and everything works on the first try.

One huge advantage over Google is that we get push notifications for e-mail.

Wait do I understand it correctly that you can’t do it if your custom email is your apple is?
For everyone that has there domain I guess that they have signed up there Apple ID with that email.

I have…
I was able to set up using my apple ID email on my owned domain however, my family all used those domain emails for their IDs so I am confused. so I undid everything. There is not a lot of info on the help screens

Anyone trying this with a 1and1-hosted domain, I've discovered that 1&1 don't allow underscores in their CNAME entries, but the iCloud DKIM string includes one. It seems that people have been asking them to rectify this since at least 2018, so I'm not holding my breath for them to change this any time soon.

It looks like I'm going to have to change my domain hosting company, maybe to LCN.co.uk as I have a couple of domains with them already, but I don't want to go through the process and cost of transferring only to find it won't work with them either.

Before I do, has anyone managed to set this up with 1&1?

Edit: Having just been on a chat with 1&1 CS, they've told me they don't even support DKIM records. Time to find a new host!

I have 3 email accounts in Fastmail with my domain, iCloud wouldn't let me set up one so guessing it's because my son uses it for his iCloud / Apple ID.
I have the same issue here. My wife and kids all use theirs for their Apple IDs. Wonder what the solution is

Has anyone figured out how to solve "Couldn’t verify your email
There was a problem verifying your email address. Try again later."?

Anybody have this working with Fasthosts ? All DNS entries check out OK but still getting "too many hops" error on incoming mail.
Driving me nuts !

My main domain (Google workspace) is currently hosting my whole family (wife + 2 kids) and my 2 parents (on separate Apple family). For now I don't want to mess with migrating everyone.

I decided to try with an unused domain I have. I got it set up in Namecheap relatively quickly. I'm able to receive emails and send emails via beta.icloud.com however on my iPhone/iPad, I'm not able to send from the new email domain.. it simply doesn't show as an option either. I've tried numerous reboots as well as turning icloud mail off and on again.

I'm on the latest beta (as of today) on both devices as well. Seems like I'm not the only one. Glad I haven't moved my primary domain yet! That said... I'm excited as this will be the final step in de-googling my life.
i've got a similar family set up... I'm trying to find out if there is a way to transfer all the existing email from google to apple 'server-to-server'. ie-import or migrate it. do you happen to know?

Dumb question for those w/ Google workplace domains. What happens if I switch all the records Apple needs from pointing to Google Workplace to Apple. will I still be able to log into my google workplace account with the email address? (I realize I'll no longer receive emails there, but I'd like to be able to salvage all my "stuff")
