iWork won't start

I bought both iWork and iLife. iLife works fine. Both iWork apps won't start up. I double-click and they immediately crash, even just after a restart. Does anyone know what to do, except complain to Apple?

Do I need to deleted iLife 04 before installing?

Hi!

this probably sounds silly, but do i need to remove iLife 04 before installing iLife 05?

if I don't remove 04, will i be stuck with 2 versions on my system?

Does anyone know or have speculation about whether Pages will have other language localizations?

I just got iLife and iWork via FedEx. Pages DOES have language localizations. Cool!

I'm very impressed with everything so far, but I need to test drive things more before making any definite judgments.

Good question. You don't need to uninstall them, or at least I didn't. I installed both iLife and iWork, and here's what happened for me.

For iLife, the new versions replaced the old versions with everything except iMovie. I suppose this is because iMovie is now called iMovie HD. So I have both the old iMovie and the new one, but only one version of the other iLife apps.

For iWork, it left the old Keynote where it was. iWork apps are installed in a separate folder within the Applications folder called "iWork," so it apparently didn't touch the original Keynote app. So I have the old Keynote in the Applications folder and the new Keynote within the iWork folder.

So I have two copies of iMovie, two copies of Keynote, and one copy of the rest. Don't know why they set it up this way (other programs do the same thing when they're updated I've noticed: some programs will delete the old version, others not.).

Does anyone know why one would want to keep the old iMovie and/or Keynote (except in case of bugs that may pop up in the new ones? :) )

iPhoto 5 crashing when starting up

Hey everybody, I don't think I've ever posted but I know i have been reading MacRumors for ever. Anyway, i just got iLife '05 in the mail and installed it right away, however the whole reason I bought the program was for iPhoto, and of course it appears to be the only one not working. After taking forever to load all my pictures(10K+),it seems to drag and then finally give me a message saying that I do not have permission to these pictures. It shows them up but doesn't allow me to click on anything and then boom it just closes. I have a 1.25Ghz 15"PB, with 512mb ram, any ideas what I can do??

did you rebuild permissions? that's standard after an install.

(applications>utilities>disk utility>(select your HD)>rebuild permissions

good luck!

Yep just tried that, no dice

I just repaired permissions on the hard drive and the disk. I wrote down the message this time not sure if it'll help you help me......"The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it."

try this

Go to iPhoto library, select it, do a get-info, go to ownership & peermissions, and see if you can change the ownerships there. Try clicking on the lock to see if it will unlock. you may need to be logged in as an admin, not sure.

Installed all and working great

Installed both new sets of software. Loving life! New IPHOTO is a lot of " its about time". Thankfully it takes RAW files, for a quick on the spot adjustment, although still go adobe for the final tweaks. new slide show options helpful. editing a book on IPHOTO and it ,so far, adds a bit more interest.But... what happened to a good simple panoramic stitching utility?
like the movie storage. I used to have to open the disk save the movie and then import. Whew. Much easier.

I have 20,000 images, all high-res, and no, no problems.

It's about an 80 gig library.

The new editing tools are awesome, it's also fast, and the controls are very nice.

Very Happy...won't be switching in and out of Photoshop as much.

Well that is good news :)

Only 1 more week until its available DownUnder

Can Keynote 2 be installed on more than 1 computer or does the serial/registration limit it to only one machine?

Is there anywhere with a in-depth review? I am thinking of cancelling iWorks as pages has some big problems and missing features

It is, after all, version 1. I used Pages a bit, but got frustrating trying to do anything decent.

I was at an Apple Store and they had Pages installed. I played with it for a while. Easy to do HTML pages for the .Mac Home Page. Nice too. I needed help from one of the guys there. Great people. Very helpful.

btw,I couldn't get my boarding passes from US Air to print on Safari nor could I cancel a reservation on Hertz. Asked at the store, and they just shook their head and said that some sites are Internet Explorer only builds. Shame!!! In this day and age. Wonder if Tiger will have some work around???

I did like Pages though.

It'd be nice to have it all working... though I'd be happy if I could have a bookmark in Safari for my banking site, that opened explorer automatically just for that site.

can anyone who's got iLife yet have a look and report back if they've fixed the bug in iMovie where sometimes when you add a ken burns effect to a photo, it doesn't zoom or pan for most of its durarion, then speeds through the motion in the last second or so?

there is a workaround - reverse > update > advanced > reverse clip direction, but it would be good if that was sorted.

cheers,
Iain

just got back from one of our Apple stores this morning. Snagged iWork, gonna wait a little bit for iLife...havent installed yet, but I guess I too will share my feelings after spending some time with it

It can only be installed legally on one machine. The Apple Store doesn't mention the family pack. I think that it's a good deal. It would be worth it to give them a call.

Someone posted a brief review of iWork that said the box contained 2 serial numbers. Sort of implies that Apple will let you install it on 2 machines. The lack of family pack is strange. They are offering one for iLife.

iMovie is very frustrating to use. I can never extended a clip after I have applied a transition. It seems so cumbersome, even if it were meant to be easy to use. I hate iMovie, as for coming from FCP, this program allows me to do almost anything I could think of.

Only iTunes, iDVD and iPhoto in the iLife suite are worth anything. They really need to overhaul iMovie.

It's the same serial number. Just an extra sticker. You can only legally install it on one machine.
