Can't believe I missed it. Why would they approve it only to yank it shortly thereafter?

Hopefully the issue is with the included "abandonware". Just give me the DOS emulator by itself, please.

just nabbed it

Got it on my iPhone App Store about 15 minutes ago...but it's not listed anymore. I'm in Canada. (and yeah, useless on the phone, need a bigger screen to use the virtual kb).

They'll probably allow it again if he simply removes the included "Abandonware".

I jumped in immediately and got this (yay!)

How does the mouse support work? Does tapping work like a mouse?

I saw it, thought about getting it, didn't, changed my mind, went back, and it's gone. :( I really ought to just plunk down the $.99 next time.

I've waited on apps like this before, only to see them pulled. Not this time.

Runs pretty well. I've got old-school Oregon Trail working great. And Windows 3.1. Practical? No, not at all. But the geek-factor is hard to resist.

Dude, this is awesome.

I run DOSBox on my MacBook Pro so I can run Windows 3.1.

This way, I can play Ski Free and Jezz Ball.

It's gone folks.

I am glad I grabbed it. I am going to try and get an old D&D gold box game going on it.

Same here - I wasn't sure if I'd even use it, but for £0.59 I thought I'd grab it before the inevitable removal by Apple

Anyone asking for other emulators, why not find an emulator that runs on dos? I'm not sure what's out there but there are some.

A buddy gave me the heads up and I managed to get it on my iPhone, but I didn't have wifi here at work to get it onto my iPad... Guess I'll have to wait until I am home to sync the iPhone to my Mac Pro, then once it's on iTunes I can sync it over to the iPad...

Hmm... Now where did I put all those old 3.5" floppies? (and more importantly, do I even OWN a floppy drive????)

Well after digging out an old 'Windows 3.11' .zip on my MacBook (I knew I saved it there for some reason!) I was able to install Windows 3.11. The install took about 10 minutes or so. Mouse support worked fine during the installation, but it seems to have stopped working once I got to the desktop. I'm sad to think that there will be no updates to this App since it was pulled, but I'm happy I got it. Maybe they'll allow it to be re-submitted after some tweaks, but it's doubtful.

The iPhone version is fun, but it feels cramped. The iPad version is great, plenty of room for screen & keyboard. Maybe we'll see a return of this App in the future, but for now I'm glad I bought my copy so I can fool around and have some old-school fun. :D

For the install I made a folder inside a folder. 'Win31' and inside that 'WinInst'. WinInst was the root folder with all of the Windows installer files inside of it. I renamed the 'Win31' folder to .app so it was 'Win31.app' which allowed iTunes to upload it to the iPad. Then in DOS I used the REN (rename) command to remove the .app (I think it was: REN C:\WIN31.APP WIN31).

Then I dug down into the directory and started the Installer setup C:\WIN31\WININST\SETUP.EXE. The install took about 10 minutes as I said before. You can NOT just use an .ISO file. You must move it to a folder or maybe a .Zip file. DOSBox can unzip files, but I don't think it has any support for .ISO files. Also it should be noted that doing a simple 'unzip archive.zip' command will unzip the file into the main directory, easily making a mess of things. So keep your folders/files organized. :)

It’s gone indeed, and there I thought Apple wised up… Actions like this give the jailbraking crowd even more reason to jailbreak and the haters to hate. Rightfully so!

I just downloaded that app from insta..... but what i get it just a black screen where i can type something, what should i type to get windows 3.0 and games??

You can add more with itunes.

You must type in commands to do anything in DOS. Look online for some DOS guides or tips, it's not that hard to figure out. :) To install Windows 3.x you must get the files from disks or another source and put them on the iPad via iTunes. The same with games.

iDOS has two games built-in, Dig Dug and Ms. Pac-Man. To access them type the following at the C:\ prompt:

(I'm showing you a list of my commands, some of this has already been typed in for you by the program, ignore text in parentheses. After typing a command press 'Return')

C:\>cd games (changes the directory you are in to the GAMES folder)
C:\GAMES>dir (shows the files in the directory)
C:\GAMES>DIGDUG.COM (Will launch the game)

Hint: Hit TAB when typing a file and it will auto complete the name

I don't understand the process in place that allows an app to receive approval, and then literally an hour or two later the approval gets rescinded. Their approval process seems so stringent to begin with, how can anything make it through that's revoke-worthy?
