I predict a very expensive 128GB model, and the axing of the iPod Classic.

----------

128 GB memory would be HEAVEN.

That's all I'm asking. Plus a better RAM because the coverflow is laggy.
I really don't use the coverflow that much but there will always be one time (in a blue moon) that you would want to scan albums in the coverflow. The coverflow is beautiful and it would be better if you can view them without any lags. :)

Its not just coverflow, everything is laggy.

Aaaah...I hope the Classic doesn't go away, or it gets an update, like flash + larger screen + internal speaker or something.

More capacity (128GB version) would be good. Speed bump for internals too, Siri, and some of the features the new iPhone will have.

Sounds like you are happy enough with your iPod touch - great, but I'm glad you aren't in charge of iPod innovation at Apple otherwise it seems like you'd give it a rather lengthy lifecycle.

The Macbook Air 11" baseline isn't even 128GB.

So I doubt they will make the itouch 128GB.

It's looking more and more like the new Touch will be called the iPad Mini.
The mini is now said to
1: Be as thin as the Touch
2: Have a thinner side border like the Touch
3: Sell in the $200-$300 price range like the Touch
4: Be easy to hold and carry like the Touch and with the narrower shape will fit in a purse and possibly into a large pocket - jacket or coat perhaps.
5: Be introduced in the September event which was when the Touch used to be.

I expect the old Touch to continue to be sold as it currently is. I said some time ago that a new design touch was needed and it probably would not look like the old one and have a different name.

Looks that way. The rumoured weight is a good enough indication and with the touch having been marketed as a gaming device for some time now, a larger screen would be a radical departure and one that i expect to be successful if everything falls into place.

I don't have that kind of lag on same iOS device.

#4 is impossible. A 7" tablet is NOT the same as an iPod Touch. It won't be as portable nor will it be able to be used in the same circumstances.

Other than that, I agree with everything else.

Nope. I was planning on upgrading last year, but because nothing new was released, I held on to my 8GB (which for my use, is too small of a capacity). Hoping they release a brand new model and get rid of the 8GB in place of a 16GB.

The iPad Mini is not going to be replacing the iPod Touch, no one wants to carry around a 7.85" tablet to play music or just to check what time a movie starts.

The iPod Touch is in its own niche of the market. The competition thinks so too, Samsung makes the Galaxy Player 4.0-5.0.

I think we will see a update to the iPod Touch with screen update, ram update and iPad 2 processor specs.

I really don't think we will see the iPod Touch go to 128GB this year I mean at this point it has been 3 years since the device has seen a capacity update and Apple seems to be in no hurry to do this.

The iPod Classic is not likely to go away either because its a cult hit, I mean its the 2nd hottest selling iPod and that really says something for a device that hasn't seen a real update since 2007. (This is strictly based on top mp3 player sales on sites like Amazon, I don't actually know for sure if its the 2nd best selling iPod or not but it seems that way).

I don't know what Apple will do with the Touch and anyone who says they know is probably wrong.
I do find it interesting how appleinsider talked about the iPad mini in terms that included the Touch so often:
http://www.appleinsider.com/article..._could_resemble_be_as_thin_as_ipod_touch.html

I think the signs are pointing to Apple deciding to move on from the Touch. They skipped last years update which was the handwriting on the wall so to speak. Fact is you can buy a better Touch than the actual Touch by picking up a used iPhone off contract. I predicted that the used iPhone market at some point would start to cannibalize the Touch market and if they bring out the iPad mini, that will take the people who want a larger device that is still easy to hold in one hand. Those people left don't represent enough of a market to develop a new device for, in my opinion. I'm not saying the Touch is going away just that it will be static like the Classic for those who really want one.

I'm sorry but a 7 in tablet cant replace an iPod touch. The iPhone and iPod touch are two separate markets. There will be another iPod touch.

I sure hope not. It was dated when it launched two years ago...

I mean I hope it gets updated to match the iPhone again, or at least the iPhone 5.

4g I great with iOS 6

[/COLOR]I don't know what you guys are complaining the 4g is fast maybe sometime not often it lags and freezes. IOS 5 used to crash a lot. But now I'm running iOS 6 beta 4 and it runs smoothly and fast. There is like no crashes in safari like there used too in iOS 5.1.1 crashes on iOS 6 happen once in a blue moon. My 4g works great. I would like a faster processor and a better camera but for he most part it very good

Geez, mine is slow as dirt. I think it was a tad faster on iOS 4, I'd assume because of RAM requirements, but my 3 and 4 are both slow as dirt. My iPad 2 feels slow anymore. Not much RAM plus even the A9 is dinky, let alone the A8.

My white 64gb iPod touch is a pos with iOS 5.1. All it does it crash. Springboard crashed about 20 minutes ago just using the DI.fm app and just moving apps into folders. This thing is already messed up because of iOS 5. With iOS 6 it will be worse because of the sucky lack of ram.

Either they release a new touch next month or I will be getting the new iPhone contract and all with Sprint. I am tired of waiting for T-Mobile to offer the iPhone.

Doubt that too. The performance is only going to get worst with iOS6.
Not necessarily true. If the hardware is not updated, then not all of the capabilities of iOS6 will be available on the Touch. As such, the performance will be as good, if not better, than how iOS5 runs (assuming iOS6 includes additional optimization beyond 5).

My 4th Gen iPod Touch started out with iOS 4. And performance improved with each subsequent iOS update.

In my experiences, I have not seen the iPod Touch perform noticeably worse than the same app on the iPhone 4. But I have seen poorly written apps have poor performance and crash on the Touch (that worked acceptably on the iPhone).

FYI: My experiences do not negate yours if you experienced something different.

Your kidding right. I never owned a iPhone but I see people using them. Everything is snappy.. All I know is that iOS 4 ran the iPod Touch 4g great. iOS 5 sucks more than anything with the iPod Touch 4g so iOS 6 is going to be worse. Apple does this on purpose forcing you to update the iOS but making it that you can't no longer downgrade it so you are forced to get the new iPhone with a contract which I might do so Apple wins either way.

I'll stand by my first hand experiences with both an iPod Touch and iPhone 4 rather 2nd hand leering at others. :p
