I've never seen so much whining here, which is pathetic considering this is the strongest update to the MBP Apple has released in 4.5 years, and at the strongest value proposition in that same time frame. If you have real issues, which are bound to affect some units, that sucks and you should exchange until you're happy or vote with your wallet and just return it and move on. But the constant whining for days and days and days and pages and pages and pages is really old hat.

You hate it, we get it. Go back to your 2012 then and take a seat. Nothing worse than someone who complains about something over and over but does nothing about it.

Peace and tranquility are so foreign to some people that they're willing to create chaos in order to avoid happiness. If they hate their 16" MBP so much, I'll take it.. I would likely need to save money for years to be able to afford such a luxury.

Well Said!
Kudos to the Engineers, Designers and all the amazing teams at Apple and their suppliers for turning sand into this magical thing called computer that works quite well.

For perspective I often watch a show called The Computer Chronicles

how far we have come and possibly what the future holds.
Hope everyone enjoys their devices of today.

A post complaining about complainers. So much irony here. :D

In all seriousness, there are going to be defective units out there, or uses cases the 16" might not be well suited for, or shortcomings compared to the competition, and I think it's fair to alert potential buyers regarding what issues can arise. But there are also a vocal minority of people that seem to spend all their time looking for issues, and obsessing over / complaining about the tiniest things, while in reality the majority of 16" users are perfectly happy with it.

Been a lot of positive posts about the 2019 16" Macbook Pro. Some complaints too, but there are going to be some problematic units. Problems get posted here. The vast, vast majority of pleased Apple Macbook Pro owners never make it here.

Is there an official statement that there are ghosting problems?

Checked some units in the store and yeah there is / was also a difference in ghosting not that much but for that price not acceptable

I hate to break it to but this happens on this site *every* single time a product comes out. In fact not only does it happen on other parts of the site but on other sites for other kinds of tech too.

It’s the bs part of the Internet forum platform and it happens without fail. It will die down though as it always does and then the forum will quiet down.

Meanwhile I am going to enjoy a great new piece of hardware.

You didn’t? I don’t think I’ve seen much except whining here for as long as I remember. Any time there is a change - no matter what change - complains start rolling. After all, most users here come to went. Having a constructive discussion on MR is exceedingly rare occasion.

Nevertheless, I have an impression that the 16” is universally much better received than any MBP before it, the complains are rare and isolated.

If the T2 chip at the heart of the system is apparently faulty for many users you should definitely not be happy about that. When you try to silence criticism you sound like a cult member and that doesn't help anyone. It encourages bad design and malpractice.

Huch? Haven't seen any reports about the faulty T2 chip lately. There were some last year, where people were experiencing these random crashes, but that has been long patched.

If one and a half years worth of BridgeOS related crashes and popping sound isn't enough for you...

Stop praising a company that's been making gross errors to their pro-line for the past 4 years. When brands like MSI/Razer make better high-end laptops, people should complain.
I'd love for Apple to release a pro laptop worth buying, they haven't. Bad keyboard, PWM dimming, not even close to Adobe RGB screens... it's been a sick joke. The only thing going for it, is its OS, and that hasn't exactly improved greatly either. Luckily for Apple, the masses who all started buying pro laptops hardly notice, which gives free reign in making even worse decisions.

You and your post, are part of the problem.

I haven't seen any reports of BridgeOS related crashes in a while. Not to mention that people tend to misinterpret the logs quite often — T2 catches and reports errors even if they originated somewhere else. Not every error that mentions "BridgeOS" is a crash inside T2.

And what does popping sound have to do with T2? It is a sound driver issue and for all we know it appears to be fixed in lastest update.

To expand on my previous post, let's take this random example I found by googling:

2c7d26a4-b56f-4f38-b2c8-d2d75a88324a-png.802424

So it looks like T2 has crashed. But look at the panic string: "x86 CPU CATERR detected". T2 is not an x86 chip. This error originates from the host CPU and is an Intel error. The T2 is simply better at catching errors that otherwise would go undetected or unreported. But all people see is "BridgeOS" and they start complaining about these "new features nobody needs". Without T2 you'd just get a random crash without an error report or maybe you wouldn't even get that — just some hidden data or process corruption.

Then again, if Apple were smart, they would change how they report these errors so that it does not look like a T2 crash to an average uneducated customer ;)

Complaining is good. It betters the next product. If you write a post that makes forum members paranoid about posting a complaint or a problem, you’re going to stifle the process to better a product.

If everyone shut up about it, you get the same problems.

So as a mostly happy 16” MacBook Pro owner, I thank all the whingers who complained about the keyboard, lack of escape key, the thermals, price, throttling etc.

I do have a problem with fan noise and speaker popping that I’m gonna put up with on this model, let Apple hear it.

If you’ve got a problem with reading certain threads, don’t read them.

I've never seen so much whining here

..then I can only guess you've not been around here very long.

Part of the problem is that users will often find this forum because they have an issue or think they may have an issue. And its human nature to start a new thread on something because its important to us, regardless of whether there's already a thread(s) on it, or maybe they can't find it. The result is there's often a lot of threads about issues, particularly on the first page.

But you're right, if you're not happy with a product, speak to Apple and if its faulty they'll fix or replace it. Or if its a new one you can just return it, no questions asked.

As someone who's worked in technology all my life, I do find it funny just how much time some people seem to spend on wondering if everything is ok with their new laptop - be it the battery, screen, keyboard. Does it look/sound/feel/perform like everybody else's one? I think there's too much information out there and unless your laptop clearly has an issue, just get on with using it and enjoying it.

I love how active this forum is, but it can be frustrating at times. Just like real life 😃

You are undoubtedly correct, but that is a two sided medal. It all boils down to the quality of discussion. Unfortunately, many complaints found here are not constructive and create unsubstantiated paranoia. The T2 crash discussion is a great example. And even if a complaint is constructive, the final message is often obscured. For instance, there was a thread here last week where a poster complained about battery draining while plugged in. In the end it turned out that they were plugging the charger into a USB-C adapter that was not rated for full 96W charging instead of plugging it in directly into the laptop. But for an average reader who doesn’t bother to read all posts on detail, the message is clear: the 16” is not able to provide enough juice under load.

In the end, I think we need both the complains and the complains against complains :)

I remember that and it was good! To clarify, the user was charging their MBP via the Apple USB-C Digital AV adaptor, which Apple say you can do and haven't documented limitation to do so. I have the same port and I'm glad that user asked as I sometimes charge via that adapter when I'm low on ports.

Fully agree. These forums are unbearable as of late. I've been coming around less and less because it's just whining and bitching over everything. Too many people here don't seem to understand that nothing is 100% perfect, especially when you go looking for problems.

Heck, a post yesterday had someone complaining because "The fans kick on when using Final Cut." Yes, yes they will, it's the computer cooling itself because you're using a very resource taxing program. Video editing is a very taxing process for a computer.

While these people boohoo about nothing, I'll continue to enjoy my MPB 16'. I love it, its easily the best laptop I've owned (and I've owned a lot from Windows to Linux to Mac), and I'll enjoy painting in Mari or running Houdini to my hearts content.

I think some people need to stop being so defensive, if people have criticisms of the 16" or don't like it, why does it affect you? Do you need validation of your new shiny toy? No need for such hostility at people who want to share their experience.

NB I own a MBP 16" and don't have any real complaints, but also am not so emotionally invested in Apple that my feelings are hurt when someone else doesn't like it.
