Steve Jobs said that the iPad had the best browsing experience, but this is not true

Steve Jobs said a lot of things, and I'll bet most of it was true at the time.

When the Cat's away, the mice come out to play.
When the Cat is gone for good, all kind of things can happen:

I don't think this will be fixed through iOS 7. The major complaints usually aren't - ones that aren't fixed after a couple updates. I think it's this version's limitations similar to the iPad 1/3.

Unfortunately it's just how it is. It might get better but I don't think so.

The Air is a very nice device, too bad Apple can't make a screen near the 3/4 (even those had tinting issues, but it wasn't hard to get one without one) and severely limited in RAM.

becuz there is always apple fanboi around to defend apple using 1gb

i used to be an apple fanboy. but since android kitkat with art (android runtime ) enabled. i love it more than ios. you can't do simple things in ios like downloading files, downloading torrent, share pics from gallery to every other apps installed.

These are best of breed devices. If you're not happy with iPad, then believe me you won't be happy with any other tablet out there. All alternatives to iPad are inferior to the iOS experience in every single way.

different folks different strokes. the new nexus 7 is awesome and cheap.

The tabs reloading happens most of the time and it seems that at least once a day while scrolling down a web page Safari closes by itself and I'm back at the home screen. I've also had Chrome do the same thing. I've had the App Store do this too. I'll be searching and there I am, back at the home screen. I really hope this is a software issue that can be solved in a reasonable amount of time.

No, cause I think this is a software issue

Samsung? No way.
Android? NO WAY

I have the same issue with my Mini. Can only use one tab, or risk a reload and lose the data you had.

I also have a Nexus 7, and have no issues like this. 2gb of RAM make reloading tabs a thing only iOS has now. It is frustrating. Almost as frustrating as having to swipe down 50 times just to get to the bottom of this thread on iOS devices.

But you can do these thing before KitKat... The ART run time is awesome though

Oh please. Try removing your fanboy glasses.

Ive been playing with the nexus 7 and samsung 10.1 note 2014 edition all day today and it doesnt have any of these refreshes or random crashes. Both are super smooth and the note has the S pen.

You can do true multitasking on the note.

apple is too cheapskate to put 2GB ram on the iPad. anyone who disagrees with me please just tell me that you would prefer 1GB ram on the ipad instead of 2.

and im not telling you guys to buy android, because i know you guys don't like android. but for comparison. my note 3, i browsed newyorker.com maybe 2-3 days ago. and until now i never used the browser again. just now i opened the browser and boom! newyorker.com is still here.

i dont know why apple is so god damn cheapskate with ram. jesus!

Apple will announce a new updated rmini in Spring of 2014 with 2Gb Ram and updated more uniform screens with 100% gamut. Book it.

After the ipad 4 fiasco, i dont trust apple for a single word they say.

I really doubt that will happen. iPad 4 was a one time thing to adjust the release cycle of iPads from Spring to Fall. Now that a Fall release cycle for iOS devices has been established, I expect Apple to stick with it for a while.

We'll see who's right come Spring!

+1... I think it will be a "silent" hardware upgrade similar to the updated A5 chip with 32 nm process was with the iPad2.

Apple is just getting rid of its old 1 GB RAM stock, selling to the unsophisticated masses who don't know that every premium tablet on the market has 2 GB or more.

Dont be so gullable. After what happened with ipad 4, it pissed off a lot of ipad3 owners.

Thhats why i got the nexus 7 and note 10.1 to try out. Nexus 7 has 2gb ram and the note has 3! The note is only $20 less than the air but it smokes the air in specs....not even close. Then you factor in the S pen, then the true multitasking, and the split screens......honestly this is how a tablet with a big screen should run cause it takes full advantage of the screen real estate. Going back to ios7 today was rough....its just so lacking for the better word. The biggest multitasking feature there is on ipad is the 4 finger swipe, and thats been out on OSX for how many years now?

Yeah, no, you did not open 18 tabs that did not reload as you moved between them. Either you don't understand the issue, or you are trying your hand at fanboy fiction.

If it's the former, try it again, doing what I said above...navigate between 18 tabs, scroll around on each page, then tap the next tab, and repeat. You will not be able to do it without reloads. Period.

And if it's the latter, let's see a video to accompany your fantasy.

For those playing at home, there will be no video.

You are obviously holding it wrong.

We'll I probably don't know what the issue is so sorry if I got it wrong but I did open 18 tabs just now, scrolled between them scroll on each tab and open links etc but no crashes. Oh well maybe I shouldn't push my luck :)
What the hell is fanboy?

It looks like you got your communications crossed somewhere. You are talking about crashes, mcdj is talking about reloading.

I've actually had 20+ tabs open without crashing, but they sure do reload!

Yes, I know many iPad 3 owners were pissed off, but what is the point? Apple didn't release the iPad 4 early just to piss off iPad 3 owners, they had a specific reason for doing that. I'm just not seeing another compelling reason for them to do it again.

A silent update to fix the gamut, maybe. But to add more RAM? I really doubt it.

Going back to ios7 today was rough....its just so lacking for the better word. The biggest multitasking feature there is on ipad is the 4 finger swipe, and thats been out on OSX for how many years now?

So does this mean you are considering ditching the iPad altogether?

Please don't be afraid to move your talk about Android devices to the following location: Alternatives to iOS and iOS Devices . It might be better appreciated at that location.

Try to load some website with pictures and video all together, like he verge, cnn, then you will know what people talking about. I can open 20 MacRumors pages without crash or reloading, but I will have lots of reloading when I open sites I regularly visiting...

Can people stop saying that the problem lies with software or hardware please. Its both.

Would 2gb have helped? Definitely, but then what? For that to work apple would have had to of stopped selling the iPad mini and iPad 2, which right now they didn't want to do. Next year when/if they get 'rid' of these devices then they can start up-ing the RAM to 2gb on new devices. I expect this is part of the reason why the iPad mini got similar specs to the Air so that come next year it can be the 'low-end' device and Apple can drop the original mini. Regardless of the whole 'Apple want this so you buy the new devices' theory, a) they are still selling the old ones, why don't they just stop selling them? And b) 300% difference in RAM between the 'high-end' and 'low-end' devices is just not right....

iOS 7 is also to blame, it hogs up too much of the memory (80-85% at boot up with nothing else loaded). I'd love to see comparisons of this to not only other iOS versions but also iOS 7 on different devices with 512mb RAM and 32-bit OS.

The iPad mini 1 with 512MB RAM started reload pages around 5 tabs...

image_zps4ae13025.jpg

The iPad 3 just crashed around 10 tabs. Then relaunched the app, everything has to reload. It is due to the low memory condition.

image_zpsb2862ef9.jpg

image_zps518351b0.jpg

The iPad mini retina version starts reloading pages after 7 tabs. Because the speed of iPad retina, some tabs refreshed before I can even take a screenshot... But you see 3 of 7 tabs were reloading.

So you see, the worst one is with 512MB of RAM and then 64bit with 1GB of RAM. Anyone stating extra RAM won't help should go slapping themselves

I had a problem with my Note 2, I made a thread in a forum and Samsung contacted the admin, and then me to solve the problem.

But then they failed, and I had to wait 1 MONTH to get a replacement

Every company surfs the web searching for threads like this.
They are watching us, and it's not a conspiracy, it's reality

Apple really don't.... they could honestly not care less about consumers want, because their business concept is to supposedly give consumers what they dont realise they want yet.

Apple will never contact you off the back of a macrumors thread, I'd put money on it.

You realize this depends on what content is in the tabs you are loading, right? Because I can open 15 MacRumors tabs and not a single reload....

I guess I better start slapping myself. Without running a deep diagnostic you can only theorize what's causing the underlining issue. The Verge used to constantly lock up my desktop PC and it has 12 GB of ram.

Why don't you try actually browsing around in them instead of just testing to see how many tabs you can load? I can load much more that way too.

If by 'content' you mean actually using the damn thing, then I guess I'm using it to an extreme so much so that browsing around in 3 tabs is too unreasonable.

Hey, look! I just loaded 20 sites and I can view them all if I click on them. Doesn't mean anything if you're not actually browsing the sites. We don't buy this thing to look at a still image of a website.

Yeah, it was the plastic, not the colours.
We weren't going to have a $100 nano thing made of anodised/brushed aluminium
with it's own chassis, glass or stainless steel.
They'd have done better making them of bakelite, at least they could say unapologetically authentic.

So what you are arguing is that the statement that the Air can only load 5 tabs is applicable to all situations regardless of what you load? Why are you even arguing such an obvious point? Do you like to argue?

Fine. After 5 tabs, every single iPad Air becomes a useless hunk of junk. Got it.

Thanks for straightening me out. I don't know what I would have done without your insightful contribution...
