I am reliably informed (I work in advertising and marketing) that a significant number of people who work for a number of differing computer and software manufacturers (other than Apple) are employed specifically to post on all the various Apple-related forums, extolling the virtues of Windoze Pc's, and dissing Apple, in an effort to persuade people to either switch from OSX/Apple to Windoze/PC, or to sway those who might be thinking of switching from PC to Mac, etc. It's a standard technique in so-called "viral marketing". These people are clearly employees of Dell or some other PC related company, and are PAID to start such threads. Don't waste your time on them. They may not convince the die-hard Apple fans to switch, but the overall effect of such threads has been demonstrated to sway the minds of visitors who are wavering in their decisions. It would be better if the moderaters actually banned such posts, as the forum is clearly called "MACrumors", and therefore all posts should be about Macs and Mac issues, not sneaky marketing attempts to thrust Windoze PC's under our noses under the fake camoflage of tapping into our fears by supposedly talking about MacWorld.

THANK YOU! You're one of only a few that actually get what I'm saying! Most of the time, if I said what you just said, I get flamed like crazy by other members and told to sit down and shut up.

I've stated on here before about such posts and how these really aren't rumors, cries for help for a dying computer, OR even necessary due to about 10 other threads that are related to the problem of a Mac Pro update.

For example, I spoke my mind about this in another thread and it turned into another poster telling me off, telling me I should "drink to calm my nerves or, if I don't drink already, that I should start drinking" and basically sit down and shut up. Needless to say, I reported that behavior because at that point the member wasn't helping and was actually breaking forum rules.

But back to the topic at hand, you're absolutely right. These are "trolls" that are hired or just someone with too much time on their hands, that come here to start flame wars on this site and it's (or at least was) getting really out of hand. It really isn't fun to come here on the Mac Pro forum and see 5 new threads going on about how over priced Mac Pros are (and really they are but do we really need more moaning and groaning when it's already been covered?) or my favorite, "I'm going back to Windows, OMG, I hate Macs. I'm going to build a hackintosh, etc. etc. etc."

I really think the moderators are really trying now to catch these posts and remove them because of the growing number of people that are getting fed up seeing them constantly posted here.

so this is just a place for fanboi mentalities is it? What's the point of that? You'll get no discussion on issues, just people jerking off over 0.06ghz speed bumps

If Apple doesn't sell what you need at a price you think is reasonable then don't buy Apple.

I don't think anyone is going to be able to convince you to buy something you don't need, don't want to pay for, or both.

I would imagine that Apple's development costs are rather high. As such, Apple is going to have to sell a product for a longer period of time to recover its investment. Buying a Mac Pro now is no different to buying a Mac Pro back when it was launched. It's a fantastic, stable, reliable product, and if I needed another one of the current generation I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I have an idea. What don't we perma-ban users who use the words: Windows, PC, overpriced, Vista, XP, etc. so that these trolls go away. Furthermore, Steve Jobs and the Apple Macintosh must be praised in the opening and closing of ever user comment. Emoticons will be limited to the smiley-face and Apple logo :)):apple:) which must be used in pairs to imply that the user is enjoying Apple's products.

...

Have you ever considered that threads like this pop-up because users have a genuine complaint? The Mac Pro has seen 16 months without a single update or price drop (addition of 8-core simply added a high end option). Completely unacceptable and inexcusable. Apple users deserve better and you can't blame them for discussing their frustration here.

The only people who shouldn't be welcome here are fanboys. They stick to there single view with total disregard for logic or other opinions. It's more effective to sharpen a knife with jello then it is to argue with them.

That's a good idea. But I think we could probably just narrow it down to anyone that uses the word "fanboys".

His point is still right. There are plenty of paid marketing trolls trying to poison the well, and it is hard to differentiate their posts from those of legitimately upset Mac users who have had a problem.

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence. ;)

Not necessarily. I work in the advertising and marketing industry, and I know for a fact it goes on. I personally have spoken to people who do it, both for computers and for other highly competitve markets. However, I don't have any evidence I can physically show people. I can't point to specific people on these forums and say what they really do for a living. If you think it isn't happening, you're wrong. If you think it isn't happening here on these forums, you're naive.

You just need to be aware it's happening. That way, you can be suspicious of posts that pretend to be praising Macs, but then go on to price and spec comparisons, and recommendations, even posting links to other computer manufacturers etc. All I'm really saying is be aware of it so that you don't waste your precious time (I'm assuming you've all got better things to be doing, right?:)) getting involved in a debate with some guy being PAID to argue with you.

I think you might be on Apples payroll. What's to say you're not?

I'm not seeing the connection between reasonable complaints and the title of this thread.

If nothing changes on the 15th my world won't end. I'm very happy with the current line of hardware, OS and peripherals offered by Apple. That said, I think it's safe to say there will be some interesting stuff made public on the 15th.

Have you ever considered that people should possibly do a search first, or a novel thought, maybe look at the already piling up threads that get added every singe day?

I've said it before but it needs repeating but it NEVER seems to get through to anyone on here --- I don't care what people post, I don't care about opinions, because an opinion is good and is open minded.

What I DO care about is the fact that every day it seems like there are new posts CONSTANTLY being put on here about "New Mac Pro Update When?" or "What if no new Mac Pro is released" or "I'm going back to Windows because Mac Pros are outdated." I'm frustrated because I'd like to upgrade with a new Mac Pro when they are released for my studio. At my studio, I have two G4s that need to be replaced and I've been with all these frustrated users but complaining isn't going to release a new Mac Pro sooner.

If everyone wants results, complaining on a Mac forum that Apple employees are not even allowed to read or review due to their contract does nothing.
Go to this website:
Mac Pro Feedback
And complain. Tell Apple what you think. Everyone is more likely to get results by going here and adding their 2 cents instead of going to a forum and complaining where Apple will never know what the problem is.

Yes, they are outdated. Yes they are overpriced for the hardware that's there. Yes they are in terrible need of an update. When you say they have a complaint that is in the realm of "my computer is broken and it won't do XXXXXX and I'm afraid that I'm out of Apple Care".

But when someone comes on here and posts that they hate Macs, that they hate the fact that a Mac Pro update hasn't happened, that Steve Jobs & Apple are abandoning professionals, that isn't a complaint in the sense of what everyone, including myself, is saying. That is whining. That is not helping because there are already posts that cover this whole problem of a Mac Pro update.

Don't believe me? Here are some examples:

Regent Street says deep stock of 2.66 Quad

Are Mac Pro's slowly dying?

2007 Harpertown Stoakley-Seaburg Motherboard With New Graphics Cards 8-Core Mac Pro

If it doesn't happen??

POLL: Mac Pro Penryn to all be 8-Cores?

What is Apple waiting for?

Now the point I raise is this:

Why can't everyone that has a problem go to one of these multiple threads and talk about it? Why do new threads have to be constantly started?

It's because of two things. 1. Is what graphis said, people get paid to bad mouth the update and Apple's slow response time. 2. Is that people can be lazy and either don't want to post in one of these threads or that they just want the attention from everyone going on about how Apple needs to update the Mac Pro.

I'm not the enemy, I'm not the one holding Apple back from releasing an update. What I am though, is someone that is tired, along with MANY others on this forum, that are getting fed up and frustrated by multiple threads going on about the failure of Apple in not releasing a Mac Pro update.

Sure, it's not ideal that so many people are complaining about the Mac Pro, but banning these users because they make a thread like this is absurd. People are free to discuss the Mac Pro here as they wish, good or bad (following forum rules of course). Those who hold a negative opinion of the Mac Pro have just as much right to be here as the rest of us.

The moderators haven't established a single thread or sticky to discuss the lack of an updated Mac Pro, so obviously they are fine with these types of threads. Write a moderator if you want to see this change, but otherwise it is perfectly acceptable.

Back on topic here, does anyone think Apple will give a reason for the lack of an update? They stated that Leopard was delayed because of iphone development, and one can assume that iLife and iWork were also. They should at least apologize to their customers, but I have a feeling they'll just cite some stats on how the Mac Pro sold phenomenally and the new version is the "fastest Mac we've ever made!...ever!... it just screams along!... boom!!!" Or they might do a silent update, ouch.

I think you might be on Apples payroll. What's to say you're not?

Yeah, you're dead right. Weird thing is though, when Steve stepped forward with my contract to sign, his black robe swayed to one side and I'm sure I saw a cloven hoof.

To apologize is to express regret for something one has done wrong. Does that sound like Apple?

That also presupposes that Apple HAS done anything wrong. From a business standpoint, they haven't. A lot of people here need to get a life.

Although I agree that Apple probably has nothing to apologize for, there is still something wrong when they can't update a computer line for 526 days (MWSF).

Well they're still selling well, they're still quite fast, they're very stable and Apple hasn't had to write any new video drivers.

On top of that, the component prices have plummeted, and so Apple is raking it in after probably taking a bit of a hit at the low price it was introduced at.

I don't really see why waiting an extra month or so is such a big deal.
When they do update it, no doubt it will be faster and more capable, and also a better deal. Such is life.

I for one am totally OK with Apple not changing their hardware every fifteen days. Having said that, it's about due, and no doubt will be here in a few days.

Ok well what do you want to discuss exactly? Yeah the MacPros need to be updated badly. Ok. You are going back to Windows? Again ok don't let the screen door hit you on the way out. You want be be convinced to stay? Well that is up to you if you don't really enjoy the Mac OS like some people do, great. So is there a point to this thread?

I've never asked for a ban on users that start these threads. I'd never want that for any member on here unless they've done something really wrong and have had multiple warnings. I've had a user personally attack me on this forum and I didn't ask for them to be banned. The most I asked for was the thread to be reviewed and edited based on moderators opinions.

I do wish that there was a sticky or at least a thread dedicated to this topic of a Mac Pro update and that moderators would then edit and review posts coming in to see if they are relevant and if not either lock it with an explanation why it's being locked and pointing in the direction of the thread that contains complaints about the Mac Pro update or merge it with another thread.

But back on topic, why clog this forum with multiple post dealing with the same topic? It makes no sense to me. Having a single thread dealing with this issue does because EVERYONE has the ability to post to that thread and have it read by others that feel the exact same way. This way it's more efficient instead of having about 20 posts that deal with the exact same thing.

*snip last post*
~Crawn

I sincerely hope you are promoting this in other sections of the forums as well. There are always, "Should I buy now," threads or of course the various update threads.

Furthermore, since the mods haven't made any effort to crack down on posts you think are repeats, it is safe to say that at the very least they think it is fine. So do us all a favor and quit whining about it. As you are filling these threads will useless discussion in your attempt to play mod. And to be frank, I find you much more annoying than a billion reposts of the same general topic.

If you would rather continue your crusade, I expect to see a PSA from you in every section of the forums telling people to search and asking the mods to spend their time locking threads and give the poster a link to the "master" thread that covers their topic.
