I don't own an iTouch and really have no interest in them. I didn't think they were even all that popular...till yesterday.

Was out with the wife and kids on vaction and there were iTouch's everywhere. It was crazy. I never knew there was that many in circulation. People were using them for cameras, movies, games...everything.

It made me rethink my position on the iTouch. Not only should Apple make a 5th Gen, but make it a beast.

4.5" to 5" screen, and dump in all the iPhone 4S hardware; CPU, GPU, camera, RAM. There are so many options for people that want a smaller iPod, so upping the size should not be an issue.

If they don 't release a new iPod Touch then I will be getting a iPhone contract and all and will wait until T-Mobile offers it if they ever do. If not I might go with Sprint.

Would I be content? No! Would I be surprised? No. I said a year ago that the Touch was on a death watch. If Apple comes out with an iPad Mini there is even more reason to remove the Touch from the iPod line. I could see a new iPod Nano with IOS stepping up to replace the Touch.
We will find out in September. It will be a very interesting month for Apple products.

What's the point of an 8" tablet? I guess I don't understand why we need something so close in size to something we already have.

I will be content because I will get the 7.85" tablet. :)

Me too. I love my iPad 3rd Gen for home or traveling but it is just too big for walking around with and setting on tables. The 8" tablet would be much more practical to use in public. My main use for my Touch now is to hold my iTunes collection so I can play my music in the car. I have a 5th Gen Nano I use in the gym or walking around. All the Touch has going for it now is the 64GB storage and that could be replaced by a different iPod easily if Apple wanted to.

Thanks-interesting, though I still don't get it. The Nexus 7 seems too big to pocket, so at that point, why settle for 8"?

My 3G struggles. with IOS5.

I did not buy a 4G last year because of lack of decent camera. Give me a 3mp or better yet 5mp.

I want to use ios6 but not sure I will buy an ipod 4g

I suppose everyone's definition of "decent" varies widely: My Sony camera has a 20MP sensor, making a 5mp pretty lame on an iPod. How about Apple bumping up the camera resolution to at least 12-14mp?

The type of sensor is different too. What's used on these types of products is super low end. A quality 3.2MP sensor is going to easily destroy these types of sensors integrated into phones and the like.

It's both. 512MB is crippling. 256 is absurd.

And an 800MHz A8 is incredibly slow. It was great in 2009, but it's a good 3 years out of date now.

The closer and closer we get to Sept, with no rumors about an iPod Touch . . . the more concerned I am that the iPod Touch is dead.

I will never buy a 7" or whatever iPad. I need something that fits in the jeans pockets.

I think there should be some rumors about an iPod Touch by now.

I continue to believe that the iPod Touch is going into "steady state" ala iPod classic.

Look at this forum, they moved the iPod Touch sub forum down below the iPad. ;)

Well I say no rumors and then look at the front page.

ANd lo and behold, the front page says, we have no clue what is going on with the touch.

I really hope we get a new iPod Touch. I need a new one.

Edit: Dammit. And a second and third article on the iPod Touch.

Can they just make it and take my money please.

All I want is an iPod touch that has a micro sd card slot for extra storage.
Unfortunately this will never happen. Apples greatest fear is losing control over their customers. When you've called the shots for as long as they have, there's no turning back. Power, control, manipulation & money are the elements that thrill Apple & line their pockets with billions. It's good to be Apple. :)

Maybe. I wish that they could bump the clock speed in an update, the iPad 1 scores a whole 50 points higher than the iPhone 4 and it has 256 mb of ram. I am pretty sure the a4s top clock is 1.2 ghz

I'm starting to hate my now 20 month old iPod touch 4G (that i got december 2010), mostly because the battery life is beginning to suck and the bottom external speaker sucks too! I'll be glad to buy a new iPod touch 5G (and I've got a good feeling Apple will likely announce it during september)....which I hope gains a few iPhone 5 features (4" retina screen, A5 or A6 cpu, and other good stuff). :D

thats the thing, just like lightbulbs are designed to go out so you will buy more, the iPod touch line is designed to have flaws in it so when the next ipod comes out with a better camera, screen, processor, etc, you really, really, want to buy it.

marketing ploys!!

but as for me, I'm fine with using a slightly older ipod that still gets jobs done. someday I'll pick up a 4g touch that was tossed aside for its slow performance and be perfectly content

I have a 3G iPod Touch. I passed on 2 year ago as my iPod was only a year old. I was ready to upgrade the next year. WTF White? Is that it? No way. Yep.

Now I am desperate for a new iPod Touch and will gladly shell out the money for a new IF there is an update. Esp give me Siri and a much better camera. Well ram, more space, and processor. I do not care if the screen size gets larger. I just need a new iPod Touch.

128 GB memory would be HEAVEN.

That's all I'm asking. Plus a better RAM because the coverflow is laggy.
I really don't use the coverflow that much but there will always be one time (in a blue moon) that you would want to scan albums in the coverflow. The coverflow is beautiful and it would be better if you can view them without any lags. :)

I'm actually pretty happy with my 64GB Gen3 Touch. I passed on the Gen4 because of the useless cameras.
What I am hearing about a possible new one while interesting, it just doesn't motivate me to want to buy one. Mine is in my car and until it stops working it's all I need. I've only got time and money for so many toys and an iPad mini is sounding more useful to me than the rumored new Touch. Remember the new Touch will still not have 3G or GPS while at least one rumor says the mini will have 3G (and of course GPS). Portability is desirable but I don't really need to carry it in my pocket since I have a phone there already. If there is a mini I won't be buying a Touch.

I like my 64GB 4G Touch. The only thing that it lacks is a decent camera (rear) and more storage capacity. I'd love to have 128 or 256GB to play with. I'm similar to the previous poster, if they come out with an iPad mini I'm giving serious consideration in switching. There are a few things that the size of the Touch screen just can't handle (i.e. too small).

My iPod touch 5th Gen theories:
  • A5 chip (dual core)
  • The same screen size as 6th Gen iPhone
  • Dictation over WiFi
  • Rear camera bumped up to 3MP (or the same 5MP as in iPad 3rd Gen if Apple are feeling nice)
  • No change to front camera
  • More RAM (hopefully 1GB, but probably only 512MB)
  • New (thinner) charging/syncing port on the bottom (if the iPhone 6th Gen gets it)
  • iOS 6 with 3D maps
  • Same battery life (10 hours)
  • Same price as iPod touch 4th Gen when it was first released (£189 or whatever that was in $)
  • Black and white colour (or "color") options
  • New WiFi and Bluetooth
  • Internal storage options may change due to increase in app size etc. (from 8GB, 32GB and 64GB to 16GB, 32GB and 64GB)???

What it will NOT get:
  • A5X chip (found in iPad 3rd Gen)
  • No home button or a touch home button
  • 3G or 4G data
  • More than 64GB internal storage
  • External storage slot
  • NFC (Near Field Communications for payments etc.)
  • Full Siri

I feel the first list may be a bit too long...
What do you think?
