Why would Apple have changed the placement of the time and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/battery symbols on iPad if there isn't going to be a notch?
The other possibility is that there still is a notch, just that this isn't shown on the icon. I guess we will know in another month or two.

It will be really cool if they can get the 12.9 screen in a similar chassis as the current 10.5. What I'd really like though is a 14-15" in the body of the current 12.9. The home screen probably needs more thoughtful rework before something like that happens though. It already looks really goofy on the 10.5 and 12.9.

consistency, nothing more.
The notch idea is absurd. iPad can't have notch as otherwise it would be a lot of "no-buys"
It make sense on the iPhone X because of the space constraint and it was their choice (I didn't get it the X as I hate the notch on it + other things) but iPad is no way notch.

No way iPad will have notch, its just pure stupidity. (you can screenshot this for later) :)

Time to sell my current already unused iPad to buy this one as a replacement. I find it funny though that I am replacing it even though I don't use my iPad as much as it is. I use my iPhone and my MacBook a lot more.

Same. I ended up selling mine and not really missing it.

Ok. I agree.

Bringing TouchId (years ago), FaceID (last year to iPhones, speculatively but almost certainly this year to iPads), VR and AR is exactly what they have been doing. What makes you think they’ve just stopped there? You seem to be asking for what, exactly, is already happening and will continue to happen. I don’t understand where you’re going with this.

I feel like I must be missing something here because what I got from your post was, “Hey Apple, why don’t you do $THING_YOURE_ALREADY DOING. I really want you to do $THING_YOURE_ALREADY DOING“
Ok. I agree.

Yeah, my bad. I meant to say that companies should bring faster-to-market such innovations like TouchID/FaceID,VR, AR , etc and any other such innovations - i wasn’t implying only Apple though, I was talking in more general terms, including other companies as well

I still prefer the Hone Button, but if the new iPad has NO (stupid) notch, I'm in! Cool news, if true.

If the iPad doesn’t have a notch, then why would the iPhones continue to have a notch??? Weird...

Not to be a downer of the news, but the iPad Pros will look exactly like the leaked photos suggest. It kind of sucks that we get all of these leaks now. Nothing is a surprise anymore.
Um... if you want to be surprised, then why are you visiting this site known for posting such stories about leaks, etc. Your comment makes no sense.

You said “nothing is a surprise anymore” - then try staying off the tech sites and wait for products to be launched to be surprised.
That doesn't mean I have to ignore all tech news. I'd have to live under a rock to not see Apple product leaks somewhere. Why is this such a point of contention with some user here. I said it sucked nothing is a surprise. It is what it is. Jesus.

What aspect ratio change? I made a screenshot of the icon, cut out the display part and it exactly fills the screen of my iPad …
Then I guess... ‘you’re cutting it wrong’. The old design icon should fill an existing iPad screen, while the newer icon doesn’t.

You’re crazy if you think Apple is giving us a “peek” at an unreleased device.
Not really! History taught us that Apple continuously uses controlled leaks and this is most likely one of them.
This is what Apple does

You guys are all misunderstanding my post. You don't have be a forum member on this website to see rumors and leaks. DO you guys actually read any other tech based website online? It may surprise you to know that tech leaks related to Apple aren't just released here...

No we're really not actually. To answer your question of course I do this is stating the obvious here. For a rebuttal to your point I also know how to curate my tech news as to not spoil surprises. Here's an easy one for you to follow, you read the title of the article see it's something you don't to know anymore of scroll past it or don't click it, solved.

Certain times of the year be more weary as things leak closer to launch. For example Nvidia's new cards are going to be shown soon. I don't want to spoil the surprise so I've avoided anything of that nature. I have no clue about it at all. It's possible, but take a little bit of effort like not going to a rumor site for one... come on dude.

Ok, regardless of the icon, I very, very much doubt that Apple will change the aspect ratio of the iPad. Why would they?

That's fair. But again, I'm making a general statement in regards to the age we live in. Nothing is a surprise because everything is leaked.

Next year’s iPad is getting screen removed. Siri Voice will tell you what is going on on your device.

The spaced saved can be utilised for exciting new tech.

If this is true and the screen is home button-less and OLED ala iPhone x then this iPad should prove to be a great mobile movie watching device when away from a proper tv...awesome.

Anyone else think it's going to be a UX nightmare using it in landscape mode with no home button?

This is not samsung so not really. Plus, i have the iPX and its fine in landscape mode without the home button. The swipe up 'line guide' is available on landscape mode as well. I'm sure with Apple's interpretation it'll be flawless.

Okay, that's great and all, but can someone please do some more iOS 12 digging and see if they can find anything that relates to a new iPad Mini!! Please????? :D

So... if it’s in the 12.0 beta now, does that mean the product will be available when iOS 12 is released???

Otherwise, the icon would be reserved for a 12.1 or 12.2 beta right?

. Just fanboy dreaming...

You are correct. I downloaded the jpg and took measurements of both screens shown on the icons. They are both the same aspect ratio, approximately 4:3. Neither icon is the aspect ratio of the iPhone X which I believe is in the neighborhood of 19:9 or the iPhone 8 which is 16:9.

I have no idea if these tiny icons are accurate in terms of aspect ratio, but they both definitely depict the same traditional iPad ratio of 4:3. I know there is a bit of an optical illusion when you just glance at them, but try taking some measurements and then converting to standard aspect ratios of either H:3 or H:9. The icon screens are definitely 4:3 (or 12:9).

Well it’s rumoured to launch with new iPhones

Both screens depicted in the two icons have the same aspect ratio, approximately 4:3. That’s the same aspect ratio as current iPads. If accurate, then Apple is indeed sticking with the traditional screen ratio for iPads.......however, it is also entirely posssible that the second icon doesn’t accurately represent the aspect ratio of the upcoming iPad Pros. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
