  • Nobody wants to rent music.
Seriously?? I personally don't rent it, but c'mon.
  • Nobody wants to watch videos on a small screen.
Seriously?!?!? You must be even older than I am, 'cause YouTube and mobile are inseparable.
  • Nobody wants a phone where your fingers can't reach across the screen while holding it (with that same hand)
SERIOUSLY?? You must have the longest fingers ever, or you are not human...this is the Internet after all. No one knows what anyone is. Every phone requires a different grip than the iPhone 4/5/SE.

You do realize I was paraphrasing past statements from Apple executives, right?

LOL. Dang. I guess I have fallen into 'knee-jerk' territory. Thanks for the clarification.

I get the irony now... :)

Trust me, I know exactly what you meant. Not my first day in MacRumors.

Whatever, man. I know it's hard, but the pom-poms will give you hand cramps if you don't put them down.

I’m not sure I understand Apple customers who also buy IKEA. They are willing to buy the most premium electronics and the absolute least premium furniture. IKEA has some clever designs but the quality is pathetic.
As a buyer of Apple and IKEA products, I can tell you that while the quality of IKEA my not be great, I own and use my IKEA products WAY longer than I own and use my Apple products... I've gone through three iphones in the time I've had my IKEA coffee table.

I have this ikea charger that mounts on a desk surface. Now I keep my phone on this spot on my desk and have not worried about my phone battery level ever since then. If only the app debugger would work without usb also.

I had my first wireless charging phone in 2011, you were even later to that game than Apple is to yours.

Oh, and wireless charging was practically useless to me...it wasn't prolific enough to use anywhere that I didn't carry all the usual gear PLUS a charging plate. That's about to change.

You know, you need to take a close look at the first responses to the iPhone. No other companies even caught up to using glass for at least a couple of years. Samsung dropped the Omnia II as its flagship TWO years after the iPhone, still with resistive touch. They tried very hard to market it like an iPhone though.

Many companies insisted that a QWERTY keyboard was still necessary as well.

Inductive charging can be a nice option but it's nowhere near a necessity.

You mean, like first to the party with payment processing that everyone copied just a couple of years ago? Or, like, first to the party with actual secure biometric face scanning? People really like to pick and choose when it comes to Apple innovations to fit their views.

I used it in my house, car, office... no idea how it was not useful because of some random 3rd party location. No, once Gorilla glass filled the void it was adopted _ it was simply economically restrictive. Nothing to do with implementation, they simply not selling 600 dollars phones. Wireless charging has cost pennies for years.

Android pay was around long before apple pay fyi.

nobody needs a stylus
nobody needs NFC

Still waiting for a cave in

nobody needs a touch screen computer.
nobody needs a tablet with a real OS.

maybe in 3 years.

These are great ways to incorporate two things you can use into a single device, but the lay-flat charging position makes it almost impossible to look at or use your device while charging. Maybe for a bedside table lamp it is ok just to have your device laying flat, but I’d prefer to have an angled stand / inductive charger be added to a lamp or other decorative item.

Lol I love how all of a sudden wireless charging is a thing...

Anyhow, gen 1 Qi (this) is really, really slow FYI.

Maybe gen 2 wireless fast charging will come sometime next year. It’s great.

Just setting expectations.

I don't know if Apple would use "Apple Juice", but like Microsoft's Surface keyboard, I'm sure they're pissed that someone beat them to it

Clever. Those are some ugly lamps tho.

Really? I think the work lamp is beautiful.

IMO we still don't NEED wireless charging. It's just a luxury spec.

It is like Air Conditioning or running water. Not an absolute need, but sure nice to have.

I have wireless chargers sprinkled throughout my house and my office. It is great to be able to drop your phone on the pad next to you bed, desk, etc and pick it up fully charged. I never carry a charger with me unless I am on travel.

This is for those who underestimate Apple's marketing pull.

Qi charging has existed for years (it's built into my Note5!) but now that Apple puts a phone out with it built in, then people take notice.

Amazing.

This is for the Apple fans...

Cars had wireless charging built in since last year, the market for wireless charges is big and has been for several years, people have been ‘taking notice’ of wireless charging for several years now..

Apple hasn’t changed a thing, I’m 100% confident Ikea hasn’t invented, developed, produced and done all the advertising campaign for a range of wireless charging furniture in less then a week, and I’m fully confident ONLY and I mean ONLY the ad campaign was made hoping Apple would go wireless, and I bet they had a second ad campaign produced and ready if Apple didn’t go wireless.

This one isn't so bad...the one with the weird fluted shade is though.

Hmm Christmas pressy idea.. and knowing Ikea they’ll be cheap?
[doublepost=1506106066][/doublepost]Yeap, £49 which isn’t too bad, the design has won some awards too :)

They also sell this, I doubt it works with the S3 Watch or the AirPods but I hope someone tests it

ACNE? Quite a name for a company, guess they wanted to pick something that really pops!
The company is now quite famous Swedish ad agency. And the name reflects their somewhat hipster attitude. They become famous in the ad and fashion world for two things. First they mocked the very expensive Balenciaga blue bag, as it looked eerily similar to the Ikea blue carry bag. Second they ended up creating a fashion arm sort of by "mistake". They gave away free clothes in a limited run, but those were so popular that in the end they spinned off their own fashion company.

Anyway, I have seen commercials for Ikea Qi furniture and accessories for several years, so it is nothing that suddenly have catched on, but of course Apple have been often considered a trendsetter in new technology. That they are now posted in an apple rumor website, should not be surprise, and neither is the tongue in cheek ad slogans referring Apple as it is a feature Apple is implementing this year. Apple may also have approved the ad message, as they seem to be referred as one of the recommended chargers.
