Will you consider changing phones?

I would love a 4.5 screen. I use the phone more for searching for data and reading than as a cell phone. Bigger is better in this case.

please buy an iPad. Reading on an iPad is a million time's better than a 4 inch screen. It's a PHONE first. It's supposed to be portable. a 4.5 inch screen will require a bigger device. Honestly, have you seen some of these android phones that show off huge screens? They look like calculators. Currently, Apple does what they do the best. best user experience with everything integrated into one device. My cousin just got a HTC Incredible and he was using his SD card slot to put music on. Neither one of us could figure it out. It's sad the user experience and ease of use is put behind specs and bigger screens.

Well if that's what your cousin says then there it is. But seriously people have different opinions. I have a few friends who absolutely can not stand iTunes. I personally like it but it took me a little while to get used to it. I could see why people would like the basicness (no, not a word) of just dragging and dropping files though

yeah, I bet some people can use the android OS flawlessly with not issues whatsoever. I love iTunes because of the simplicity. I'm a tech guy and love this kind of stuff, but do prefer the simplicity of the iPhone.

The poll question answers don't make sense to me.
It seems like every answer has me buying the new iPhone.

Anyway, I have owned every iPhone since the 3G but if the new one doesn't support a 4G network, I'll pass.
I mean, why bother?
The iPhone4 is almost the perfect phone, what can they do to improve it aside from making it faster or more memory?

My question would be is why Apple, who is on top of all the best tech, is the slowest to release a true 4G model.

I thought AT&T would slow them down but that isn't an excuse anymore.

To who? No carrier will be offering unlimited data by this summer.

Not sure. But the fact that AT&T cancelled my plan (assuming they do, if they dont...I dont leave) will mean they lose my business. If I go to another that offers capped plans, so be it

Hell, I have wanted to try out some other phones. This would be my chance. If I don't like them, I will come back.

I've been wondering switching my iPhone to the new android phones.

Samsung Infuse 4G

I like how it has a 4.5" screen, 4G, shooting 1080p video.

I don't know much more information about the phone, but the real poll question is that...

Are you considering to switch to a different phone on your carrier if the new iPhone "5" does not really "amaze" you, or compare well to the competition.

Written answers below are greatly appreciated.

I suggest you switch to android. $50 says you come right back. The grass always seems greener on the other side till you get there and its green paint sprinkled on gravel.

Having had a 3G and a 4 for about two years, I was getting bored. I got a HTC Thunderbolt.

After going from a jailbroken iPhone 4 tweaked to perfection, this top-of-the-line Android phone struggles in comparison.

-Customization with widgets on the main screens is very cool.
-Cheap hardware. Kickstand is not a big deal but when you have it, you realize how convenient it is.
-Battery is awful. Terrible. No good. Miserable. iPhone 4's is outstanding in comparison.
-Speed on the 4 is just as good as any Android.
-Display is better than any Android.
-The big screen is nice at times, but a little annoying for the lost part.
-Lack of apps for Android hurts. iPhone has EVERYTHING.
-All of the supposed customizations that Android offers I didn't see. Maybe if you root it, but I can customize the iPhone as much as I want by jb'ing it, too.

The only other phone that looks slick that might make me stray would be the Bionic.

Going back to the iPhone 4 shortly...

This guy knows what he's talking about. I have seen the other side, and it ain't all it's cracked up to be.

It's worth checking out. There are some slick slick things that Android does that iOS doesn't. Just not enough to convert me.

Here is why -

- Don't always want to rely on iTunes for everything. It is a software where I find useful to organize by filtering my content, but also very unstable on my PC. I had to restore from backup 4X already that took 45 minutes to do just because the sync failed out of the blue.

- No OTA updates

- Many other smartphones can priced for a penny or $99 from non-carrier retailers. And many phones are very new. I don't want to spend $299 (+ $70 tax) for a subsidized phone anymore when I can spend a fraction of the cost and those phones pretty much do the same thing as iPhone and maybe slightly worse in other aspects.

- I need a replaceable battery and expandable memory slot. Having the memory slot makes it more future-proof instead of relying on the company to add more. 32 GB microSD cards will get cheaper by next year and the 16 ones is already cheap. Nomore paying an extra $100 for double the storage when cloud services is the future and I only need 32 GB anyway.

- Need Bluetooth data transfer

- Prefer a phone with the more common Mini-SIM to make it interchangeable with other phones when I travel instead of dealing with adapters.

- Don't want a phone everybody and their grandma and 10-year old daughter has. Don't want to have my 3rd consecutive 2-year contract with iPhone.Think different, remember?

- Nokia and Motorola outclass Apple in call quality. It is in their DNA already with several decades of telecommunication experience. They can make great "phones." Apple can make great "computers" and "software."

Here is what I'll miss from Apple that they do better than others -

- Build quality and aesthetics
- Great polish all-around
- Their attention to detail we sometimes take for granted
- Ecosystem with easy to purchase, access, and organization of your content
- Providing the media content and software updates easily and consistently
- A static UI is battery-efficient and less of a data-hog

I am trying to be aware on problems from what other OSes have. Android and WP7 can be data-hogs and battery-hogs with those widgets, live wallpaper, and live tiles running in the background. Android has a weak ecosystem from its fragmentation, lacks a Google music store, and can be a hassle to purchase and navigate through the Android "Flea Market." The quantity of apps is getting there, but not the quality. BB OS 7 and webOS is barren with apps and has to deal with battery issues because of Flash or its real multi-tasking. WP7's apps can be expensive.

I have to prepare myself with those type of issues and knowing their weaknesses just the same as for iPhone. I'm not much of an app whore anymore. I have more concerns with Android and WP7 being so data hungry with my 200 MB limit and eating up battery life in the background.

I can't imagine myself leaving the iPhone. I had a Motorola Droid for over a year, and it was a pretty crappy experience. In comparison, everything on the iPhone seems so smooth and functional.

Music on Android

As far as music goes its just as simple as the iPhone or even simpler using airsync (http://www.doubletwist.com/). I plug in my phone and it syncs with iTunes. No drag and drop crap like people are saying (altho you can do that).

One of my KEY IMPORTANT features for the iPhone 5 will be 4G. I mean honestly, if they don't, they are just getting even FARTHER behind. I was disappointed that the iPad was not going to be 4G, didn't convince me to purchase it..

I've tried other phones, but I just can't leave the iPhone. It's too good on the software side for me to hate it! Besides, I can't think of a single improvement to the new iPhone that I require, now that it has a flash and high rez, backlit camera. It's a beast!

I take it back.. I'd like image stabilization. Anyone know a good app that can incorporate the gyroscope to provide this for video?

Flash? Are u referring to skyfire? iPad really has flash with iSwifter. Skyfire is a joke.

Apple will not implement 4G until it is widespread.

I personally don't get the infatuation with 4G at this stage.

*shrug*

Speeds and Feeds. To each their own.

Camera LED flash.

Elitist much

I totally agree. 4G is big. Expandable memory is such an obvious thing, but if Apple only included those two things into the next gen, it'd almost be worth upgrading for.

Whilst that is likely true, the iPhone will become THE hottest phone on the market if it has 4G. They can do a lot of other tweaks here and there to get people interested, but that lone feature would sell millions of units for all of us geeks who care about it.

Everyone will always have their opinions, just like you said.

But I will say this for my opinion... iTunes and the iPhone make it ridiculously easy to transfer content back and forth. Soooo much easier than the Thunderbolt I just returned and DoubleTwist.

I am getting tempted more and more with the Sony Ericsson XPERIA PLAY every day.

And not because of the underwhelming specs or recent ads with Kristen Schaal who I find strangely attracted to -

I don't find anything special with Android that hasn't been done better with iOS (JB or not) and find the XPERIA PLAY bulky and ugly.

But then I see videos below that can make any hardcore gamer weep which makes me consider it again over the sea of slate designs...

Evo 4G playing Super Street Fighter II & Super Mario Kart

Please come to AT&T. Nobody wants to always carry a Wii-mote and I doubt Apple will ever make iPhone have a slide-out gaming pad considering their obsession to make everything thinner. I remember the struggle playing so many of those ROMS on my jailbroken iPod touch. The phone can be the answer to all those emulators found in the Android Market and becomes a retro gamer's dream of a phone. I have more interest playing 8-bit / 16-bit / 32/64 -bit home console classics than 95% of iPhone games. Many iPhone games don't hold my attention for more than a few minutes, let alone, a day.

for me it isn't about the best "experience", it's about needs and compromise. it's a phone, not a roller-coaster.

would i rather have a bigger screen? yes. would i rather have a notification system from the 00's rather than the 90's? yes. am i willing to sacrifice the ipod feature? no. am i willing to sacrifice the app store? no.

that's pretty much all it comes down to, and the con's outweigh the pros.

the perfect phone for me would have a 4" screen, android notifications and widgets (the useful ones, i'd replace the iphone "search" screen with a widget "quick glance" screen), the ability to install different (full) browsers and the rest would be iOS.

I'm really hoping that iOS5 at least addresses the notification system, I don't see how they can ignore it any longer.
funny how your first sentence says it isn't about the best experience, then every sentence afterwards describes exactly that.

Well.. if the iPhone 5 doesn't amaze me, I'll keep my 4. Where's the option to keep the phone you currently have btw? Not to sound like I'm sitting on Steve Jobs' lap, but I hate the Android OS. Too laggy/buggy and the apps don't even come close to the ones on iOS. Personal opinion, not everyone has to agree. And as far as specs go, I don't really care if a different phone has better specs. What's inside matters, but I'm not exactly gonna be staring at the internals of the phone. The OS makes the real difference, and for now, I'm happy with iOS. Not saying that there will never be anything better, but I doubt that anyone's going to make a new groundbreaking OS that'll make me wanna throw my iPhone in the trash.

oh yeah definitely. The iPhone will have 4G capabilities this year or next year. I see next year as "the year" because Verizon just launched an iPhone. They could launch a HSPA+ iPhone, which is more likely, on AT&T. Next year has to be LTE because they will be late to the game. Apple will do its usual numbers with this next phone, 4G or not.
