I see so much mis-information in this thread.

I have a family plan, 2 iPhones, 1 Blackberry, 2 normal phones. Five total phones.

Been with ATT since they were called BellSouth Mobility and featured the Moto StarTAC and it was the cream of the crop.

I have bought too many phones to count from this company.

I my self have gone:

StarTAC, A few Nokias, Sony W600i, Cingular 8525, Blackberry Pearl, Blackberry Curve, iPhone 3G.

And according to Apples web site, I have to pay full price.

there are a crap ton of factors going into this. when did you buy your 3g? when was the last time someone on your plan used a subsidy? all these things work into it. if you pay more per month it WILL speed up the process... but that doesn't mean it's only going to be 2 months. It might be 8, it might be 10, maybe 11.

So here my situuation, I'm not eligible for the subsidize price until 8/2010, but I think I found a way to get my 3gs, I have a family plan, 1 iPhone 3g (mines) 2 black berrys (my fiancé and my brother in-law). My fiancé doesn't mind if I upgrade her line and just keep the 3gs, so my question is if I do upgrade a line can I just swap my sim from my 3g to the 3gs and just use my number and my finace can keep her black berry?
I kind of have the same deal going here and I asked.

I think it is doable, but might take a bit of time at the store to get it done.

When is the last time someone used a subsidy?

Probably over 2 years.

We have 3 lines eligible for upgrades.

The 2 iPhone lines are not due. They were both bought FULL PRICE on Launch day.

As far as how much I spend a month? Well, 250-300 easily.

There are many people around here with iPhone 3G that are being quoted the full retail price (499, 599, 699) so please stop making broad based generalizations that aren't true.

straight from gizmodo

"Already the 3GS is incurring fanboy wrath: For 3G owners not yet eligible for a new phone, the 32GB costs $499 and the 16GB costs $399—even more without contract"

If they extend their contract another 2 years it is $400 and $500. If they don't want to add another 2 years it will be $600 and $700

Thanks for playing....

Um.

When I went to order one, it told me 600 and 700 and didn't give me a choice for adding two years.

Strange. Are they listing your upgrade day at the full 18 months? You also might want to wait a couple days while all the dust settles and AT&T and apple aren't swamped. Then go in and ask about your upgrade day.

Maybe if we all complain enough Obama will have a bailout for all the upset iPhone owners. You signed a contract like it or not, either upgrade and pay the extra or don't upgrade.

I think everyone just needs to SLOW DOWN. You can't even get the thing for over a week... it was just released a couple hours ago. Wait a couple days, and talk to someone at AT&T or apple, it should be $400 or $500 (if you have a 3g iphone and extend 2 years)

Getting the same message. Full upgrade day, 18 months from 3g launch day

Yea, I am actually going to wait until a few days after because I am not waiting in line again.

They have my upgrade date as 3/12/2009.

I bought my 3G on launch day. I was new to AT&T and when I checked my pricing options I'm getting the 299, 399 and 499 options with my date to qualify for a standard iPhone upgrade on 12/12/2009.

I contacted an AT&T supervisor and wrote about it and my recommendation not to upgrade for my Florida Times-Union/Jacksonville.com iPhone column.

It's called "I won't pay $217 more for an iPhone 3GS". And as I said on Twitter earlier:

iPhone 3GS. The "S" stands for "screwed" for current owners wanting to upgrade.

YOU HAVE TO OF HAD YOUR 3G FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU CAN GET THE 399/499 PRICING, LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AND ITS THE HIGHER COST.

the end.

F*** ATT!!! They are the biggest rip off carrier out there!!! & S*** customer service.

I dont see why we need to pay that much to switch sim cards and get a new phone, other carriers dont do this!!! Its like you paying extra $200 for no reason! If there were changes in contract, or something then fine but still!!!

All i got to say is F*** ATT!

People need to not buy the iphone and ATT will drop prices!

I never had any other carrier let me upgrade every year.

I bought my iPhone 3G on launch day as well and my upgrade on 12/12/2009 as well.

Why am i getting the:
$499.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
$599.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
$699.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white

I got my a few days after the 3G launch day and my account says that I am eligible for a full iPhone subsidy on 7/30/09, otherwise it's $299, 399, & 499.

Ok my mom can upgrade on like 6/26/09. Will AT&T let me use her upgrade because she doesn't want an iPhone so i can't have her get the 3GS and give her my 3G. Or will I have to cancel and pay the ETF and then get a new number? And is the ETF $175 for everyone or does it change?

ETF gets cheaper the longer you are into the contract. For me, it's $125 each.

Where are you guys getting these prices on the ATT website? When I log into my account and select upgrade, it doesnt give me prices. Just tells me when I am eligible for a subsidized upgrade which is not till December (I have a 3G).
