I find it absolutely amazing how many people seem to think the new app will be Facetime! SO SO WRONG!

I have no idea obviously what will come but as I said earlier in this thread it surely must be an image editor?

One of the great things about the Mac is that it comes with iLife. You buy your computer and it already has great easy to use, integrated software for your music photos movies etc etc. The one thing always missing has been an image editor. I'm not talking full blown Photoshop but some PS Elements or Pixelmator style app would be great.

I already have Photoshop and pixelmator so I don't care myself but this really seems like the right step.

Why shouldn't you be able to make iPhone apps? This'll be great if true.

This is where I disagree. The way the app store is set up now is what is keeping it from being a total disaster. Think about it. Needing to learn programming is what is keeping the store from being nothing but shovelware junk.

If Apple makes it so any 12 year old with a Mac can design apps, the store will be filled with nothing but garbage and App designers that actually took time to learn how to design and program apps won't have a chance.

It will be used as a get rich quick thing with them. If they want to turn a profit from the app store, they should have to work for it.

"August 7th, 2010, however, strangely falls on a Saturday. "

I think September 7 (a Tuesday) is more likely - also closer to their normal iPod refresh cycle. If it is a major upgrade they will have a special event for it.

August 7th is my birthday :D iLife '11 would make a sweet birthday present (if there are significant improvements in the apps I use).

I only use Garageband, iMovie, & iPhoto. Used to use iWeb until I switched to RapidWeaver (haven't looked back ever since). I don't think I'd upgrade unless Garageband saw significant changes, as I rarely use iPhoto & iMovie. The mystery application has caught my attention though. New apps are always fun :D

Gee, I guess Aperture is not needed since there already is Lightroom. Nor is Apple needed since Microsoft already exists! That's your logic; silly huh?

Aesthetically and functionally. Better usability, customizable editing tools, I dunno, stuff like that. Just look at Aperture; it makes a good replacement for Lightroom in many ways.
Apple still can't be bothered to include my camera in their RAW list, so no, Aperture is not needed. (the camera format has been around longer than Aperture) LR is superior just based on that. And if you think LR is not user-friendly, you obviously haven't even looked at a screenshot.

For me, the killer app would be financial! I would love for an apple authored financial software to complete the iLife package. None of the financial apps out there now quite fit the bill for me.
+1

Mystery App?

Clearly iRip.

Rip your whole DVD collection and let it transform into a heavily DRM'ed and watermarked iOS compatible file. Then just sync your iOS device or Apple TV and enjoy.

This clearly would be a logical step in the consumer direction. You can rip CDs without any hassle. But why not offer something like Handbrake with heavily iPad/iPhone optimized codecs?

Sorry if this has been posted before :p

Learning to code in Cocoa doesn't stop shovelware / crap applications. There's already plenty of that on the appstore already.

Maybe Apple could port Applescript to iPhone and create such an application that the OP talks about?

Not the new version. ;)

This would sound like a filler application?

Hope it's an "iPaint" ... Apple is going after Adobe these days so this really makes sense.

Doubt it's a iApp maker as Apple's Stated policy is they want LESS iPhone apps, not more. They already reject apps of "limited utility" on a regular basis so I don't see what they'd get out of making an easy iPhone app maker that flods the App Store with Apps of limited utility.

Besides, this already exists ... check out the appOmator software ... pretty cool, like a DVD Studio Pro for the iPhone:

I never really understood why there wasn't a WYSIWYG iPhone app creator. It would save me months of having to learn Objective C.

I think an graphics editor is more likely.

Apple dont need thousands and thousands more apps clogging up the App store. I can't believe more people dont know about appOmator

You can build your own iPhone apps by dragging and dropping graphics and video into the interface. Very cool.

You are exactly right on the iPhone app point. There was another company offering to turn any RSS feed into a native iPhone app. Apple non-directly responded that they want native apps to be real differentiators of the iOS platform. In other words, if it is a simple app that can (and should) be done in Safari, then do it as a web app.

My vote/hope is for a re-imagined iDVD that creates iTunes LP and iTunes Extras compatible content. Just as Apple has shown the world doesn't really *need* flash, they will show that we don't really need BluRay.

My dream is for an iLife level visual/special effects software for movies. Something like fxhome.com has.

For the love of your God(s): 64-bit iTunes please. Yes, I know it's not an iLife package, but my 220GB/31,000+ library is chugging man.

Nice ideas! iTunes LP content creator would be ace... but maybe this would have a limited audience?

Love the idea of visual fx. something to really take advantage of core animation and core graphics. An simplified Photoshop style Image editor (in the mold of Pixelmator) could be better and faster than photoshop because its 64-bit and makes use of core graphics.

about the iApp thing. AppOmator are cool because you can make content iPhone apps in the style of DVDStudio Pro. Linking menus, tables, videos. They take the submitted design and content and assemble it in XCode for you. I haven't submitted mine yet, but downloaded the free AppOmator application and so far so good!

With all of Apple's fuss about flash on iOS, I hope they use iLife to show off the true power of HTML5. So:
iWeb with integration of most of their tech demos.
MobileMe gallery updated with full HTML5 including better photo and video effects. Background audio? Should also include 720p video (minimum) and a storage boost.

And what if DVD and iTunes Extras building and export was built into iMovie as other have suggested, but iTunes Extras can be optionally sent to your mobileme gallery as an HTML5 webpage? That would be completely unique in comparison to any other video sharing website.

Social Networks

Lets hope iphoto will allow uploading photos to facebook fan pages :)

I am all for the social networking era, it will bring so much more opportunities. From my point of view as a business man, quality viral marketing is unbeatable. Just my opinion :)

I am glad idvd is gone, honestly i rarely got it work properly, theres always some sort of issue, like the audio doesn't sync correctly with the video.. And also had it crashing randomly for no reason, I tested it on my old macbook, 20" imac, and even my latest 21.5" It rarely ever works for me..

Looking forward to the mystery app, maybe its going to replace idvd?

Also hoping for update with iweb, its honestly useless crap :p, at least for web designers like me..

Mystery Application

First time ever posting after reading MacRumors, but I believe that the mystery application could be something for creating iPhone/iPad/iPod Applications as iWeb is to creating websites. Just an idea.

Well I for one am nervous about dumping iDVD. I use it alot with FCE. Incorporating it it into iMovie sounds like a really bad idea. iMovie can't be used for anything of any complexity so I use FCE, a much better program. DVD authoring would surely be dumbed down further if added to iMovie. I don't want to have to buy the pro DVD authoring software either. There needs to be a simi-pro version. Sure Toast can create simple DVD menus but nothing like iDVD can. iDVD has its problems but it can make very professional menus with some custom tweeking and you can't beat the price. Having it as a download only like iMovie 6 just means it will be incompatible within a few OS upgrades.. Today you still have more creative control in the old iMovie than the current version. Really sad. One step forward, two steps back...

I just thought what I’d like to see in the iLife creative suite…

…something to allow the user to design and publish (and not just through the approved iChannels) e-zines, e-books, e-tc.
