Everyone is waiting for this question to be answered.

If it does work, it makes the VZ version incredible value.

It works. I put the AT&T sim from my ipad2 into the VZW ipad3 ant the AT&T symbol appears (with strength bars). I haven't actually tried to set up service, but once I get my iPad 3 restored, I'll go to the setup page and report back.

Wait you buy pre paid AT&T iPad sims?

pop in your AT&T sim card (in this case my iPhone 4S's) update the carrier settings and bam it works with AT&T's 3G network.

It won't work with ATTs LTE network but this is great that the verizon iPad can be used with both networks and is an awesome fallback for iPhone ATT owners that if they don't get Verizon LTE in certain places!

There's a lockout on AT&T SIM cards if you try and put your iPhone SIM card in the iPad...

Excellent news!

Remaining questions is:
Will it allow you to use, ie:setup & activate an ATT prepaid iPad account online with a NEW & UNREGISTERED ATT iPad SIM (since yours was already activated on your iPhone)?

I guess someone else needs to answer that question.

I can see AT&T laying down the hammer on this. How the heck are they going to ripe you off if you do this.

What are the carrier settings that need to be changed and what exactly do they have to be changed to?

It looks like this is possible as well, when I go to the Data Account pages it loads the AT&T logo and info (instead of Verizon's) and simply says "The Device type entered is not supported" due to it being and iPhone provisioned sim.

So I see no reason why an AT&T iPad provisioned sim wouldn't work.

Go to this site unlockit.co.nz and create the profile and install it. Simple as that!

What kind of SIM do I need? Prepaid? Do I just go to AT&T and ask for one?

All iPad data plans are essentially "Pre-Pad" you just need to ask for an AT&T sim for an iPad.

So could I just go to Att and say I bought an ipad from someone and need an ipad sim? That way if I was traveling to an area that didn't hav verizon lte I could pop in the att sim and activate the faste att 3g.

Does an AT&T iPhone micro sim under an unlimited data plan work in the Verizon iPad (3rd generation)? You mentioned an error message that's displayed on the iPad.

There was an error message when i first put it in because I hadn't updated the APN settings to AT&T. And yes my data plan for iPhone is unlimited so it does work.

You'll need an AT&T iPad provisioned SIM card in order to use AT&T on a Verizon iPad. I listed out the combinations above already. iPhone SIM cards are locked to smartphone data since the iPad can recognize carrier software locks. This was built into iOS. So if you're really paranoid that one provider will blow up, you can subscribe to both carriers :D. Double the pain!. Why would you buy a Verizon iPad if you were going to be on AT&T???

Thats such great news. Now I don't have to spend extra per month on a Verizon data plan unless I want to use LTE.

Except that the post just before yours seems to prove that an iPhone Sim does work in a verizon iPad.

I absolutely agree however like the first "victory" you proved this part is still not completely based on fact (but close :)). I'm also wondering if one used a "real" iPad SIM if it would automatically update the carrier profile without having to go to that website.

Not really because 6 hours from now after continued use AT&T could flag it (like when people used SIMs without a data plan in the iPhone.)

----------

I told you this was the case. No way are they going to lock down a device that we pay an extra $130 bucks for.
Like I told you, I hoped I was wrong. ;) Still waiting for an unactivated actual iPad SIM. Also, it is STILL possible (but highly unlikely) for ATT to flag it and cut off your account. No idea what they would gain by doing that but this is AT&T.

Ok right. Sorry, I thought you meant that it won't work at all.

So now I think this is where we are:
1) ATT iPhone SIM does "work" in Verizon iPad
2) You may or may not get a warning and even a data service cut-off if you do it
3) AFAIK we still don't know if the warnings apply only to unlimited users. I have been unable to find a case where a non-unlimited user has had this problem. (?)

It's true that if you use unlockit.co.nz to use your SIM card from an iPhone. This however violates your user agreement and AT&T reserve the right to cancel you at any time. I got caught once with the original iPad. I'm still grandfathering unlimited data.

To transfer unlimited data to a new iPad you have to go online to att.com/ipadlanding, sign into your account and change your IMEI & ICCID numbers to the new information. When you change the ICCID number it permanently disables the current sim.

I don't know what would happen if you just change th IMEI number without changing the ICCID number.
