Chuggin' Along

I'm chuggin' along just fine on my early-08 24" iMac. Still does what I want it do do. Smooth and quick.

Sadly, I'm not sure I see an new iMac product in the tea leaves...maybe some spec upgrades, but no new product. Just gut feel, no hard evidence. With the MBP, the MBA, and the iPad, Apple may perceive the desktop as obsolete. We'll see.

In the meantime, I'm hanging with what I have and hoping the hardware continues to run.

If the 2012 iMac is not announced/released on the 23rd...

What will you do?

I hope we see more photo leaks by then. I assume these new iMacs are already being manufactured so that they are available for purchase within a week or two after the announcement.

But if not...

Not this **** again. There are countless threads talking about the same mundane topic. Over and Over and over............Im going to windows, Im building a PC, Screw Apple, blah, blah, blah.

Guys, there is not a single current iMac available at ANY Best Buy that I can find. NONE in the entire DFW (Dallas/Fort WOrth) Metroplex. I even checked stores in Miami and Tampa and... nothing! I called a few of those stores and they said not one is showing as "inbound" on their inventory. They have no date as to when they will arrive.

What else can that mean? I will be shocked if they're not announced this month.

There are still some near me, but no top 27", at Best Buy.

Don't rule out the entire month of October. Remember that Apple will also hold it's earnings call on the 25th.

Given my current predicament, if it's not next week, I may need to "borrow" something from Best Buy for some portion of the return period while I wait..

Oh that's a shame. Just died today? Consider this a positive omen. The new iMac must be releasing this month then!

That's no different than stealing, IMO.

I'll give you "abusing the system", but not stealing. They give me 60 days no questions asked returns because I give them lots of money on a regular basis, and I don't make a habit of using it, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Given that I plan to purchase my 2012 27" iMac from BB, assuming I can get what I want without BTO, then really they don't lose much on the deal.

I'm hoping. It really sounds like my 27" may be "announced" next week and actually for sale in November, though, if the supply reports are accurate.

I also just bought a new 2011 iMac about a week ago. I was falling behind with my photography work so I needed something to edit on and quick. I couldnt wait much longer. But also hoping that one is announced. Worst case if its just announced and doesnt ship till after my 60 days Ill just return my iMac around the 45 day mark. Get my store credit and apply it towards the new one as a pre-order. My work slows down around december so it wont even be an issue to just settle with my 08 MBP again.

I had done the same thing, and I also do not see one thing wrong with that. Almost even kept it, since I got a good deal, but decided against it with the rumors and all.

Now for something completely different: Ahh.

And what do you base this statement on? I'm against abusing the return policy, but with Apple's iMacs I will make an exception, and it is the customer's right to return their purchase for ANY reason.

I bought a 2011 about 3 months ago but returned it hoping there is a new model being released very soon.

These people are exaggerating and freaking out about it being "old" and not worth the price... doesn't make sense. I just bought one too.

Why would you even mention the price... if you're okay with apple selling macbook air for the same price as a macbook, even though it is inferior to what the macbook had?

dumb.

If the new iMac is not released in October what will you do ? Buy a 2011 model ? Go windows. ? Or keep waiting ?
I have come to a sudden realization that if it's not released in October i don't believe there will be a 2012 iMac, so if it is not released i will be spending my 2.5k on a nice brand new canon 5D Mk 2 and save for it next year.

Too unreliable and too much waiting for me. The Intel HD 4000 GPU seems to be able to handle everything I do well enough so I can use MBA or Mini + ACD/TBD. I'll save my pennies for an updated Mac Pro or build a Windows box if I have a reason to be more of a power user.
