I gave up waiting.

But didn't want to pay full retail for a new model that's about to be replaced.

So I went for a year old iMac (21.5, 1TB, 2.7Ghz model with 12gb RAM). Saved about £400-500 vs new and its in pristine condition, still with 2 years AppleCare.

Delighted with it so far, my first Mac. It beats my 3 year old Windows 7 laptop in any criteria I can think of and will be great for me for a few years, performance wise.

As long as iMac sells really great it will be stupid to delete it. Its still the best all in one pc that every other companies are following.
I realized that now that I have searched for an alternative option.

I see absolutely no chance of the iMac being discontinued.

Thank you, so the 15-inch: 2.6 GHz?

You don't reckon the lower 15 inch or the highest 13 inch would be enough to run the editing software smoothly enough?

On the lower-specced 15, horsepower will be the bottleneck for you; on the 13, screen real estate will be (or you can pay an extra grand for an ACD but I kind of assumed that option was off the table since you emphasized cost control.) :D

I really like the look of the Lenovo C340. What's odd is that the only non-Chinese reference to it on the web is on Littlewood's site of all places. I'd put money on it being an undisclosed pre-order arrangement... especially as it says it comes with Windows 8 which isn't officially out until 26th October.

The Lenovo B340 is worth checking out too.

If the new iMac is not released in October what will you do ? Buy a 2011 model ? Go windows. ? Or keep waiting ?
I have come to a sudden realization that if it's not released in October i don't believe there will be a 2012 iMac, so if it is not released i will be spending my 2.5k on a nice brand new canon 5D Mk 2 and save for it next year.

If no iMac then I will build a Hackintosh and then install windows to game. I'm not waiting past October.

I know some of you really need a new computer, and some of you just want the latest and greatest. I for one could never go back to windows, then I am ok with my current iMac at least for another 3 years.

Firstly I have to state that I believe everything happens for a reason & whilst I'm frustrated, I'm not in the slightest, bitter.

I always liked the look of iMacs & ordered three fully optioned 27" models in February for my business, to replace my current Windows machines. An hour or so later I thought to myself, "I wonder if an update is imminent".
Not familiar with Apple I found this site & that my thoughts were correct. I cancelled my order thinking that I could wait another week or two.

The time has come that I really do need to replace my computers immediately so it appears I'll be staying with Windows. :)

You know I would love it Apple would drop prices on out-dated machines, other PC manufactures do it all the time don't they?

apple to do anything but milk their customers for as much as possible (not noticing the impression they leave on people up in their ivory tower) is pure fantasy.

i have an offer to sell my old imac but like everyone here have no idea when the new one would arrive.

when the update finally comes its probably one of their patented pathetic updates making this all a huge waste of time.

It always amuses me how many Apple haters hang out here.

My iMac is still working fine so I have no problem waiting. If I bought a PC, I would just delete windows and install Slackware anyway.

Imac slips to 7-10 days

Hey everyone, I know, it's offtopic, but in the german Apple store the imac 27" with i7 slips to 7-10 days instead of 3-4 and the 21" with i7 to 3-5,too. it could a possible additionally sign of the upcoming ipad mini event. And gives me some hope for a near release :)

So, because you have an iMac already and don't need one, then people that need a new iMac and think that Apple are tossers for not releasing an iMac this year are haters?

What haters? Based on what I've seen on this thread most people love Apple, the problem is It's been 529 days, we are way past the expected update..

People just want to vent and let Apple know that we want to buy an iMac, but it needs to be updated, It doesn't make sense for me to pay full price for outdated hardware..

Frankly If we stop seeing updates altogether I can understand why someone would want to switch to Windows or to Hackintosh.. Many Mac Pro users have switched to a Hackintosh or Windows because of the lack of REAL updates..

I think Apple tends not to do that for their desktop line because they maintain their price-points from generation to generation. Only when there's a new model would they drop the price-point of their previous generation provided it even remains available. For desktops, it's unlikely they'd clutter their product line with current generation as well as previous generation models, so you're likely to only see one price-point for these kinds of products.

Not anytime soon. I noticed that Amazon and other sites are selling the iMac and Mac Mini at good rates. My guess is: Why update and cost yourself more money when you can milk what you have?

I tried messing around with some Windows machines but I still can't find anything that does it for me like Macs at the moment. Nothing against Windows, but I just find it so stale. Personal preference. Windows 8 I am going to try out but after seeing many videos and knowing pretty much what to expect using it I am not blown away by it.

Wish there was a 3rd company that was in between MS and Apple where they did their own hardware to the extent Dell does and had a slick OS to match. A hole there for marketshare I think if someone could pull it off.

MS made the desktop even uglier IMO. Control panel and menus on the desktop side are sloppy looking. Better on the Metro side though. On a tablet I do have slight interest in Windows 8.

After installing a 512GB SSD and upgrading the RAM to 16GB on my 2010 i7 model, I think I'm good for another 2-3 years.

Guys, there is not a single current iMac available at ANY Best Buy that I can find. NONE in the entire DFW (Dallas/Fort WOrth) Metroplex. I even checked stores in Miami and Tampa and... nothing! I called a few of those stores and they said not one is showing as "inbound" on their inventory. They have no date as to when they will arrive.

What else can that mean? I will be shocked if they're not announced this month.
