Apple offers an iLife family Pack which is good for 5 installations. It looks like you will have to buy individual iWork licenses, though.

Thank you briansanderson for your decision to purchase the family pack. It's very wise, always best to be legal.

It's not fair! Mine still says shipping on or before the 28th! Then 3-5 business days for delivery. The wonders of Apple UK. Ah well, roughly a week to go fingers crossed...

I see a lot of PO'd people who ordered this and have no DVD drive to install.

At least one person knows how I felt last year when GarageBand came out (not to mention KOTOR this fall)... an upgrade to a PB 12" got me on board for the ol' DVD revolution...

DVD and CD media is in the box

Does any one know when or how long it usually takes untill apple starts shipping their computers with the new i life? or if they are already shipping with it, why does the web page still say shipping with i life 04?

Anyone know if iWork will be available in the Apple Retail Stores tomorrow?

I'd love to pick up a copy after class tomorrow, to type a couple of papers with over the weekend. :)

Help Me understand why crucial has cheaper ram

James Craner said:
I believe for most users 512MB would be enough. You will only see a marginal difference going from 512MB to 1GB, unless you are planning a lot of big multi layer photoshop files. You can buy 3rd Party Ram from say crucial.com for example, it is a lot cheaper than Apple if you really feel you need the 1GB.

When I have ordered ram upgrades through the Apple Store it cost $75 to get 512mb in my daughters iMacG5. While ordering 512mb ram from Crucial is $82. Also, I don't think that includes shipping from crucial as well. Another point is that although it's easy to do I don't have to install the ram myself.

Yes

But this is for the gig of ram where apple takes $425 and crucial takes a bit over $200 :D

This has nothing to with Apple UK in particular, the worldwide release of iLife 05 and iWork is Jan 29!

1 gig upgrade

Point well taken. I didn't quite understand your price point. Regarding 1gig upgrade your definately correct. At some point I might ram upgrade all of my household macs (3) but at this time 512mb for our household of active users of iLife, Office X 2004 and iWorks all my macs are more then speedy enough. I am assuiming iWorks (Pages) will skip along just fine.

Just got mine

My copy of iLife just arrived. I've installed it but haven't had a chance to play with it much yet. iMovie looks cool!

Yes, they are due to have them on hand at local Apple Stores on Saturday the 22nd. Many of the stores will be opening one hour early in commemoration of the release of iLife and iWork.

I can't seem to get iMovie HD to recognize .m2t files I've downloaded from the web. Help?

Has anyone had any problems upgrading iLife 04 to iLife 05...I have 12 gig of photos and dont want to loose them when I get my copy next weekend...

No problems, but you should backup first before upgrading. Apple probably put this is as a high priority where upgrading don't destroy your library, but you never know. Backup always.

I should have my copy in a few hours and will let you know if I have problems.

Regardless, if you have 12GB of photos that you don't want to lose you should be backing them up to another HD. I've learned my lesson the hard way. Now I back up everything twice per month.

Yaaaaaa... :D Just received it from Fedex Express today! Can't wait to play with it. Though I am pissed that my Production Suite which shipped out last Friday, Jan 14, has yet to arrive via Fedex Ground. :(

Still something for me to twiddle with in the mean time.

I received iLife '05 a few hours ago and so far I'm pretty impressed. iPhoto is noticeably faster in every respect. I don't care for the new slide show setup though, it's rather confusing to me. The new editing tools are fantastic.

iDVD is a little snappier, but the best part is the progress indicator. It shows you what's going on in stages and what frame it's rendering in a little preview window. Much much better than the old setup.

Haven't played with iMovie or GarageBand yet, but so far I'm very pleased with the software. Well worth the cash IMO.

I have 20,000 images, all high-res, and no, no problems.

It's about an 80 gig library.

The new editing tools are awesome, it's also fast, and the controls are very nice.

Very Happy...won't be switching in and out of Photoshop as much.

iLife & iWork '05 at Compusa

I was in at CompUSA today. They have their copies in-house but can't sell until tomorrow.

I recieved both iLife and iWork '05 today via fedex. Just installed.

Initial main interest is to learn iWork (Pages) so I can get my daughter up and running and ready for College in the fall.

I have been a dedicated Appleworks user for many years so I know it like a glove. Things seem intuitive without reading the manual so far. It's seems very fast on my daughters iMacG5 1.6 machine.

Only glitch on my end (not the software I'm sure) is working with graphics. My cofmort zone with appleworks has me condition to adding graphics with free form movement. Currently, in Pages the graphics are attached to a sentence/line the word processor. I haven't figured that one out yet. Currently, when I create a box in Pages text wraps around the object. I want to be able to add graphics move it around the page without it defualting to a line. Anyone beyond my limited Pages skills can offer some direction with this feel free to share and post the solution.

So far I really like the software. It imported all of my appleworks files as well as my MS Word files without a glitch.

Side Note on Keynote. I opened the program to load my Powerpoint and Keynote files. The loaded in perfectly.

Back to Pages (word processor). The templates are going to be a great benefit in my opinion... Very impressive.

Regarding iLife 04- intergration works just fine on my end. Now all I need is a Apple specific spreadsheet and I'll be set for this household.

Just my initial impressions.
