Mac4ever claims (via Macworld.co.uk) that Apple will finally update its popular iLife suite on August 7th, 2010. The new version will be dubbed iLife '11 and is said to include a number of new features:While there had been some claims circulating last week about iLife '10, the iLife '11 name would be more consistent with Apple's past behavior. Apple introduced iLife '08 in August, 2007. The last major revision to iLife was iLife '09 which was announced at Macworld SF 2009.

At least we know when the new iMacs are arriving. Finally!
In August with the new iLife suite.

Someone probably said it, but only read to page 1!
Maybe a Video organizer type,
Remove iDVD, replace with something that manages your new iPhone Videos and stuff, but that can also burn them....?

Finally videos away from iTunes, maybe?

It´s an fast, slim and easy photoshop clone!

It´s an fast, slim and easy photoshop clone!

SJ already pissed Adobe off - hard as possible!

Why care anymore? A slim, fast, modern, easy to use full featured photoshop clone, that apple had all this years nearly ready, but never released to avoid trouble with Adobe - will no have his primetime - the final death blow!

And nobody will care about that. Cause Adobe robbed his users every year with its overpriced bugfix-updates.

:apple:

bye bye Adobe

What about something like iConnect or iFriends. You know, with all that life spent in the social networks, they surely want to present a new and innovative way of connecting to all those fancy sites. One app to rule them all. You see, the browser is nice, but we all loose control over all our friend which are on our over nine thousand social network sites.

I could see something like that. Although, as you may predict, I couldn't care less.

Presumably movies will play in iPhoto rather than just appear as motionless thumbnails. Why have we not seen more core animation effects in iPhoto yet, like timelines with photos flying around, etc? As long as browsing and editing continue to get quicker too.

For me the whole iLife media thing has become unweildy and it gets even worse if you opperate more than one iPhoto library. PDFs in iTunes? Movies in iTunes, or are they in my media browser or in iPhoto? I'd love to see a radical rethink so that all apps could become more effecient and effective.

The media browser isn't powerful enough or system integrated enough. It should have a selection of recently gathered media that isn't yet part of any library, like stuff I've dragged onto the desktop or recently saved from another app.

iWork 11

I love iWork - once you are familiar with one app, they are all very intuitive (and all the third party software that follows a similar theme - although it does make occasional use of Microsoft or Adobe apps much harder).

I would love Numbers to gain more of the features of Excel.

I would love Keynote to become more friendly with Interactive Whiteboards. The bundled software supplied with these things is shamefully bad - if Apple did an iWork app that ran with all hardware (like Easiteach) it could push hardware sales. I also hope Keynote will continue to become better at animating objects - more capable tweening perhaps.

I do some quite complex layout on Pages but I wish there was an easier way to select objects that are overlapping or layered. This got harder in the latest version as selection boudaries became less precise.

I read this elsewhere, that make sense:

you know iTunes Extra for the movie? DVD menu without the DVD for home movie.

That's what I think is the new mystery iLife App.

exportable to iPad, iPhone and Apple TV.

And Support of the full HD for our personnal HD movie made from iMovie.

Some thoughts about iMovie

DVD authoring should have included to iMovie long ago. Since iM08 movies need to be encoded twice. It takes extra time and also affects quality (for PAL videos the default 'share to iDVD' produces quite bad results). I wouldn't mind losing current iDVD themes and functionality for few simple new themes and direct encoding.

Native AVCHD editing could be implemented for systems that are capable for hardware h264 decoding.

Also would be nice if they finally improved the quality of DV format processing. Even very basic de-interlacing would be better than single-field processing that is used in iM08-09. But I don't believe this will happen any more.

Well my ideas are:
iMovie-new templates and itunes extra/lp creation, idvd features added in
iWeb-maybe new templates and stuff, html5 content creator and the ability to add iAds to your site
Mystery App-1. App store for mac
2. simple app creator

Facetime should be included with ichat and it should also gain native support for
yahoo chat and msn (without third party)

i just bought a new mac very recently, you think they'll give me a discount when upgrading?

New mystery app.

I think that the new mystery app will by a way to create iPhone apps for everyone. Like what Google is doing, but better.
Think about it. You can make all sorts of things with iLife
Basic photo edits
great quality dvds
average websites
minor music editing

Why shouldn't you be able to make iPhone apps? This'll be great if true.

PHENOMENON! Finally...

Maybe they'll rename it iComp.

Seriously tho, I have longsince thought they would make a Photoshop-style app for the iLife suite. Whatever it is, it would be a lot more welcome if it was an apple take on an existing app, rather than a desktop client for mobile apps a la Facetime, iPhone/iPad emulator or an iDevelop.

Surely, every now and then, apple has to throw us these bones to delude us that they still care about their brand as a computer company. Even if the pro apps are on the wane, a decent consumer-level photo editor or something would be pretty nifty and might recapture the cult status of Mac Paint.

More like Elements than Photoshop.
