I hope they dont put more plastic on it, that would cheapen it in my opinion. I like my metal backing and mine has no dents or scratches at all. I also hope my nice Vaja case still works with the new dimensions.

Speaking of Vaja cases their website has a link for 3g iphone case which goes to a form to fill out if you want to be emailed when it is released. No pictures though unfortunately (not that that would give away much).

I really want one now! Can't wait any further!:eek:

iPhone already have 3 sensors: proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer.

yes, but the accelerometer can be covered by the case (it isnt along the edge of the screen, it is inside the unit). This would be a new sensor that needs to be able to "see" outside the phone.

Plastic backed iphone

I think it is possible that the iphone could see a slight re-design (like the tapered edges) but at a point when apple is trying to convince people to recycle and become more environmentally friendly would they really swap recyclable aluminium for plastic?

Well, if the third sensor is a camera, as some have anticipated, then it might be something worth holding out for.

Well, I admit that would be somewhat cool. BUT, with 3G, GPS, etc...wouldn't that be the least of the improvements? Have people just been holding out in getting an iphone for ichat? I mean, are you really going to ichat with people on your phone? Plus, how is going to work if you have a mediocre signal (too slow?) and are away from wifi? Who are you going to ichat with (90+% of people don't have the hardware).

I'll believe new features like a second camera when I see it. GPS, 3G and 32GB storage would come higher on my wish list.

I'd hate to see the aluminum back go--I know how durable and scratch-resistant that has been on my years-old PowerBook, which still looks brand new. No plastic keeps looking new that way.

But if I had to have a plastic iPhone, the option to chose red would console me :)

2-way video isn't something I NEED, but it WOULD be cool and fun and even useful. What do I do now with the 90+% of people I know who don't have webcams? I don't video conference with them. But I do with the other 10%. I'd happily use iPhone video chat with the few who could handle it. And yes, I'd do it when I had a good signal, not when I don't. Very often I'd be doing it from my home WiFi in fact--like a handheld iSight that doesn't tie me to my desk.

And most often, I would imagine I'd be video chatting with someone on a computer--not someone on a phone.

The ability to simply capture video with the existing cam--forget transmitting it--would be even more welcome though.

Point taken and I definitely agree with video capture. Which also means that 32gB will be important. :)

Don't buy this one, these look pretty crappy for case mock-ups for sensors...Is this the same format that was given for the current iPhone? How can a case be designed on three little squares and expect to line up the front camera if that is what it is. Also, the tappered edge is uneven, Apple would never have out of form product lines.

On a second note, I do like the tappered edges like the MacBook Air.

Why do some people seem to think that a second camera on the iPhone for video chat is such a 'futuristic' (for want of a better word) idea?

This is VERY common in the UK, MOST 3g phones have had video call ability for AT LEAST 2 years cause my old Sony phone did it back in the ancient times of 2006!!! I would say 50% of my friends have phones with this feature.

If the 3g iPhone does not have video call ability, this would be a major loss in my opinion, in the UK at least! I personally think this is THE MOST desirable feature of a 3g phone.

Seriously, I don't care what it looks like, as long as it has 3G. I know Apple won't let us down with crappy phone. I'm off to Seoul, South Korea in August, and need a phone. This is the answer. It's just a matter of time... I have the money waiting.

I kind of find this hard to believe. My company just took a meeting with some dude from incase, who was saying how they day new products come out is the day that they get the specs for new cases...

why isnt the taper the same on the bottom view? i dont buy this one.

Yeah, I have been noticing that as well. Kind of odd. I think they are showing the top side taper. Perhaps the taper doesn't show from the bottom front view. Also the taper looks a bit crooked.

I just post 'em as I sees 'em. :)

which means???

Plastic

Black or white instead of metal? Meh. If they do that, it had better at least reduce the weight.

The plastic will replace metal to allow for better reception and transmission,
especially since GPS will now be involved.

...I would like GPS, 3G, radio (AM, FM, XM & internet) as well as a second camera (both still & video) on the front for video chats & self pictures...

Would you also like it to give you a backrub and the answer to all of life's unanswered questions?
{Mind you-I think the new iPhone will have GPS and 3G-but radio and satellite radio?! That's funny!}

i personally don't like that the "perforated bottom speaker and microphone grilles have been transformed into larger shapes alongside the Dock Connector" they don't look very Apple-ish.

It may be that the upcoming iPhone will be what Apple really wanted it to be all along, but that to meet their self-imposed schedule last year they had to make some compromises. Of course, even this time they may be omitting features they want, and we'll get those the next time!
