It's showing for me as well today. Still not able to use my custom domain with third-party apps like the Mail application in Windows 11. If I use my username@icloud.com I'm able to configure and I will obviously be able to read e-mails as my @me.com, @icloud.com and @mydomain.com are all using a shared mailbox. But I'm only able to send using my @icloud.com.

Seems like I have to use my username@mydomain.com when configure my e-mail in third-party applications. Which makes perfect sense. But when I try to do that I'm never able to login.

Dumb question for those w/ Google workplace domains. What happens if I switch all the records Apple needs from pointing to Google Workplace to Apple. will I still be able to log into my google workplace account with the email address? (I realize I'll no longer receive emails there, but I'd like to be able to salvage all my "stuff")

Your old stuff is not affected. The records are simply telling Apple that you own this domain, the MX records tells the public domain that in order to send you e-mails they have to be sent to Apple and the part with DKIM and SPF is just added security.

You will be fully capable of logging into Google Workplace and do whatever you want. Your old content is still living on Google's servers and won't be going anywhere unless you manually delete it or remove your account.

I get that the content won't go anywhere, I guess I'm more worried that if I go to gmail.com and enter in lordhamster@mydomain.com as the login... if the MX and other records have been changed, that my login might no longer work. If you are right, it will make my migration process much easier.

The bigger problem is now I'll have to migrate my parents from their own little Apple Family to my apple family if I want them to keep being able to use their @mydomain.com address.

I guess they haven’t rolled out the family sharing portion of this yet?

My wife and I share an Apple One account. I set everything up on my iCloud account and everything is working fine. I can send and receive emails from my domain. However, when I log in to my wife’s iCloud account the custom domain section of the settings looks like it hasn’t been set up and when I click the manage button it gives me an error saying “There was a problem loading your domains. Try again later.”

Anybody have this working with Fasthosts ? All DNS entries check out OK but still getting "too many hops" error on incoming mail.
Driving me nuts !
Same for me with a GoDaddy Domain I created to test this out. The verification is done ok and the entries seem to be sound but when I send a test mal it bounces with "too many hops" :(

There were some people having success with GoDaddy - could you post your zone file (remove your domain first of course).

thnx & brgds

Anyone able to set this up with a GoDaddy domain? When trying to finish the setup, it keeps saying “Check your SPF record”
Bildschirmfoto 2021-08-26 um 18.36.31.png

That seems ok with me - that's my SPF entry - host @ is essential here. I do pass the test but later on I only get "too many hops" from the mailer daemon.

As of this morning, the emails with custom domains that I set up last night now appear in my Mail app on iOS as a send From address. It looks like it just some time to propagate.
Are you running iOS 15?
On my iOS 14 iPhone and my Macs I do not see the new email addresses. I see them only when using the iCloud Beta website and my iPad running iPadOS 15 beta.

It will not affect login to gmail or google services, you are only changing the MX record.... this does not affect authentication only how emails are routed

Has anyone been able to get this to work with A2 Hosting? I think all the settings are correct, but I can't seem to get it to confirm.

Works flawlessly for me. Two accounts, two domains, receiving and sending as work fine.

Migrated my email to iCloud and my Google Drive to Backblaze, I can finally close my GSuite.
how did you migrate all your existing email from gsuite to cloud?

Has anyone figured out how to solve "Couldn’t verify your email
There was a problem verifying your email address. Try again later."?
I'm still getting that error message. I can get the verification email from Apple as many times as I want to click the button. It goes to the iCloud beta page and has the spinning circle and then goes to the popup about not being able to verify the email. I mean you literally sent me the email and I clicked a link, how is that not verified? I wonder if they had sent a code instead if it would have worked. I'm hoping it will sort itself out eventually. I'm not skipping the add email address part again and switching mail records and trying to add the email address at the end. That gives a different error and then I have to revert the mail records. I will just click the button to send a new verification email multiple times a day until it starts magically working or I go insane first 🤪

There is no easy way to do this. You have to add both accounts to a mail application and then manually move the emails from one account to the other.

boo. i'll keep looking for some kind of import/migrate tool...

Forgive me for the dumb questions. I'm kindof a "monkey see, monkey do" level of expertise in setting up domains. I do it once a decade and just do what I'm told. :)

The apple instructions specify the MX records (which I'm sure won't be an issue) but they also define a cname record and two TXT records which is why I'm a bit worried, but you've talked me off the ledge.

My fears about IMAP being inferior to Exchange ActiveSync even in 2021 seems to be true. When I mark e-mails a read on my Mac, my notifications won't clear on my iPhone or iPad until I manually open the mail.app on my iPhone or iPad.

People might consider this to not be a big deal. But it's rather annoying and I hate having to manually fiddle with notifications per device. I suppose this is a IMAP limitation and Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync is simply superior in this regard. I just had hoped that Apple had some magic stacked ontop of IMAP to make sure this worked more seamlessly between Apple devices. Feels rather dull to not have mail notifications behaving more seamless between all my Apple devices when the mail is living in iCloud and I'm using Apple's very own mail application on all devices.

Not trying to pick on you specifically, but why are you so anxious to make this move? This product is still in Beta. Are you really willing to risk your emails (and your parent's email) on a beta product? You do realize that you will HAVE to move you parents over as soon as you make the change. You can't have some users going to iCloud and some users going to Google.

A more general comment to those who are reading this thread.

Unless you understand terms such as MX record and DNS, much less DKIM & SPF, you probably should wait until Apple releases this publicly. Hopefully Apple will be able to document the process much better for the average user.

If you are anxious try Apple's offering, I would recommend you do not move a primary domain. Try it on a domain that does not get a lot of important email. Remember this product is in Beta! We don't know what Apple is going to do behind the scenes. Are you willing to risk missing important emails just try Apple's newest Whiz Bang feature?
